Jaleel McLaughlin signed to Cleveland Browns' practice squad after being waived by Broncos
One of the Broncos’ more noteworthy roster cuts on Sunday was running back Jaleel McLaughlin. The former undrafted free agent made the team as a rookie after a standout performance during the preseason and became a key member of the Broncos’ offense for a period of time. Despite being undersized, McLaughlin ran well between the […]
The Broncos' 53-man roster cuts include the release of running back Jaleel McLaughlin
The Broncos’ reduction to 53 includes the release of a fourth-year running back who has appeared in 41 games with nine starts. Jaleel McLaughlin is among the cuts the Broncos made. The following players also were waived: defensive tackle Israel Antwine, cornerback Brent Austin, wide receiver Michael Bandy, long snapper Luke Basso, cornerback Sean Fresch, defensive back Ricardo Hallman, tackle Reid Holskey, tight end Justin Joly, wide receiver Kolbe Katsis, wide receiver Dane Key, wide receiver Joseph Manjack, outside linebacker Dasan McCullough, nose tackle Jordan Miller, tackle Tyler Miller, linebacker Red Murdock, offensive lineman Gavin Ortega, safety Parker Robertson, wide receiver Cameron Ross, wide receiver Kyrese Rowan, running back Cody Schrader, safety Miles Scott, outside linebacker Ron Stone Jr., cornerback Reese Taylor, outside linebacker Johnny Walker Jr., defensive tackle Kristian Williams and inside linebacker Taurean York. The Broncos also designated linebacker Drew Sanders as waived/injured. The Broncos released the following vested veterans: long snapper Mitchell Fraboni, tight end Lucas Krull, fullback Adam Prentice, tackle Foster Sarell, center Lecitus Smith, and guard Calvin Throckmorton. Also, the Broncos placed tackle Frank Crum and tight end Caleb Lohner on injured reserve, with a designation to return. Guard Nick Gargiulo was placed on the reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list. As expected, linebacker Jonathon Cooper was placed on the Commissioner Exempt list

Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports reports that Denver Broncos tight end Evan Engram is having a day in training camp practice on Friday, as he's been targeted multiple times with multiple catches during team drills, including a 50-yard bomb from quarterback Jarrett Stidham. Stevens adds that Davis Webb as the team's new play-caller "seems to be benefiting him a ton." Stevens added that Engram can "definitely" be a big part of the offense this year. The Athletic's Nick Kosmider writes that Engram has been "the standout" during the team's first 11-on-11 period in camp. The 31-year-old veteran TE also had a strong showing during mandatory minicamp last month, perhaps setting himself up to be a sleeper at the position in fantasy football drafts in 2026. Engram was a disappointment last year in his first year in Denver after head coach Sean Payton talked him up all offseason, ultimately finishing with a 50-461-1 line in 16 regular-season games. The Broncos have receiver Jaylen Waddle now, though, which could totally transform their offense and open up space for Engram to operate. RotoBaller has Engram ranked as only the TE34, but if he continues to impress during camp and gain the trust of Webb as a play-caller, his ADP could rise quickly as a TE2
Jaleel McLaughlin had his production drop in 2025. Now you add another back to the mix and his status is iffy at best
The most interesting group to watch through training camp for me is going to be the running back room. The running game for the Broncos last season was largely ineffective once J.K. Dobbins was injured. This Broncos offense with an actual functioning running game would have won a Super Bowl last season. So most of us in Broncos Country are licking our chops. While the Broncos didn’t take huge steps to shake up the roster, I really like what they did this offseason for two reasons. Dobbins is probably the poster boy for the term “injury-prone.” I absolutely can not argue at all with the Broncos bringing him back. He’s nothing if not productive on the field of play. He averaged 5 yards per carry for the team last year and made the offense look great when he was out there. If any team is going to be able to get an injury-prone player right, it is the Denver Broncos. Beau Lowery runs an excellent ship for the health and conditioning staff of the Broncos. Dobbins has the right mindset, and the Broncos have a