The San Francisco 49ers continue to churn the bottom of their roster. The team’s cancellation of this week’s mandatory minicamp has not prevented them from making moves. The 49ers signed running back Sincere McCormick for what feels like the 17th time. To make room for McCormick, running back Jordan Mims was waived. Mims was signed on May 28 . McCormick has been in the NFL since 2022, when he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent. He was on the Raiders roster through the 2024 season. Since then, he’s had stints with the 49ers, Cardinals, Broncos, and Vikings, appearing in five games during that stretch. He was also on each team’s practice squad before signing with San Francisco on April 28 and being released for Mims on May 28. The 49ers’ stable of running backs consists of Christian McCaffrey , Jordan James , and Kaelon Black. That’s who we can expect to get the brunt of the workload for this upcoming season. Guerendo’s roster spot is in jeopardy, especially with veteran Patrick Taylor’s ability to cover kicks and contribute on special teams — an area where Guerendo was demoted

It’s McCormick’s third stint in San Francisco, where he spent time on the practice squad last season and also time on the offseason roster this year. He originally entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Raiders in 2022 and spent three years with the Raiders, playing in five games and carrying 39 times for 183 yards. He has also had brief stops with the Cardinals, Broncos and Vikings. ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that the San Francisco 49ers signed running backs Jordan Mims and Jemar Jefferson. The team also released running back Sincere McCormick and placed safety Darrick Forrest on the Injured Reserve. McCormick has had multiple stints on the 49ers roster and practice squad. Mims was an undrafted free agent in 2023 out of Fresno State. He’s listed at 5’10”, 200 pounds. He had 20 carries during the 2024 season with the New Orleans Saints for 70 yards. He also caught 12 passes that season for 71 yards. Mims was most recently with the Titans last season, where he played 9 special teams snaps in Week 2 on the kickoff coverage and return teams. Mims’ pro day results out of Fresno were underwhelming: Vertical – 30 Broad Jump – 9’5″ Bench – 18 40 – 4.65 Shuttle – 4.52 3-cone – 7.50 Jefferson was a seventh-round pick out of the 2021 NFL Draft. He played his college ball at Oregon State. Jefferson had 15 carries for 74 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie with the Detroit Lions . But his only other action in the NFL came in 2024, when he had six carries. We’re in the offseason, so these opportunities will be more for health purposes as much as they will be for Mims and Jefferson to earn roster spots. The 49ers aren’t going to put a lot on Christian McCaffrey ’s plate during OTAs and minicamp. The real battle is between Kaelon Black and Jordan James . With that said, there will still be a need for your 2s and 3s, and that’s where depth signings like these come into play

49ers sign RB Jordan Mims
The 49ers have made an addition to their offensive backfield. The agents for running back Jordan Mims announced that their client has agreed to a deal with the NFC West club. Mims appeared in one game for the Titans in 2025. Mims initially signed with the Bills after going undrafted in 2023 and moved on to the Saints to make his regular season debut. He played two games as a rookie and 11 games the next season. He has 20 carries for 71 yards and 12 catches for 71 yards for his career. Christian McCaffrey is the lead back for the 49ers. Jordan James, Isaac Guerendo, Patrick Taylor, Sincere McCormick, and third-round pick Kaelon Black are the other backs. UPDATE 4:35 p.m. ET : The NFL’s daily transaction wire shows that the 49ers also signed running back Jermar Jefferson. They waived McCormick and placed defensive back Darrick Forrest on injured reserve

Isaac Guerendo Buried on Depth Chart, Looking for New Team?
The Athletic's Vic Tafur writes that San Francisco 49ers running back Isaac Guerendo, who was a fourth-round pick in 2024, "seems like he is buried" and will be "looking for a new team." The 49ers say that they will be looking to give Christian McCaffrey fewer touches in 2026, which is why they drafted rookie Kaelon Black in the third round. The Niners also have Jordan James, Patrick Taylor Jr., and Sincere McCormick in their RB room, leaving little playing time left for Guerendo. Black is expected to compete with James for the No. 2 role, so the 25-year-old Guerendo figures to be the RB4 in San Fran right now, at best. Guerendo carried the ball 84 times for 420 yards (5.0 yards per carry) and four touchdowns while adding 15 receptions for 152 yards through the air in 16 regular-season games (three starts), but he didn't see a single carry in 14 regular-season contests in Year 2 in 2025. He appears to be the odd-man out, making him a cut candidate in dynasty/keeper leagues going into the 2026 campaign
