Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur didn’t have much to add about where things stand with quarterback Jacoby Brissett at a Monday press conference. Brissett skipped the first two phases of the team’s voluntary work this spring as he looks for an adjustment to his contract and he remained away as they began organized team activities on Monday. LaFleur downplayed the impact of Brissett’s absence earlier this month by noting that the veteran has “played a lot of football” and would be able to pick up what the team is doing. LaFleur did the same on Monday by saying that Brissett has “done probably everything we’ve ever done schematically.” He said everything else is status quo from where it was the last time he discussed Brissett’s absence. “It’s the same as where we were a few weeks ago. . . . We’ve had contact, I’ll leave it at that,” LaFleur said. LaFleur said he would be more concerned with a younger player missing time. Third-round pick Carson Beck would fall into that category, but he is seeing plenty of action along with Gardner Minshew while Brissett is away from the team
The biggest win of the Urban Meyer era in Jacksonville has come five years after the former head coach was unceremoniously ousted from Duval County. On Monday, it was reported first by ON3 that the Jaguars had won a $30 million wrongful termination lawsuit against their former absentee head coach after Meyer sued over Jacksonville allegedly firing him without cause. In reality – a place Meyer hardly visits – the Jaguars did have cause to fire Meyer just 13 games into his tenure with the club. And five-years later, the Jags are no longer on the hook for the remainder of Meyer’s four-year, $36 million deal. Dating back to the awful ‘21 season where Meyer and the Jags went 2-11 in his time as the head man, the coach was mostly known for his viral video where he was seen with a woman who wasn’t his wife at his own restaurant and allegedly kicking then placekicker Josh Lambo , who was a witness in the lawsuit against the former Florida Gators and Ohio State head coach. To have “cause” the Jaguars needed more than just the alleged kicking of Lambo during a stretching period, and used such grievances like Meyer’s accruing of around $300,000 in NFL fines for workout infractions and Meyer skipping a team flight after a loss in Cincinnati , among others. NFL head coach contracts are fully guaranteed as a rule, so it was well within Meyer’s right to sue the team for the rest of his contract. On the same coin however, it was ruled legally the Jags were fully within their right to fire the man at the center of almost every ‘21 NFL scandal for cause. At any rate, the Jaguars now have their third win of the Meyer tenure and get to keep $30 million for whatever they please. Maybe they can pay for new wigs for Trevor Lawrence , a quarterback Meyer once had in an open competition with Gardner Minshew . What a time
Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett missed the early phases of the team's offseason program and nothing changed with Monday's move into the organized team activity phase of their work. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Brissett did not attend the team's first OTA on Monday. The third phase of the offseason program features the most on-field work and the quarterbacking portion will be handled by Gardner Minshew and third-round pick Carson Beck . The OTAs are voluntary and next month's minicamp will be the only mandatory work of the offseason. Brissett will be subject to fines if he does not attend those workouts. Brissett started the final 12 games of the season for the Cardinals in 2025 and is looking for a bump in pay that reflects the possibility that he'll be the starting quarterback again this season. Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur said earlier this month that the team has had good dialogue with Brissett, but didn't share any of the details of how that dialogue might lead to Brissett's appearance on the practice field. Given the increased work for the others in his absence, the current approach could ultimately work against Brissett's bid to land the starting role

Minshew signed a one-year, $5.75 million contract with the Cardinals this offseason, getting $5.14 million guaranteed and (supposedly) a shot at a starting job. Jacoby Brissett is widely viewed as the favorite to start, but the Cardinals haven't actually named anyone, and Brissett is absent from voluntary spring practices due to displeasure with his contract. The third name to watch is rookie third-round pick Carson Beck, who could eventually get playing time if only because the other options are 30-something career backups. Minshew celebrated his 30th birthday in May, following a 2025 campaign for Kansas City in which his lone start was cut short by a knee injury. Now healthy, Minshew still won't offer much scrambling production, but he'll at least have decent weapons at his disposal in Arizona if he ever makes starts. The realistic hope here is short-term QB2 value in two-QB and SuperFlex leagues
As the 2026 NFL season approaches, all starting quarterback positions appear to be filled. Aaron Rodgers is re-signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, potentially earning up to $25 million. The article ranks projected starting quarterbacks league-wide, with discussion on the situations in Arizona (Jacoby Brissett vs. Kyler Murray, Gardner Minshew II, Carson Beck) and the New York Jets (Geno Smith)

