Seahawks sign one of their former draft picks from a decade ago
On the eve of the first day of training camp, the Seattle Seahawks have found their replacement at tight end for the recently waived Harrison Bryant , and it’s one of their own draft picks from a decade ago. Nick Vannett, a 2016 third-round selection out of Ohio State, has returned to the Seahawks for the first time since he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers back in 2019. Vannett most recently played for the Los Angeles Rams , having been poached off the Minnesota Vikings practice squad. He was one of three tight ends Seattle tried out earlier this week . The 33-year-old Vannett caught 48 passes for 463 yards and four touchdowns during his Seahawks career. He was primarily a blocking tight end who backed up Jimmy Graham at the start of his career and then was essentially the top tight end on the roster in 2018 following injuries to Ed Dickson and Will Dissly . To make room for Vannett on the 90-man roster, the Seahawks waived cornerback Tyrone Broden with an injury designation. Broden was on the PUP list with an undisclosed injury before he was let go. 3-Point Stance: The Patriots need to make a move at tight end

After a season-ending injury to tight end Julian Hill during a practice earlier this offseason, the New England Patriots became suddenly thin at the position without the new free-agent signing’s presence as a blocker. So much so that head coach Mike Vrabel acknowledged that’s a spot the team may need to bolster. “I think just from a numbers standpoint in camp, I think that’s somewhere we’ll probably have to evaluate the numbers,” Vrabel said during mandatory minicamp . “There are 90 guys, 91 guys on every team. So, we’ll just have to take a look at that, but I would say that’s probably somewhere we would have to address.” Minicamp ended on June 11, and with training camp now three weeks away, no move has been made yet. Some remaining free agents that fit Hill’s archetype are Will Dissly , Nick Vannett and Pharaoh Brown , who spent the 2023 season with the Patriots as a late-summer addition. Nonetheless, there’s a glaring need for reinforcement. Hill was brought in following the Austin Hooper departure to the Atlanta Falcons . Hooper was a short-to-intermediate receiving threat behind veteran Hunter Henry and was also a competent blocker. The 25-year-old Hill has the tools to fill a similar kind of role. He offers reliable blocking at the position, and Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf also showed confidence in him as a receiver. “Really kind of improved each year that he’s been in it,” Wolf said earlier this offseason. “And you know, we think there’s probably still some meat on the bone in the passing game as well for him, but certainly a physical tough guy at the point of attack.” But now, without Hill, New England may not have an immediate replacement available on its current roster. As of now, third-round NFL Draft selection Eli Raridon is the closest option to that versatile role; however, as a developmental prospect, he may need time to grow into it. Raridon struggled to find consistent playing time during his first two seasons at Notre Dame, nursing two torn ACLs on the same knee. It wasn’t until his senior season in 2025 that he found his footing, catching 32 passes for 482 yards. The rookie’s combination of size and athleticism is what makes Raridon such an intriguing tight end. At 6-foot-6 and 245 pounds with a 36-inch vertical leap, he has the traits to become a vertical threat up the seam and a reliable red-zone target for quarterback Drake Maye . Because of his natural ability as a pass catcher, it’s easy to envision Maye connecting with Raridon throughout 2026. Still, he’ll need to make considerable improvements as a blocker to prove he can assume a role similar to what Hill would’ve provided. Raridon is a willing blocker but needs to further develop his play strength and refine his technique. It’s not guaranteed that Raridon progresses enough to reliably fill a hybrid role as a blocker and receiver by the beginning of the season, and he may just start as a weapon for Maye. Adding another body provides insurance and stability; otherwise, the Patriots are relying on a largely inexperienced group. Jack Westover leads the group behind Henry in experience, entering his third season in the league and with the team. The 27-year-old was New England’s fullback in 2025, blocking out of the backfield, but has struggled blocking as an in-line Y-tight end. Westover is then followed by 2025 undrafted free agent C.J. Dippre, Raridon, and UDFA Tanner Arkin from Illinois. At 6-foot-4 and 262 pounds, Arkin has the physical tools and power to assume that duty. That said, he hasn’t had the opportunity to showcase that ability in the NFL with pads on yet. During minicamp, Henry spoke on Arkin’s development in the spring, saying that the rookie has been taking advantage of his opportunities and is someone who’s continued to improve. Fantasy Football Sleepers, Busts & Predictions: 2026 Houston Texans