great staff that will help him stay as healthy as possible in 2026. My favorite move of the offseason was drafting Jonah Coleman. He’s got the goods to turn into a #1 RB in the NFL. He’s also a multi-faceted back like Dobbins who can run inside, outside, pass protect, and catch out of the backfield. Plan #1 for the Broncos may be for Dobbins to get right and stay right. If that doesn’t work out, they have plan #2 ready to go in Jonah Coleman. We know Dobbins, Coleman, and R.J. Harvey are locks on this roster. But that means the fighting is going to be heavy for Jaleel McLaughlin , Tyler Badie , and Cody Schrader . I also wouldn’t put it past the Broncos to be scouting the waiver wire as training camp moves along. I think of these three guys, Tyler Badie is a lock. McLaughlin has yet to show he’s anything other than a good change-of-pace running option lacking pass blocking and catching consistency. Cody Schrader looks like a long shot in my eyes to make the squad in the first place (though he’s likely a shoe-in for the practice squad). Jonah Coleman to be involved in committee backfield in Denver
Tyler Badie is competing for a running back spot on the Denver Broncos' final 53-man roster. Despite the additions of RJ Harvey, Jonah Coleman, and J.K. Dobbins, Badie's proficiency in pass protection, which saw him play significant special teams snaps last season, could earn him a place on the team. However, with limited roster spots and competition from Jaleel McLaughlin, his role remains uncertain
After a couple productive seasons in a depth role to begin his career, McLaughlin fell out of the Broncos' rotation to begin 2025. The undrafted back out of Youngstown State saw action in only two games prior to Denver's Week 12 bye and was on the field for just 14 offensive snaps. McLaughlin found himself back in the mix down the stretch with J.K. Dobbins on the shelf, but he remained firmly behind RJ Harvey in the pecking order for touches. All three RBs are back with the Broncos in 2026, as well as Tyler Badie, and Jonah Coleman was added with a fourth-round pick to further crowd the picture. McLaughlin has some utility as a pass-catcher and change-of-pace option, but he lacks plus physical traits and last year's usage isn't promising. It might take multiple injuries ahead of him on the depth chart for McLaughlin to regain a prominent spot in the offense
Drops: Jaleel McLaughlin
The Denver Broncos have signed fourth-round draft pick Jonah Coleman, a running back who recorded 758 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns in his final season at Washington. He will compete for a spot on the depth chart with other returning backs
Although the Denver Broncos already have second-year running back RJ Harvey and veteran J.K. Dobbins, they selected former University of Washington RB Jonah Coleman in the fourth round (108th overall) in this year's NFL draft. The 5-foot-8, 220-pounder is a bowling ball as a power back who finished with 1,811 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns on 349 carries in two seasons with the Huskies in his final two collegiate campaigns, adding 54 catches for 531 yards and two touchdowns. While Coleman will give the Broncos some toughness between the tackles, especially in short-yardage and goal-line situations, he lacks breakaway, big-play speed. If the 22-year-old develops as a pass-catcher, he could quickly surpass Harvey as a dual-threat option out of the backfield, and he'll provide needed depth behind the injury-prone Dobbins in 2026. Coleman will most likely enter his rookie season as the RB3 with the Broncos, battling Jaleel McLaughlin and Tyler Badie for a complementary role. Dynasty managers will need to be patient, but in the long-term, Coleman has plenty of upside with a Broncos organization that is desperately looking to become more efficient and tough on the ground. He's ranked as the No. 28 dynasty RB at RotoBaller going into his first year in the NFL
The Denver Broncos have released their 2026 schedule, featuring key matchups at Empower Field at Mile High. Quarterback Bo Nix and the team aim to build on last season's success and make a third consecutive playoff appearance, with notable home games against the Rams, Seahawks, Chiefs, Bills, and Chargers. General Manager George Paton has also bolstered the roster by acquiring wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and re-signing players like J.K. Dobbins and Alex Singleton