Unfortunately, very little went the team’s way last year and, after starting 2-0, they finished 3-14, ending the year on a torturous nine-game losing streak. Yet, what that tawdry record doesn’t indicate is that a whopping games were lost by seven points or less. Had they just gotten the job done, Kyler Murray and head coach Jonathan Gannon may have stuck around. Sadly, that wasn’t in the…ummm…cards. Instead, this year, Mike LaFleur inherits head coaching duties and Jacoby Brissett — who started 14 games in ’25 and went 1-11 — returns. To add insult to injury, the squad has the third-toughest schedule of any team in the NFL. Notable opponents dropping into Glendale, Ariz.’s State Farm Stadium this year include Jared Goff ’s Detroit Lions (Oct. 11), Bo Nix ’s Denver Broncos (Oct. 25), Matthew Stafford ’s Los Angeles Rams (Nov. 15), Jalen Hurts ’ Philadelphia Eagles (Dec. 6) and Brock Purdy ’s San Francisco 49ers on Jan. 9 or 10 in the final game of the regular season. Plus, Sam Darnold ’s defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks will be swinging in too on Sunday, Sept. 20 aka the Cards’ home opener. Thankfully, Brissett and the Cardinals got a bit of insurance in standout rookie running back Jeremiyah Love, as well as draft picks Chase Bisontis, Carson Beck and Kaleb Proctor. Offseason acquisitions Devin Duvernay , Isaac Seumalo , Tyler Allgeier , Kendrick Bourne and quarterback insurance Gardner Minshew join them. Franchise tight end Trey McBride , 2025 star signee Josh Sweat , starting wideout Michael Wilson , elite safety Budda Baker and offensive line anchor Paris Johnson Jr. return, too. The Arizona Cardinals schedule for 2026 is out and even though we know the teams before hand, it is more brutal than expected. A week 14 bye week for a team that has the best odds of the first pick in the 2027 NFL Draft is actually insane. However, the way the schedule plays out, it would be easy to move Carson Beck in as a starter, barring injuries to Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew , for the final four games of the 2026 season. While four games may not be enough to truly evaluate Beck, where on the schedule could the Cardinals conceivably drop him in and it not be in the “tough part of the schedule”? The late bye is what I was concerned about. This is a season where the Cardinals more than ever needed a week 9-11 bye week, so they could get Beck enough starts to make a proper evaluation. However, if you do it after the bye week, that is easily the softest part of the schedule (on paper). Let’s buckle up for what could be a bumpy 2026 ride
We don't know if Fernando Mendoza will be starting at quarterback for the Raiders in Week 1 of the regular season, but we do know who the Raiders will be playing in the first overall pick's potential debut. The NFL's schedule reveal on Thursday night shows that the Raiders will host the Dolphins at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 13. The game will be on Fox. Mendoza will have to get the nod over Kirk Cousins in order to start for the Raiders. Offseason addition Malik Willis is expected to make his first appearance for the Dolphins. Both teams will definitely have head coaches making their offseason debut as Las Vegas hired Klint Kubiak in February and Miami hired Jeff Hafley in January. Sunday will also feature a pair of divisional games in the late afternoon window. The Packers will visit the Vikings while the Commanders will be in Philadelphia to renew their acquaintance with the Eagles. The NFC North matchup will be on CBS while the NFC East clash will be broadcast by Fox. The other late game on Sunday afternoon will see the Cardinals visiting the Chargers on CBS. Arizona could have Jacoby Brissett , Gardner Minshew or rookie Carson Beck at quarterback for that contest. The 1 p.m. ET games will send the Bills to Houston for a date with the Texans while the Browns go on the road against the Jaguars. The Colts will host the Ravens, the Saints will visit the Lions, the Buccaneers will travel to Cincinnati for Dexter Lawrence 's first game as a Bengal, and the Steelers will kick off the Mike McCarthy era — with or without Aaron Rodgers — at home against the Falcons. Previous reports revealed that the Jets will be in Tennessee and that the Bears will head to Charlotte to face the Panthers. The Jets-Titans game will be on CBS along with the Bills-Texans, Ravens-Colts and Browns-Jaguars games. All the other 1 p.m. games will be on Fox. The entire Week 1 slate will kick off on Wednesday, September 9 with a Patriots-Seahawks Super Bowl rematch in Seattle on NBC. Thursday will bring a Netflix game between the 49ers and Rams in the NFL's first game in Melbourne and Sunday night will find the Cowboys at MetLife Stadium to meet the Giants on NBC's Sunday Night Football. Those games were all announced ahead of Thursday's full schedule reveal, which was also the case for the ESPN Monday night game between the Broncos and Chiefs in Kansas City
The NFL schedule reveal for Week 1 features several intriguing matchups, including the Raiders hosting the Dolphins, the Packers visiting the Vikings, and the Cardinals facing the Chargers. Quarterback situations remain uncertain for some teams, with Fernando Mendoza potentially starting for the Raiders and Malik Willis expected to debut for the Dolphins. Other notable games include the Commanders at Eagles, Bills at Texans, Browns at Jaguars, Colts hosting the Ravens, Saints visiting the Lions, Buccaneers at Bengals, Steelers hosting the Falcons, Jets in Tennessee, and Bears at Panthers. The week kicks off with a Patriots-Seahawks Super Bowl rematch
The 2026 NFL schedule release includes several international games and holiday matchups that will impact fantasy football lineups. Notable international games include Rams vs. 49ers in Australia (Week 1), Ravens vs. Cowboys in Brazil (Week 3), and multiple games in London, Paris, Madrid, Munich, and Mexico City across Weeks 4-11. The international games present time zone challenges and require fantasy managers to adjust their lineup setting strategies
Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur addressed Jacoby Brissett's absence from voluntary offseason workouts due to contract desires, stating that dialogue is ongoing and everything is good. While Brissett misses time in a new offense, LaFleur emphasized his experience and ongoing communication. Carson Beck and Gardner Minshew are getting more reps, which could impact Brissett's starting role if his absence continues
