CFL’s first million‑dollar QB, Chad Kelly, expresses NFL interest
Quarterback Chad Kelly said earlier this year that he’d still like to return to the NFL . For now, he’ll continue to play in the CFL. And he’ll be paid more than any player in the Canadian league’s salary-cap era. Via Justin Dunk of 3DownNation.com, Kelly’s new five-year, $5.55 million contract with the Toronto Argonauts makes him the first million-dollar player since the CFL implemented a team-by-team spending limit. Kelly, now 32, was due to become a free agent after the current season. Nathan Rourke was the CFL’s highest-paid player in 2026, at a salary of $684,700. Kelly ranked second, at $625,000. Kelly was the last pick of the 2017 draft. After his NFL career fizzled out, in 2020, he landed in the CFL in 2022 and has flourished there. To date, he has had no opportunities to follow in the footsteps of Warren Moon, Doug Flutie, Jeff Garcia, Joe Theismann, and Joe Kapp as quarterbacks who parlayed CFL success into NFL careers. At some point, why wouldn’t a team in the quarterback-needy NFL give Kelly a look?

Two of the best teams in the first half of the 2026 CFL season will clash in Week 10 when the Edmonton Elks meet the Montreal Alouettes. The Alouettes have won five games in a row and are 7-1 on the season, while the Elks lead the West division at 6-2. That's just one of the four games on the schedule for Week 10, and those looking to make CFL wagers at online betting apps should check out what SportsLine expert Emory Hunt is saying about this week's matchups. Born and raised in New Orleans, Hunt played running back at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and coached high school football before starting Football Gameplan, an in-depth analysis site. Over the past three seasons, Hunt is 132-111-2 on NFL bets. Here's a look at his picks for Week 10. Don't look now, but the red-hot Stampeders are riding into Week 10 on a two-game winning streak, and they are averaging more than 30 points per game overall. Quarterback Vernon Adams hasn't thrown an interception all season and has 21 touchdown passes. The real story over the past couple of weeks has been the emergence of RB/KR Tyreik McAllister . He provides instant offense and is a threat to score on returns. Argos QB Chad Kelly looks to be fine and will play against the Stamps, which explains the point total. What also explains that point total is an Argos defense that has a propensity to give up a big play or two downfield. These teams met about a month ago and the Riders secured a 27-22 victory. A lot has changed since then. The RedBlacks have a new defensive coordinator, but that wasn't the real issue behind the team's winless season. Unfortunately for the RedBlacks, their offensive ineffectiveness inside the red zone has led to their 0-7 start. Now facing one of the best teams in the CFL, it looks to be an uphill challenge for them in this game on the road as well, new defensive coordinator or not. Get $150 in bonus bets when you wager $5+ on Week 10 CFL games with DraftKings: Week 10 brings us a potential Grey Cup matchup between two of the league's hottest teams. What you'll see is two teams that are similar in how they attack defenses and how they defend opposing offenses as well. There will be no shortage of playmakers on the field, led by a potential league MOP in RB Justin Rankin of the Elks. Defensively speaking, that'll be the goal and the mission for the Alouettes defense, as Rankin can be a three-level threat on offense. Montreal's slight advantage in this game comes from QB Davis Alexander's mobility and playmaking ability; look for him to make a few more plays beyond the X's and O's to push the Alouettes ahead. What an impressive showing for rookie QB Kaidon Salter, getting his first win of his CFL career. What impressed me the most in the Lions' victory last week was their dominance on the ground. Both Salter and RB Zander Horvath ran up and down the field against a very good Blue Bombers team. On the other side of the field, the Ticats offense has suffered from inconsistency since losing QB Bo Levi Mitchell. This inconsistency prevents me from trusting the Ticats in this game. However, there is no questioning the team's fight; they don't quit and haven't quit on the season. Expect this game to be closer than the point spread indicates. We'll get an exciting game to close out Week 10. Tail Hunt's Week 10 CFL picks at FanDuel, where new users can get up to $1,000 in bet reset tokens when they wager $5+ for five days:
There are no more undefeated teams in the CFL after the Edmonton Elks lost to the B.C. Lions last week, and now Edmonton will try to bounce back against the winless Ottawa Redblacks in Week 6 of the 2026 CFL season. That game is set for a 9 p.m. ET kickoff Thursday to start Week 6, while the Lions are the lone team off after getting their first victory. League stalwarts Toronto and Winnipeg face off Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET, with Calgary vs. Montreal set for 7 p.m. ET on Saturday and Hamilton vs. Saskatchewan wrapping things up Sunday at 7 p.m. ET. Can Edmonton rebound from its first setback, or will the 0-4 Redblacks duplicate B.C.'s feat and get a victory? SportsLine expert Emory Hunt dives into that game and has Week 6 best bets on every matchup. Born and raised in New Orleans, Hunt played running back at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and coached high school football before starting Football Gameplan, an in-depth analysis site. Over the past three seasons, Hunt is 132-111-2 on NFL bets. Here's a look at his picks for Week 6. Despite not winning their last two games, I have to tip my cap to the Redblacks for how they competed to finish both contests. They've actually covered in both because of their never-give-up attitude. However, at some point, they must find a way to get into the win column. Things won't get any better this weekend as they face a strong Edmonton Elks team. While the Elks have shown