The Chiefs waived Oladokun (undisclosed) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Friday, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports. The settlement allows Oladokun to sign and play with another team once he's fully healthy. He's a candidate to stay in Kansas City on the practice squad, which currently doesn't have a quarterback

Oladokun (undisclosed) reverted to the Chiefs' injured reserve list Monday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports. The 28-year-old will now spend the entirety of the 2026 regular season on IR unless he is waived with an injury settlement

sleeper-rotowireAug 30, 2026, 10:24 PMSource unavailable

Chris Oladokun

The Chiefs waived/injured Oladokun (undisclosed) on Sunday. Oladokun participated in the first two preseason games for the Chiefs before missing the third due to injury. The quarterback completed 10 of his 17 pass attempts for 78 yards and an interception. The 28-year-old also rushed four times for 32 yards. Oladokun was unable to outperform Justin Fields or Garrett Nussmeier and will now be placed on waivers. The quarterback will likely go unclaimed and spend the entirety of the 2026 season on the Chiefs' injured reserve list unless he is waived with an injury settlement

Patrick Mahomes will not play on Saturday

Pro Football TalkAug 13, 2026, 7:42 PM+69 stories · 30dSource ↗

Patrick Mahomes Justin Fields Garrett Nussmeier

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said last week that quarterback Patrick Mahomes would probably sit out the team’s first preseason game and he gave a more emphatic answer about Mahomes’s status on Thursday. Reid said at a press conference that Mahomes will not play against the Rams. Reid previously said that he did not know if Mahomes will play at all in the preseason, but he did not offer any definitive answers about the team’s final two games on Thursday. Keeping Mahomes on the bench is a departure from how the Chiefs have typically handled preseason work in past years, but the quarterback’s recovery from a torn ACL dictated a change to the usual routine. Justin Fields, Garrett Nussmeier, and Chris Oladokun will handle the quarterback work for the Chiefs this weekend

Andy Reid: I don't know if Patrick Mahomes will play in the preseason

Pro Football TalkAug 7, 2026, 8:39 PM+69 stories · 30dSource ↗

Patrick Mahomes Justin Fields Garrett Nussmeier

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has not shied away from playing quarterback Patrick Mahomes in past preseasons, but Mahomes is coming off a torn ACL this summer and it sounds like Reid has a different approach in mind. The Chiefs will play their first preseason game against the Rams a week from Saturday and Reid said at a Friday press conference that he is not inclined to play Mahomes in that game. Reid went on to say that he doesn’t know if Mahomes will see any game action before the Chiefs host the Broncos on the first Monday night of the regular season. “There’s a pretty good chance I don’t play him [against the Rams],” Reid said. “Percentages are leaning that way. I don’t know if I’ll play him the second or third game, I don’t know that, but the percentages likely lean against doing that. We’ve got new people in those other positions behind him that need some work, and so the more reps they get, the better.” Justin Fields, Garrett Nussmeier and Chris Oladokun are the other Chiefs quarterbacks. Fields and Nussmeier are both new to the team this season. Reid and the Chiefs got to experience life without Mahomes last year and no one in Kansas City will have an appetite for risking a repeat of that in a game that doesn’t factor into the standings. Final answers on the team’s plans will come in the next couple of weeks, but it doesn’t sound like anyone should expect to see No. 15 until September

Patrick Mahomes shockingly set to be ‘fully cleared’ seven months after tearing ACL

Yahoo Sports NFLJul 22, 2026, 1:51 AM+69 stories · 30dSource ↗

Patrick Mahomes Justin Fields Chris Oladokun

Chiefs fans will likely have their two-time MVP quarterback return sooner rather than later. Patrick Mahomes is expected to be “fully cleared” this week, per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer . Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL in Week 15 and underwent surgery on Dec. 15. Mahomes was a full participant at Chiefs OTAs in May in both individuals and 7-on-7s, donning a yellow non-contact jersey. During Phase III, the team kept him out of 11-on-11 drills as a precaution. Mahomes also took part in mandatory minicamp, putting him on track to be ready for camp in July and August. Chiefs quarterbacks and rookies will report to training camp three days earlier than the rest of the team, so Mahomes will be back at Kansas City ’s facility in St. Joseph, Mo., on Friday. However, Mahomes will have to face defenders for the first time on the surgically repaired knee. Breer also noted the toughness of Kansas City’s offseason programs, noting that Mahomes has previously played in preseason games. During training camp, the Chiefs will also see action under center from Justin Fields , Chris Oladokun and rookie Garrett Nussmeier . It remains to be seen whether Mahomes will generally split time early in camp, and how the team will handle his reps in the preseason

Oladokun started the Chiefs' final two games of 2025 due to Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew both being sidelined, but he was benched at halftime in Week 18 against the Raiders. Now, Oladokun looks like the No. 4 option on the depth chart behind Mahomes, new backup Justin Fields and rookie seventh-rounder Garrett Nussmeier. If Mahomes' recovery from an ACL tear causes him to miss time early in the year, however, Oladokun could stick around in the No. 3 role

Chris Oladokun - Benched at halftime

sleeper-rotowireJan 5, 2026, 12:09 AMSource unavailable

Chris Oladokun

Oladokun completed 11 of 17 passes for 58 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 14-12 loss to the Raiders. He added one rush for zero yards and two lost fumbles. Oladokun started his second consecutive game in the absence of both Patrick Mahomes (knee) and Gardner Minshew (knee). He led one field-goal drive midway through the first quarter, though he lost a pair of fumbles in the second quarter and was benched at halftime. Oladokun remains under contract with the Chiefs in 2026, but he's very unlikely to get another opportunity at starting, even if Mahomes is sidelined to begin the year

Chris Oladokun throws first career touchdown Thursday night

Chris Oladokun

Chris Oladokun completed 13 of 22 passes for 66 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions, adding 11 yards on two carries in Thursday's 20-13 loss to the Broncos. It was not an efficient night for Oladokun, as he averaged just better than five yards per completion, but it was certainly a memorable one. The 28-year-old threw his first career touchdown pass early in the second quarter of his first NFL start. He also managed to avoid any overly costly mistakes that would have taken the Chiefs out of the ballgame. Oladokun is likely to get another start in the Chiefs' season finale at Las Vegas next week
