It was a good Week 4. Not a great Week 4, but a good one. We went 3-2 on best bets, nailing both game picks. The Cowboys beat the Texans as slight road underdogs, and the Jaguars , also slight road underdogs, beat the Bengals . Those were two bold calls, and both games came down to the final possession, but I was glad to be on the right side. Sometimes you gotta be bold. We also cashed in on Kirk Cousins 1+ interception, and that one also came down to, quite literally, the Raiders ' final offensive play. Better late than never! My two misses were frustrating ones. I pegged Josh Downs to record 5+ receptions and 50+ yards against the struggling Commanders secondary. Neither happened as Daniel Jones continued his season-long turnover woes with a fumble and an interception. When Washington had to turn to third-string quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis , the Colts took control and barely had to throw the ball. Furthermore, we missed on Aaron Jones Sr. 50+ rushing yards and anytime touchdown scorer. He ran for 94 yards but didn't find the end zone. In fact, the Vikings ' offense has only had one touchdown over the past three weeks. I'm thinking we've gotta stay away from any positive Minnesota offensive production, at least for another week or two. I'll keep saying it: The more we learn, the better we should do. That played out with our best week yet. Let's keep that trajectory. As always, all betting odds are courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook. You might think that the Titans held up OK against the Ravens last week, only losing 24-18. That wouldn't be the case. It was 24-7 at halftime, and only a Lamar Jackson injury prevented this one from being a complete laugher. The Titans haven't lost by multiple possessions once -- back in Week 1 -- so that's another reason this line is where it is. But I very much believe we're going to see a Texans blowout here. The Texans are 0-4. DeMeco Ryans took defensive play-calling duties back from Matt Burke this week, citing the need for better communication; the Texans are 28th in explosive play rate allowed. Even if the move doesn't improve things immediately, the Titans (26th in explosive play rate) aren't equipped to exploit that weakness. Moreover, C.J. Stroud is playing really well, even if it's being overshadowed by the winless record. He's ninth in yards per attempt and 11th in success rate plus explosive play rate. If you only took his numbers when Nico Collins is on the field, those ranks would be second and third, respectively. He hasn't thrown an interception this season either. All of this is to say I expect a big Texans win. The Packers cannot stop the run. The Bears lead the NFL in rushing yards. Is that a good place to start for why I'm rolling with the Bears? I'd say yes. There are other things working in the Bears' favor. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is getting the most out of his group; the Bears lead the NFL in sack rate, and the Bears have the second-lowest missed tackle rate in the league. (The Packers have the fourth- highest rate, for what it's worth.) The Chicago defense's biggest weakness is its run defense, but the Packers have not been able to run the ball consistently whatsoever. Jordan Love could hit some big plays over the top to ruin this pick. The Bears are giving up a lot of big plays. But I also think they can get a turnover or two -- something they did well last year -- and the offense can control this game on the ground. No Edgerrin Cooper for the Packers will loom large, too. Only Lamar Jackson (144) has more rushing yards than Drake Maye (136) this season among quarterbacks, and the Patriots signal caller is coming off a 54-yard day on the ground against the Bills. He's surpassed 30+ yards in two of four games this year, and this should be an enticing matchup to make it three out of five. The Raiders have allowed 77 rushing yards to opposing quarterbacks this season, the ninth-most in the NFL, and that's on 6.4 yards per carry, the sixth-highest. [... truncated ...]

Commanders fans dominated in London game vs. Colts
The Commanders’ loss in London to the Colts had nothing to do with a lack of fan support. Via Nathan Brown of the Indianapolis Star, the neutral-site game for which the Commanders were the designated home team was dominated by Commanders fans . “I think out of all the teams I’ve played overseas, [the Commanders] is the fanbase that traveled the best that I’ve seen,” Colts safety Camryn Bynum said. “Maybe that’s because they’re on the east coast, and so it’s a closer flight? “But it is still six hours for them, so I don’t know. They did travel really well.” Usually, international games feature an eclectic mix of NFL jerseys and colors. As explained by Brown, the crowd in excess of 60,000 consisted largely of maroon. It didn’t make a difference for the Commanders, who lost the game 30-13. The Commanders were down to their third-string quarterback today in London, and although rookie Athan Kaliakmanis showed some arm strength, it was the Colts’ running game that controlled the game. Jonathan Taylor ran for two touchdowns, Daniel Jones ran for another, and the Colts beat the Commanders 30-13. With first-string quarterback Jayden Daniels out because of an elbow injury, backup Marcus Mariota started for the Commanders. But Mariota had to leave in the first quarter with a knee injury, and that left it to Kaliakmanis to run the show the rest of the way. Kaliakmanis did make some big plays, with completions of 48 and 47 yards as well as an 87-yard touchdown called back by a penalty, but he couldn’t do enough and the Colts controlled the game throughout. Mariota wasn’t the only Commanders player lost to injury. Commanders wide receiver Jaylin Lane had to be carted off the field after suffering an ankle injury on a kickoff return and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game. The Colts improve to 2-2 with the win, but questions remain about Jones, who was not impressive throwing the ball. Jones went 19-for-34 for 143 yards, with no touchdown passes, an interception and a lost fumble. The Commanders fall to 1-3, and they’re in a tough place, with no word yet on who their starting quarterback will be when they face the Giants next week. If Daniels can’t return to the field and return to the level of play he showed as a rookie two years ago, the Commanders’ season could spiral in a hurry

The Commanders’ offense is down to its third-string quarterback, and it shows. Rookie Athan Kaliakmanis is now running Washington’s offense after Marcus Mariota exited today’s game with a knee injury. Starter Jayden Daniels is not active today because of an elbow injury. The Colts lead 10-6 at halftime. The offense, which was moving the ball well with Mariota, has sputtered with Kaliakmanis. It hasn’t been all his fault; there have been major protection breakdowns that have had Kaliakmanis throwing under pressure. The Colts’ offense hasn’t been very good, either, and doesn’t have a third-string quarterback to blame. Starter Daniel Jones has looked mostly awful today, although the Colts did score on one drive, with Jonathan Taylor running for a touchdown. That drive was aided by a highly questionable unnecessary roughness penalty on Washington’s Amik Robertson after the Commanders appeared to have a third-down stop. The Commanders are going to have to find a way to protect Kaliakmanis, and the Colts have to hope that Jones can shake off his ugly start

The Commanders ' quarterback injury woes got even worse Sunday in London: Marcus Mariota , already starting in place of Jayden Daniels (elbow), suffered a right knee injury in the first quarter against the Colts and is officially questionable to return . After a short time in the injury tent, Mariota walked back to the locker room for further evaluation. Washington turned to third-string quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis , a seventh-round rookie out of Rutgers, getting his first career NFL snaps. Mariota -- who relieved Daniels in the second half of Week 2 against the Cowboys and started in last week's 33-31 upset win of the Seahawks -- was off to a strong start against the Colts. Washington scored field goals on each of its first two possessions, with Mariota completing three of four passes for 46 yards and also ripping off a 35-yard run. But he went down on a red-zone sack, with his right leg getting pinned awkwardly. He was able to walk off under his own power, albeit gingerly.