they can fight back into games themselves, the fact that they've needed to do so suggests this game will be a lot closer than many expect. We don't know the extent of Zach Collaros' injury and whether we will see the excellent prospect Taylor Elgersma once again under center for the Blue Bombers. What I do know is that defensively the Bombers haven't been able to minimize the big play down field and the Argos, led by the stellar play of QB Chad Kelly, provide nonstop aerial pressure each game. Despite their propensity to give up some big plays, I actually believe the Argos have the matchup advantage in the secondary against the Bombers' receiving corps. Bet on Week 6 CFL games with the latest DraftKings promo code and get $200 in bonus bets: This looks like an early-season potential Grey Cup preview between the Stamps and Alouettes. Both QBs are playing great football, and this matchup should come down to defense and the run game. We've seen the Stamps find consistency in that regard throughout the early part of the season, while the Alouettes have had timely spurts of a run game. Defensively speaking, this one favors the Alouettes, and the fact that the Stamps have to travel East is enough for me to give them the slight edge in this contest. Just an unfortunate injury for Ticats QB Bo Levi Mitchell. Hamilton was the talk of the East Division and he was steamrolling toward an MOP award as well. Now, we'll see if Tre Ford and/or Jake Dolegala can keep the ship afloat the rest of the way. Obviously, they were thrust into a bad spot last week against Winnipeg and face an even tougher task this week vs Saskatchewan. The good news is that they will have a full week of prep for the Riders. The bad news is that the Riders are still one of the CFL's better teams. The Edmonton Elks are the lone undefeated team in the 2026 CFL season and they'll be going up against the B.C. Lions in Week 5, a team that has yet to win a game this season. Will B.C. end its losing streak and deliver Edmonton its first setback, or will the Elks keep rolling? SportsLine expert Emory Hunt dives into that game and more with his Week 5 best bets. Born and raised in New Orleans, Hunt played running back at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and coached high school football before starting Football Gameplan, an in-depth analysis site. Over the past three seasons, Hunt is 132-111-2 on NFL bets. Here's a look at his picks for Week 5. Given how easily these two offenses can find the end zone, it's no surprise the total is approaching 61 points. I have been thoroughly impressed with the efficiency and effectiveness of the Argos' offensive attack this season. Quarterback Chad Kelly can make any play and will definitely do his part to keep his team in the game. For me, the difference between the two offenses is the Stamps' ability to run the ball. Running back Dedrick Mills has been excellent in both phases of offense and will be enough to give them the slight edge here at home against a dangerous Argos squad. Despite a late backdoor cover last weekend, the Redblacks still showed consistency issues on offense. However, they showed some fight in the fourth quarter, making things interesting down the stretch. I thought the Riders were outplayed last weekend by the Argonauts in the trenches and will look to prove that was an anomaly. Overall consistency is a real thing in football and the Riders have it, while the Redblacks are still searching for it. Bet on Week 5 CFL games with the latest DraftKings promo code and get $200 in bonus bets: British Columbia is giving up far too many big plays and points on defense. Until they start making more plays themselves, as their personnel on paper suggests they should, they'll find themselves in back-and-forth high-scoring games each week. There is no doubting their passing game and ability to score, but they lose all momentum because they aren't getting defensive stops. Right now, the Elks are playing great complementary football and are the best overall team in the league. When you play with extreme confidence and execute at a high level, you can accomplish great things. I don't see this team losing on the road with how well they are playing in all three facets of the game. Hamilton is coming off a bye week and really took it to the Blue Bombers in a Week 2 matchup. What stood out to me the most in that game was how dominant the Tiger-Cats were defensively in limiting the Bombers' run game. When you add the MOP-level play coming from QB Bo Levi Mitchell on top of that, the Ticats look like the team to beat in the East Division. Overall, there's something just not quite right about this year's Winnipeg squad. While I like the fight they play with, battling back in some games, there are breakdowns in both protection and on defense. Look for the Ticats to bring the hammer in the Hammer City this weekend. It’s Bruce Smith’s birthday — the Hall of Famer and Buffalo Bills legend turned 63 today. He, of course, is the NFL’s all-time sack leader — with 200 of them, a colossal number. I strongly feel his 1990 campaign with 101 tackles, 19 sacks, and five forced fumbles, (tackles for loss weren’t tracked yet) remains one of the finest individual defensive seasons of all-time. Smith was an eight-time First-Team All-Pro (!). I’m a believer that Smith remains the best NFL player in Bills history. After that statement, I’ll offer this — here’s how I’d rank the Top 10 all-time Bills players right now: 10. Butch Byrd 9. Billy Shaw 8. Mike Stratton 7. Joe DeLamielleure 6. Andre Reed 5. Thurman Thomas 4. Jim Kelly 3. OJ Simpson 2. Josh Allen 1. Bruce Smith Do you think Smith is the best Bills player in team history? And how would you rank your Top 10 Bills players entering the 2026 season? I have a poll for you (if you haven’t voted in the The Feed yet)
