Shedeur Sanders on QB battle with Deshaun Watson: We’re both trying to be the best version of ourselves
Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson are set to continue their competition to become Cleveland’s QB1 at training camp later this month. But before that, the two recently were down in South Florida training with some of the club’s skill players to prepare. At his youth football camp over the weekend, Sanders said that’s part of the attitude they want to put forth in the competition — they are willing to put everything aside to come together as a team. “I would say it’s the same thing that we’ve been saying from Day 1,” Sanders said, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “ We’re both trying to be the best version of ourselves we could be . So we’re not going to let anything get in between of that. So it’s a level of respect that we all in the quarterback room have for each other. “And we’re not really emotional when it comes to things that we can’t control. We mainly focus on and thrive on getting better in the work every day. So if I like something he’s doing, I ask. If he likes something I do, then [he] asks. It’s conversation, and that’s what’s most effective.” Cabot noted that Cleveland’s top receivers Jerry Jeudy, Isaiah Bond, Cedric Tillman, KC Concepcion, and Denzel Boston were among the attendees at the workouts in Miami. “I think it was extremely important that us as a group, for whoever was available, was available to come down to Miami,” Sanders said. “And there were a couple other players that schedules didn’t align with it, but it’s all good for those that came and stuff. It was truly amazing. And we felt a different type of bond just outside of the facility, outside of these things. “And we all vow to continue doing our part and keep it going while we’re here. Those relationships and how funny it is when you have a lot of dialogue and in different situations where a lot of your teammates is very fun and it’s exciting. You create these real memories, these real bonds, and it’s irreplaceable. So I’m truly thankful that it happened. I know everybody that came was excited and we had a great time.” Browns rookies are set to report to training camp in Northeast Ohio on July 23, with veterans reporting on July 28

Cleveland Browns training camp 2026: WR preview, Part 2 – Filling out the back end
The Cleveland Browns have 12 wide receivers in training camp, so we split up our receiver preview into two parts. You can catch up on Part 1 here . For Part 2 below, surely there is one gem who will rise above the rest to stick around? Height: 6-0 | Weight: 190 lbs | Age: 25 Experience: 3 years | College: Louisville Jamari Thrash was a 5th round pick by the Browns in 2024. He barely played as a rookie, but in training camp last year, he seemed to be doing well to go along with a nice preseason. Then, Isaiah Bond was signed and immediately moved ahead of Thrash it seemed like. Thrash caught 10 passes for 107 yards last year, but by midseason, he was inactive the rest of the year. In December, the team even waived him for a week before adding him back to the roster. He could benefit from the fresh eyes of a new coaching staff, so one could argue that he’s just as much in competition for that fourth receiving role as the likes of Cedric Tillman , Isaiah Bond , and Malachi Corley . But I’m expecting this to end up being the end of his time with Cleveland, or a practice squad candidate. Final Roster Odds: 10% Height: 5-11 | Weight: 200 lbs | Age: 27 Experience: 6 years | College: Oklahoma State Tylan Wallace was a 4th round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in 2021, so there’s one of the team’s few ties to new head coach Todd Monken . Don’t expect his offensive production alone to win him a roster spot, though. In 5 years with Baltimore, Wallace had 22 catches for 305 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wallace is one of the candidates this year to be a team’s, “He’s a receiver, but he really factors in on special teams.” With how bad the Browns were on special teams defense this year, besides a new special teams coach coming in, they also needed fresh personnel. Wallace isn’t known as an ace per se, but he did have 23 special teams tackles in 5 years, including 8 last year. He also has a little bit of NFL experience returning punts and kickoffs, although he was not in that role regularly with Baltimore. Final Roster Odds: 25% Height: 5-8 | Weight: 171 lbs | Age: 23 Experience: 2 years | College: South Carolina I had a thing for Gage Larvadain last year. As an undrafted free agent, he made some nice plays in training camp and led the team with 9 catches for 94 yards and 1 touchdown, 2 rushes for 20 yards (including 1 touchdown), and had 10 punt returns. I never realized how small he was until doing this write-up, but he didn’t play like a 5-8, 171 lbs receiver. During the regular season, Larvadain ended up becoming the team’s primary punt returner, finishing with 24 returns for 167 yards (7.0 yards per return). He was worked into some reps at receiver too, logging 7 catches for 71 yards and running 1 time for 3 yards. I’ll still be rooting for Larvadain in this year’s camp, but he (along with the other guys below) face an uphill battle at trying to make a positive impression with the depth ahead of them. Unlike Wallace, Larvadain did not play special teams defense a year ago. Final Roster Odds: 20% Height: 5-8 | Weight: 180 lbs | Age: 24 Experience: 1 year | College: Kent State Luke Floriea is the local kid. If you recall, he went undrafted last year, but the Browns picked up the Mentor native and Kent State alumni for training camp. Floriea has a great start to camp last year, and fans will remember this beautiful 30-yard snag that he had from Shedeur Sanders in the preseason (see below). Unfortunately, while making that same catch, he hurt his hamstring, which led to him missing the rest of camp and eventually being waived/injured. He eventually re-signed with the Browns and spent the season on the practice squad. In my head, I root for the underdog story and could see a path for Floriea overcoming the odds and winning a role in this offense. He’s already shown some good things this offseason, and those positive plays won’t go unnoticed by a new coaching staff. But, it’s still very crowded on the back end of the roster here. 49ers ready to release WR Brandon Aiyuk, should the Browns make an offer?
Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk with the San Francisco 49ers. Where do you start? Leading up to April’s NFL draft, San Fran GM John Lynch stated that Aiyuk was not going to be traded. The team voided the $27 million in guaranteed money in his contract. Aiyuk has been rehabbing from a torn ACL that he suffered last season. Aiyuk had a warrant issued by the District Attorney’s office for a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speeding. From that point on, after destroying his knee, Aiyuk went AWOL from the franchise and is currently on the reserve/left squad list. Then, the cryptic social media messages Aiyuk posted stated the Niners front office was “mad because they are stupid.” RELATED: CONCEPCION AND BOSTON – A PERFECT COMPLEMENT Now, there are reports that the 49ers are ready to release Aiyuk and start a new chapter that doesn’t include him. Should the Browns reach out? It is no secret that last season, Cleveland had one of the worst receiver groups in the league, ranking #31. But a lot has transpired since the end of the 2025 NFL season. Jerry Jeudy is still on the roster. In April’s college draft, GM Andrew Berry selected KC Concepcion out of Texas A&M in the bottom of the first round. With the very next pick, Berry took Washington receiver Denzel Boston. Veteran Tylan Wallace was signed in free agency , although he is more of a return man. Isaiah Bond is scheduled to grow his development and take control of the slot receiver spot. It remains uncertain where Cedric Tillman ’s role will be, if at all, and there are still capable backups such as Malachi Corley and Jamari Thrash to consider. One might ask: where exactly would Aiyuk fit? Aiyuk (6’-0”, 200 pounds) was drafted by the 49ers after a very good Senior Bowl week in 2020 and was the 25th overall pick. As a rookie, he became the first receiver since the merger year of 1970 to score two rushing touchdowns in his first three NFL games. He has played in 69 NFL games with 67 starts. His stats: 446 targets, 294 receptions for 4,305 yards, 209 first down conversions, 25 touchdowns, 14.6 yards per catch average, 1,493 YAC, and 22 drops. He has also rushed 13 times for 117 yards and scored twice. His best season was in 2023 when he had 75 catches for 1,342 yards with seven TDs. He was voted Second Team All-Pro that year. Aiyuk has never had breakaway speed and has issues getting separation. He is a good route runner with excellent YAC numbers. He is considered dynamic with a massive catch radius. Aiyuk a tremendous wingspan of 80” with shiftiness and good vision. After his breakout year, the 49ers then inked him to a four-year $120 million extension at the end of 2024 training camp. But in Week 7, he tore his MCL and ACL against the Kansas City Chiefs, which required surgery and landed him on IR. At the beginning of training camp last year, he was placed on the PUP list as he was still experiencing issues. He did not play a down in 2025 and San Fran went after the majority of his guaranteed money that remained. Aiyuk’s future with the 49ers, and in the league for that matter, has been a hot topic all offseason. He refused to rehab at the team’s facilities and, in fact, had his surgery performed in Los Angeles , where he remained for his rehab. All of this was a point of contention with the Niners front office, who prefer to have its medical and rehab staff take care of situations like this. Teams prefer to monitor their own wounded. And without being under the thumb of the organization, the 49ers had no real way of knowing what was going on with Aiyuk’s rehab. There were rumors of scar tissue that wasn’t properly taken care of. Aiyuk cut off all communication with the team, so nobody knew anything. Does Aiyuk even want to play football any longer? The 49ers still don’t know anything about Aiyuk’s situation and timeline. Nobody is clear as to why Aiyuk has avoided all contact with his team. Now, he’s calling them “stupid.” NFL insider Jason Canfora stated that an [... truncated ...]
