Sleeper status change for Nick Chubb (4988). Before: status=Active, injury_status=IR. After: status=Active, injury_status=
The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly considering free agent running back Nick Chubb, whom ESPN's Matt Bowen identified as a potential fit for the team. Chubb, who suffered a major knee injury in 2023, showed flashes of his former self last season with 506 rushing yards and three touchdowns, averaging over four yards per attempt. He could serve as a valuable RB2 or RB3 behind starter Javonte Williams, providing power and vision in short-yardage situations and contributing in the passing game on checkdowns. A one-year, inexpensive deal is seen as a possibility for the 30-year-old back
Although the Houston Texans acquired running back David Montgomery in an offseason trade with the Detroit Lions, second-year back Woody Marks should "stay fresh in a complementary role that should involve a lot of opportunities to catch passes out of the backfield," according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Sports. As long as Montgomery stays healthy, Marks won't have an opportunity to take over a three-down role in Houston, but he could still be very valuable for fantasy managers in PPR leagues, and RotoBaller has Marks currently ranked as the No. 45 overall RB in half-PPR setups. The former fourth-rounder out of USC in 2025 was a prolific pass-catcher as a Trojan and during his time at Mississippi State. Marks finished his rookie campaign in the NFL with a team-high 703 rushing yards on 196 carries after taking over the starting gig from veteran Nick Chubb. The 25-year-old added 24 receptions on 36 targets for 208 yards and three scores through the air in 16 regular-season games (eight starts). In college, Marks had at least 47 catches in four of his five seasons
All things considered, Chubb was fairly productive in 2025. Signed by the Texans over the summer just to provide some backfield depth, the oft-injured veteran got thrust into a much larger role when Joe Mixon suffered a foot injury that wound up costing him the entire campaign. Chubb saw significant volume in the first half, getting double-digit carries in six of Houston's first eight games while compiling 355 rushing yards and two touchdowns, but his usage shrank down the stretch as the Texans leaned on younger options like Woody Marks. Chubb finished the season with a respectable 4.1 yards per carry and an above-average 2.1 yards per carry after contact, although those numbers paled in comparison to his Cleveland heyday. A free agent once again, Chubb is no longer capable of being a 300-carry workhorse, but the 30-year-old might have something to offer a backfield looking for a depth piece who can take snaps on all three downs
While we wait for the full release of the 2026 NFL regular-season schedule — and comb through the details we do have such as the nine international games — we start to think about what teams have a tough road in the year ahead, and what teams will barely even go on the road. The Carolina Panthers fall into the latter category. Due to the NFL’s scheduling formula, the Panthers have just eight road games this year. Those include games against their NFC South division rivals, games against the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers (as the NFC South squares off with the AFC North in 2026), and a game against the Philadelphia Eagles . When you add up all the road trips, the Panthers are traveling just 8,740 miles this year, the fewest in the league, according to this projection . Not too far behind are the Cleveland Browns, who will rack up just 9,073 miles this year. It probably comes as no surprise that the two teams that are traveling the most are the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams, who will meet in Week 1 in the NFL’s first regular-season game in Australia. The two NFC West rivals will square off at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on September 11 in Australia/September 10 here in the United States. That is not the only international game on San Francisco ’s slate, as the 49ers will travel to Mexico City to take on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11. As for the Panthers, this schedule could be a blessing. Last year the New England Patriots advanced to Super Bowl LX, and while the relative ease of their schedule was a talking point, another factor in their rise was how little New England traveled in 2025 . Until the Patriots traveled to Denver to take on the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game, their longest trek in 2025 was to New Orleans to play the Saints , and they left the Eastern Time Zone just twice during the regular season: For that Saints game, and for a game against the Tennessee Titans . Could the Panthers follow a similar path to a Super Bowl?
The Texans didn't waste much time after defensive end Will Anderson became eligible for a contract extension before signing him to a new deal that ties him to the franchise through the 2030 season