The 2026 CFL season moves into Week 3, and the Montreal Alouettes have won their first two contests, most recently taking down the Toronto Argonauts 37-30. Both Montreal and Toronto will be in action in Week 3, and those looking to make wagers on these CFL games and more should see what SportsLine expert Emory Hunt has to say before locking in their bets. Born and raised in New Orleans, Hunt played running back at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and coached high school football before starting Football Gameplan, an in-depth analysis site. Over the past three seasons, Hunt is 132-111-2 on NFL bets. Here's a look at his picks for Week 3. The Lions' defense did not look good last week against Saskatchewan, as it couldn't affect the pocket or get off the field. One could chalk it up to it being their first outing of the season, but it still wasn't a good look. What was promising was the aerial attack and their ability to find chunk plays deeper downfield. Hamilton evened their record last week with a solid road victory against Winnipeg, playing much better defense overall. Look for the Tiger Cats to take advantage at home as the Lions make the long trek out East. I thought Argos QB Chad Kelly looked impressive in his return to action after nearly two seasons. There wasn't a drop off in the passing success or aggressiveness. Offensively, Toronto looked more in midseason form than Ottawa did in its debut. While the Argos defense may be prone to giving up big plays in the passing game again, I thought they competed well against Montreal for the most part. Based on what I saw from the RedBlacks offensively in their first game two weeks ago, they could be in trouble here against a confident Toronto team. Wager on Hamilton-B.C., Toronto-Ottawa and more CFL games with the latest DraftKings promo code to get $200 in bonus bets after a first bet of $5+: The Alouettes still look like one of the better teams in the CFL, albeit in Week 3. They have one of the more balanced offenses in the league, and defensively they are still opportunistic. There were some seeds of success early in the year, but having last week off makes you wonder if the young team can stack positive performances after the break. I don't question RB Justin Rankin's ability to take control of a game. If the Alouettes can't stop him, the Elks can pull off the upset. I was wrong about QB Trevor Harris potentially looking his age. Last week, he looked and played like a guy still in his prime. Also, having a receiver like Sam Emilus will make any QB look spry. The reigning Grey Cup champions' offense had little resistance from the B.C. Lions, and it was an impressive showing for their offensive line. Unfortunately, they enter this game a bit banged up in that area, which could alter what we see from them against a solid Calgary defense. The Stamps hope to fare much better against the run this week than what we saw from them in the opener against Winnipeg. I expect that'll be the case, allowing them to get the win here at home against their hated rivals Saskatchewan. Several teams had byes in Week 1 of the 2026 CFL season, including the defending Grey Cup champions Saskatchewan Roughriders. They'll be in action in Week 2, taking on the BC Lions, who also had the opening week off. The Montreal Alouettes will try to log another win when they face the Toronto Argonauts, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers square off with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Before locking in your wagers for Week 2 of the CFL season, you should see what proven SportsLine football expert Emory Hunt is saying about this week's matchups. Born and raised in New Orleans, Hunt played running back at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and coached high school football before starting Football Gameplan, an in-depth analysis site. Over the past three seasons, Hunt is 132-111-2 on NFL bets. Here's a look at his picks for Week 2. Throughout the game, the Blue Bombers' defense and run game found enough plays to secure the win against Calgary. Jake Ceresna's three sacks were huge in the contest. What concerned me, however, was their inability to stop the run. That could be exactly what the doctor ordered for this Tiger-Cats offensive attack that struggled to do so last weekend. Hamilton must find its run game to help take pressure off its highly-capable passing attack. I thought the lack of a run game really hurt their chances to close out the Alouettes last weekend. Defensively, they struggled to get off the field consistently and that could rear its ugly head again here on the road against the steady Blue Bombers. Welcome to the 2026 season Toronto, as the Argos had a bye in Week 1. Chad Kelly returns after missing the entire 2025 season recovering from an injury. What type of play should we expect from Kelly and how much rust will there be from him and the passing game? I thought the Alouettes looked to be in midseason form against Hamilton, showcasing their ability to strike deep in the passing game and convert 2nd downs at a high clip. The advantage here in my eyes goes toward Montreal having a game under their belt combined with the relative unknown regarding Toronto's offensive attack. Use the latest DraftKings promo code to get $200 in bonus bets when you wager $5+ on CFL Week 2 games: This is the game that I am looking forward to watching the most this weekend because of the tantalizing matchups across the board, with the biggest one being the Lions offense vs the Riders defense. While the defense of BC is no slouch, the Riders rode their defense to an excellent 2025 season and still bring some of the same firepower into this season. Offensively speaking, there is much more trust in the Lions entering their opener, as they have the perfect blend of a run game, passing attack and a quarterback in Nathan Rourke who played much better toward the back stretch of last year. Sam Emulius for Saskatchewan is a tremendous talent and will find his fair share of big plays, but I worry about veteran QB Trevor Harris's ability to escape the deadly duo of Matheiu Betts and Sione Teuhema coming off the edge