In C.J. Stroud ’s first ever postseason game, he passed for 3 touchdowns against 0 interceptions in a 45-14 beatdown of the Browns. His passer rating was 157.2. In five games since, he has 3 touchdowns against 6 interceptions. His passer rating is 70.1, and the Texans have gone 2-3, and their two wins have come when Justin Herbert fell apart at the seams in 2024 and when the Steelers offense might as well have not shown up last postseason. Stroud’s falloff in the regular season has gotten the headline, but it’s really the postseason where his struggles have been the starkest. The Texans haven’t scored more than 16 points in any of their three playoff losses. Stroud’s future — in Houston or elsewhere — will be one of the biggest topics of the NFL season. There’s a path for the Texans to get back to the playoffs even if he is more the version of him from 2024-2025 than the looked-like-a-star rookie of 2023 (source: they made the playoffs in 2024-2025), but if he can’t look like a star in the postseason, the Texans have less than zero shot at a Super Bowl. Dalton Schultz has had one very key attribute for his six-year run as a relevant fantasy tight end: Exclusivity. The most targets earned by a tight end on a Dalton Schultz team in the last six years who wasn’t Schultz was 22, by Jake Ferguson in 2022 and Cade Stover in 2024. There just hasn’t been target competition for Schultz. Klein also might not be that either. After all, he only had 38 receptions in four years of college, peaking with 248 yards and a touchdown last year at Michigan. But he enters the NFL as a known quantity as a blocker, and blocking is something Schultz isn’t any great shakes at. That’s definitely why the Texans drafted Klein in the second round ahead of guys like Max Klare and Oscar Delp . And if he can establish himself as a blocker, especially on a team that needs blocking help, that’s a path to playing time, which is half the battle. I’m reminded of Will Dissly , who had 25 receptions for 336 yards in his college career and then 105 yards in his very first NFL game. He’s never been a star in the NFL, but he’s had seasons of 349 and 481 yards, of 4 and 3 touchdowns, despite entering the NFL as a guy who wasn’t going to catch passes. Klein is absolutely free in drafts. But if he proves to be a good blocker, he could find his way to fantasy-relevant weeks almost by accident. Last year was the first time in Montgomery’s seven-year career that he failed to reach 1,000 scrimmage yards, in fact his first time since his rookie year not to reach 1,100. He also saw a career-low 158 carries, down from 185 in 2024 after never having under 200 before that. Sure, Jahmyr Gibbs took his game to a new level last year and Montgomery had to suffer as a result, but he’s also 28 now and has developed into more of just a plodder — he had 15 explosive runs last year (per FTN Stats & Charting ), his fewest in three years with the Lions, and moving from the Detroit offensive line to whatever Houston has put together certainly won’t help that. If Montgomery can’t be counted on to break the occasional explosive run, and if Woody Marks is the receiving back in Houston, and if the Houston line can’t give him much help before the run, what is the appeal of Montgomery as a Texan? I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s losing work to Jawhar Jordan by the end of the year. The Titans are improving, but there’s still plenty of work to do to get them to contender status. The Colts have potential, but with Daniel Jones a mystery both in health and ability, it’s hard to roll with them. I’ve already written why I think the Jaguars will be a third-place team this year . That leaves the Texans to win the AFC South. That feels safe. The problem is … are the Texans that good? To be sure, this team has a very good defense, but we know that defense is less predictable year-over-year than offense. New England Patriots address tight end position
The Patriots are looking to add veteran depth at tight end following the season-ending loss of Julian Hill. Hunter Henry is entering the final year of his contract, and rookie Eli Raridon is an unknown quantity.
