The Panthers are adding a veteran linebacker at the same time as they are cutting their roster down to 53 players. According to multiple reports, they have agreed to terms with Bobby Okereke. Okereke was released by the Giants in March. Okereke started all 46 games he played over three seasons with the NFC East club and had 385 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. He moved to the Giants after spending four seasons with the Colts. The Panthers have not made the signing official yet, but they did announce that they have waived defensive tackle Kyon Barrs, wide receiver Elijah Cooks, running back Miles Davis, offensive tackle tackle Ryan Hayes, defensive tackle Tywone Malone, tight end Caden Prieskorn, and wide receiver Roc Taylor. They also released wide receiver Dan Chisena off of injured reserve
Carolina Panthers running back Trevor Etienne rushed for seven yards on six attempts while catching all four targets for 18 yards in Saturday's 29-14 preseason loss to the Buffalo Bills. Etienne led the team in receptions and tied Feleipe Franks and Eliah Cooks with four targets. The 22-year-old has natural hands and has shown flashes in the passing game. However, he started in the Hall of Fame game against Arizona and was limited to 11 total yards. With Jonathon Brooks' injury history and Chuba Hubbard (hamstring) being week-to-week with a hamstring injury, Etienne could have an expanded role if either were to miss any time. The former fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft is battling AJ Dillon for Carolina's RB3 spot behind Hubbard and Brooks. Etienne is a dynasty stash for now, but a name to watch in deep-league PPR formats if Hubbard continues to be sidelined with his hamstring issue into the regular season
The Panthers will be playing in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday night, but defensive lineman LaBryan Ray won’t be getting any snaps against the Cardinals. Ray won’t be getting any snaps in the rest of the team’s preseason games either. The Panthers announced on Tuesday that they have placed Ray on the reserve/retired list. Ray played in 46 games for the Panthers over the last three seasons. He had 73 tackles and a sack on over 1,100 defensive snaps. The Panthers also announced that they have signed wide receivers Roc Taylor and Elijah Cooks. Wideouts Gabriel Benyard and Ainias Smith were waived, which leaves Carolina with one open roster spot
Wide receiver Kaden Prather is going from the UFL to the NFL. Prather’s agent told NFL Media that his client is signing with the Packers. The NFL’s daily transaction report shows that Prather tried out for the team on Thursday. Prather was a Bills seventh-round pick out of Maryland in 2025, but he was waived off of injured reserve ahead of the start of the regular season. He moved on to Louisville in the UFL and contributed nine catches for 148 yards to the league champions. The Packers also worked out long snapper Cal Adomitis, wide receiver Elijhah Badger, tight end McCallan Castles, wide receiver Elijah Cooks, long snapper John Ferlmann, tight end Brandon Frazier, long snapper Brent Matiscik, wide receiver Titus Mokiao-Atimalala, and tight end Briley Moore
As the UFL season concludes, several players are transitioning to the NFL. Several other players have received tryouts or contracts with NFL teams, including WR Hakeem Butler (Denver Broncos), LB Tony Fields II (Chicago Bears), CB Sean Fresch Jr. (Denver Broncos), S Major Burns (Miami Dolphins), QB Hunter Dekkers (New Orleans Saints), RB Marcus Yarns (Denver Broncos), RB Kavon Latulas (Denver Broncos), RB Dae Dae Hunter (Denver Broncos), WR Denzel Mims (Dallas Cowboys), WR Tay Martin (Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints), WR Antwane Wells (Atlanta Falcons), WR Jalen Moreno-Cropper (New Orleans Saints), WR Lawrence Keys (Denver Broncos), WR Cam Camper (Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, New York Jets), WR Elijah Cooks (Chicago Bears), and OL Chris Glasier (Dallas Cowboys)
