Five NFL teams we're not talking about enough: Seahawks under the radar again?
In mid-February, one team wins the Super Bowl and becomes a champion. And then, seemingly within a few days, everyone moves on. Within a month, we start declaring "offseason champions." This team hired a new, highly sought-after coach? Offseason champion. This team filled major holes in free agency? Offseason champion. This team crushed the draft (even though we've never seen a single player play a single down in the NFL )? Offseason champion. Sometimes the teams that are the quietest, though, are the ones making the greatest strides toward becoming an actual football champion. And that's the goal, right? Last year, the Seahawks were the perfect example. They traded away Geno Smith and signed Sam Darnold , a move most felt lukewarm (at best) about. They traded away DK Metcalf and released Tyler Lockett , their biggest-name offensive stars of late. Their "big" outside signings were Cooper Kupp and DeMarcus Lawrence , and their biggest retention was Ernest Jones . Offseason champions? Hardly. Only four of our 15 staffers picked Seattle to even make the playoffs last year . So how can we course correct this year? How can we find great values? Here are five teams that haven't made a ton of noise this offseason but could make plenty when the results actually matter. (Odds via DraftKings ) At +1100, the Seahawks are tied for the longest odds to win the Super Bowl by any reigning champ in the last eight seasons. It's not that hard to see why. The Seahawks lost Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III in free agency and saw several other key contributors walk, too. They also lost offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak to the Raiders ' coaching job. But, with the exception of them being on "Hard Knocks," they're not getting much buzz. That's a mistake. Last year wasn't just some lucky run. The Seahawks went 14-3, winning not only the competitive NFC West, but earning the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Their three losses were by a combined nine points. They bulldozed two of their three playoff opponents, including the Patriots in the Super Bowl. DVOA, a metric that adjusts for opponent strength, says the 2025 Seahawks were the third-best Super Bowl champion ever . There's too much being made about the uncertainty -- at offensive coordinator, at running back, etc. It's not as if Kubiak had been overly successful before coming to Seattle; Mike Macdonald deserves the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his hires. And while Seattle will miss Walker's explosiveness, Seattle only ranked 28th in rushing success rate last year. Macdonald is terrific. He was No. 2 in our coach rankings and unanimous No. 1 in our defensive play caller rankings . The defense should once again be excellent. Devon Witherspoon is a top-five cornerback, the interior defensive line duo of Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy II is the best in the NFL, and Jones was an All-Pro last year. Safety Nick Emmanwori is an emerging star. The Seahawks are just fine not generating a lot of headlines while generating a lot of wins. On Dec. 7, the Packers were 9-3-1 and had won four straight games entering a showdown with the Broncos . Green Bay ranked in the top five in several defensive categories, including yards per play, yards per pass attempt and explosive play rate. Then things fell apart. Leading in the third quarter, Micah Parsons tore his ACL. Green Bay lost that game and its next three regular-season games, and then they blew a 21-3 lead against the Bears in the wild card game. The defense completely fell apart without Parsons (and, it should be noted, several other key players), and the offense never quite reached the heights it sometimes looked like it could. It seems like it's said every year, but perhaps this is actually the year the offense becomes one of the league's best. Jordan Love has three talented, young receivers: Christian Watson and Jayden Reed both got extensions this offseason, and Matthew Golden is a strong second-year breakout candidate. The 2025 Seahawks were not in the Super Bowl conversation heading into the season at +6000, with the loss of DK Metcalf leading to questions about the ceiling of the offense and the move to Sam Darnold at quarterback causing much of the same. But not only did the team's young defense go from being solidly above average to one of the best units in the league, but the offense enjoyed nearly as much success as Darnold, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak proved the doubters wrong. The Seahawks won a close NFC Championship Game against the division rival Rams and a not-so-close Super Bowl against the AFC champion Patriots, but despite their brilliance in 2025, they remain in the shadow of the Rams in 2026 thanks in part to the Myles Garrett trade, which made Los Angeles even bigger Super Bowl favorites. We're taking a look at everything you need to know before making Seattle Seahawks futures bets below, including odds, trends, 2026 schedule, offseason changes and more before sharing our preseason betting strategy for the team. While the Rams' Garrett trade didn't lead to any initial movement on Seattle's win total on June 1, they did become a longer shot to win the division (+160 to +196), conference (+500 to +570) and Super Bowl (+1000 to +1100). That's with the Seahawks coming off a season where they had a top-three scoring offense for the first time since 2005 and their best point differential ever (though not on a per-game basis due to the 17-game schedule). Their win total eventually saw a bit of movement to the Under as their division and conference odds continued to climb. Mike Macdonald has now beat the team's win total by multiple games in each of his first two seasons, which is becoming a consistent trend for Seattle. Its defense hadn't finished top 10 in scoring before leading the league last year, while the Seahawks had a top-three scoring offense for just the second time ever. The Seahawks haven't had a double-digit win total since 2017, when they were coming off five straight trips to the playoffs but missed the postseason for the first time with Russell Wilson under center. Let's start with the passing offense, which finished second in yards per play but 28th in interception rate as Darnold threw 14 picks while the only pass from Cooper Kupp all year also ended in an interception. The offense ranked 25th in yards per rush and was average or worse in situations like third down and the red zone. The defense didn't have any nits to pick, finishing top two in yards per play against both the run and pass as well as No. 1 in third down success rate and second in goal to go situations. While Kenneth Walker III is a big loss, perhaps the toughest departure to overcome will be Klint Kubiak, who left his successful run as offensive coordinator to take a head coaching position. New OC Brian Fleury comes from San Francisco with a background coaching tight ends. He'll get a mostly intact unit to lead, with first-round pick Jadarian Price and free-agent acquisition Emanuel Wilson replacing Walker and likely Zach Charbonnet at the top of the depth chart as the latter recovers from a torn ACL suffered in the Divisional Round in January. The defense will also have to replace a few key departures, most notably in the secondary with Riq Woolen and Coby Bryant, and the Seahawks followed the Price pick with two Day 2 defenders to help in the secondary. Pittsburgh Steelers rookie wide receiver Germie Bernard got a series with the first-team offense on Friday at training camp, and he was flexed into the backfield and then back out into the slot on one rep, according to Nick Farabaugh of Penn Live. It suggests that the 22-year-old former second-rounder from the University of Alabama could be moved around as somewhat of a gadget player in his first year in the NFL in head coach Mike McCarthy's offense in 2026. Bernard will primarily be battling veteran Roman Wilson for the WR3 role in Pittsburgh in his first year in the league, but Wilson could have the advantage due to his experience and strong chemistry with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He never put up elite receiving numbers in college, which could make him a bit of a boom-or-bust prospect for fantasy managers in dynasty/keeper leagues. Bernard has sneaky explosiveness. Pittsburgh's offense should be a bit more fantasy-friendly under McCarthy, but Bernard will most likely struggle for regular snaps in his first year in the NFL as long as all of DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., and Wilson stay healthy
