Steelers to sign WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling to practice squad
The Steelers are re-signing veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mike DeFabo of TheAthletic.com reports. Valdes-Scantling, 31, will join the practice squad. The Chargers released Valdes-Scantling over the weekend. In five games with the Steelers last season, Valdes-Scantling caught 10 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. The Packers drafted him in 2018, Mike McCarthy’s final season in Green Bay, and Valdes-Scantling played four seasons with Aaron Rodgers. Valdes-Scantling caught 123 passes for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns in his time with Rodgers there. The Steelers are without three of their top five wideouts. Michael Pittman Jr. (foot) is on injured reserve until at least Week 10; Roman Wilson (finger) is on injured reserve until at least Week 11; and Ben Skowronek is dealing with a calf injury

Darnell Washington Steps Up as Steelers' Top Tight End on Sunday
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Darnell Washington caught four of his six targets for 25 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's Week 6 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Steelers have dealt with injuries to wide receivers Michael Pittman Jr. (foot) and Roman Wilson (finger), and many of their vacated targets have been distributed among the tight end position. Pat Freiermuth was the primary beneficiary over the previous two weeks with eight catches and three touchdowns during that span, but it was Washington's turn to produce this week. He now has two touchdowns over the last three weeks, and he has scored at least 9.0 PPR points in three of his last four games. His usage is tough to predict with Freiermuth also in the mix, but at the very least, Washington should generate some streaming interest in 14+ team leagues going forward

Wilson (finger) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Wilson already had been ruled out for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, but the move to IR means that the third-year pro will be required to miss at least four games. Since the Steelers are on a bye for Week 9, the earliest that Wilson can return is Week 11 against the Eagles on Sunday, Nov. 22. He joins Michael Pittman (foot) on injured reserve, which leaves rookie second-rounder Germie Bernard as the Steelers' WR2 behind DK Metcalf for the next few weeks

DK Metcalf is questionable for Sunday after missing practice with an illness
Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf’s status for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers is in some doubt. Metcalf did not practice on Friday due to an illness and the Steelers listed him as questionable to play on their final injury report of Week 6. Metcalf has 19 catches for 225 yards on the season. The change in status comes at a time when the Steelers are already thin at receiver. Roman Wilson (finger) and Ben Skowronek (calf) were ruled out earlier this week and Michael Pittman Jr. is on injured reserve. Metcalf’s illness means rookies Germie Bernard and Kaden Wetjen are the only healthy wideouts on the 53-man roster. The Steelers also listed defensive tackle Keeanu Benton (ankle), cornerback Jamel Dean (ankle), running back Rico Dowdle (toe), and cornerback Jalen Ramsey (wrist) as questionable. Benton and Dowdle were both full participants in Friday’s practice. Safety DeShon Elliott (knee) will not be activated from injured reserve for Sunday’s game

Aaron Rodgers Remains on Fantasy Radar in Week 6
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has thrown three touchdown passes in three straight games and will look to maintain that streak in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa Bay has been solid defensively so far this season, holding opposing quarterbacks to the ninth-fewest fantasy points per contest. The Buccaneers are also one of just seven teams allowing fewer than 300 yards of offense per game through five weeks. Given the difficult matchup and the fact that Pittsburgh is thin at wide receiver, with Michael Pittman Jr. (foot), Roman Wilson (finger), and Ben Skowronek (calf) all inactive, Rodgers isn't necessarily set up for success in this one. Nonetheless, Tampa Bay has been significantly tougher against the run, so it would not be surprising to see Rodgers attempt 35-plus passes for the fourth time this year. The health of DK Metcalf (illness) will be worth monitoring heading into Sunday, but assuming he plays, Rodgers should be viewed as a viable streaming option and high-end QB2 in Week 6

The Steelers are heading into Week 6 short on healthy wide receivers. Michael Pittman is on injured reserve and the team is set to be without Roman Wilson and Ben Skowronek as well when they take the field in Tampa this Sunday. That leaves three wideouts on the active roster, although rookie Kaden Wetjen has yet to play an offensive snap yet this season. The team has three more wideouts on the practice squad and quarterback Aaron Rodgers expressed his faith in Brandon Smith, Brandon Johnson, and Isaiah Hodgins while discussing the team’s options on Wednesday. “I have a lot of trust in those guys,” Rodgers said, via the team’s website. “I’ve always been a fan of Brandon Johnson; he had his locker right next to mine last year and we had some great conversations. He’s played and played well when he’s gotten opportunities. Obviously, I know B. Smith from New York and I’m a big believer in him. And then Isaiah was here with us last year, then went to New York and made a bunch of plays. I like those guys a lot.” The Steelers’ ability to weather the injuries should be helped by how Rodgers uses all of the available targets. Running back Jaylen Warren and tight end Pat Freiermuth are tied with DK Metcalf for the team lead in catches while tight end Darnell Washington has also been used frequently in the passing game
