Sione Vaki's performance vs. the Vikings has earned him the trust of the Detroit Lions
The Vikings are undefeated no more. Despite losing several players on defense — including linebacker Jack Campbell — the Lions were able to beat the Vikings 19-15 behind an outstanding performance from running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Gibbs put the Lions ahead with a 30-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter. He finished the game with 153 yards on 23 carries, plus two catches for 15 yards. Sione Vaki was also valuable in the run game, taking 11 carries for 65 yards. Goff finished 18-of-25 for 176 yards with a touchdown and an interception. On the other side, Kyler Murray had a middling day, going 17-of-29 for 210 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. His best throws of the day came on a drive in the fourth quarter, with a 51-yard bomb to Jordan Addison leading to an 8-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Hockenson. But Murray was also the team’s leading rusher with 35 yards on four attempts, signaling the ineffectiveness of the run game. Murray and the Vikings’ offense continued to struggle to get the ball to Justin Jefferson, who had just five catches for 33 yards with a touchdown on nine targets. The Fox broadcast showed Jefferson expressing some frustration on the sideline toward the end of the game. Of the several injuries suffered by the Lions’ defense, linebacker Jack Campbell’s was the most concerning. Campbell was taken off the field immobilized on a backboard and transported to a local hospital to evaluate a neck injury after going down in the second half. With the win, the Lions improve to 5-2 after consecutive divisional wins. The club will be on the road to face the Dolphins in Week 9. Minnesota falls to 6-1 with its first loss of the season. The Vikings will be at home to face the Bills on Monday night next week
Vaki rushed 11 times for 65 yards in Sunday's 19-15 win over the Vikings. He added one catch for five yards on one target. With Jared Goff struggling against the Vikings' blitz-heavy defense, the Lions dished out 34 carries to Jahmyr Gibbs and Vaki. It was Vaki's most extensive action of the season, and coach Dan Campbell said afterward that the Lions' RB2 took a "big step" and earned a lot of trust with his performance, according to Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News. It's unclear if that will translate to more opportunities, but it's clear Vaki has cemented himself as Gibbs' backup and a quality bench stash in fantasy leagues
Vaki posts first 60+ yard game, but remains a low‑tier RB for most formats

Sione Vaki's workload unlikely to increase in Week 8 due to Jahmyr Gibbs' return to health and the strong Vikings defense

Detroit Lions running back Sione Vaki is currently the clear RB2 but has been largely overshadowed by Jahmyr Gibbs. While Vaki is a worthy stash in deeper leagues as a handcuff, he should not be started in Week 7 due to Gibbs's continued dominance
Drops: Sione Vaki
Sione Vaki of the Detroit Lions has recorded 92 scrimmage yards on 13 touches across four games in 2026. Despite a season-high seven touches in Week 3, he saw limited action in Week 4. With Jahmyr Gibbs ahead of him on the depth chart and healthy, Vaki is unlikely to get a fantasy-relevant workload in Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals' defensive struggles against the pass might also reduce rushing volume. Vaki is best viewed as a handcuff option rather than a Week 5 starter

Sione Vaki's production upside is limited due to Jahmyr Gibbs' dominance, but he may see more opportunities in Week 4

Sione Vaki may not be a reliable fantasy option beyond being a stash for deep leagues

Detroit Lions running back Sione Vaki is not getting enough touches to help fantasy lineups, but his spot in the backfield suddenly matters a lot more. Vaki has three carries for 14 yards and two catches for 24 yards through two games, including 20 total yards on two touches against Buffalo. Detroit now lists him directly behind Jahmyr Gibbs on the depth chart, with Jacob Saylors third. Isiah Pacheco (back) is also expected to miss significant time after undergoing surgery, so this does not look like a temporary one-week opening. Gibbs is still handling a massive share of the backfield work, which leaves Vaki without much standalone value. The appeal is what happens if Gibbs ever misses time. RotoBaller includes Vaki among its high-upside handcuffs and recommends him in 14-team PPR leagues. He is a deep bench stash right now, but the path to a much larger role is clearer than his five touches through two games would suggest
Sione Vaki rushed the ball one time for seven yards and caught one pass for 13 yards in Thursday's 41-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Vaki continues to make minimal impact on Detroit's offense. He has squarely established himself as the RB2 behind Jahmyr Gibbs, but that role hasn't furnished him with many opportunities over the first two weeks of the season. He remains nothing more than a mid-tier handcuff option for the foreseeable future

Detroit Lions running back Sione Vaki emerged as his team's RB2 in Week 1, playing 29% of Detroit's offensive snaps in its overtime win over the New Orleans Saints. With Lions running back Isiah Pacheco (back, knee) expected to miss three-plus months after undergoing back surgery, Vaki could have an extended runway as the primary backup to star Lions back Jahmyr Gibbs. However, Vaki still projects to play a limited role on offense, as he recorded two carries for seven yards and one catch for 11 yards in Week 1. With Gibbs fully healthy heading into Detroit's matchup against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football, RotoBaller ranks Vaki as the RB68 in Week 2. Deeper-league managers may want to consider stashing Vaki off the waiver wire for his handcuff appeal, but he's not worthy of starting consideration against the Bills
