Every year around this time, the NFL sees veterans pick new homes. There are plenty of notable wide receivers still out on the market. Tyreek Hill , Stefon Diggs , DeAndre Hopkins and Keenan Allen are still free agents, as is former Pro Bowler Deebo Samuel . In his one season with the Washington Commanders , Samuel caught 72 passes for 727 yards and five touchdowns. Those 727 yards receiving led the team, as fellow wide receiver Terry McLaurin and quarterback Jayden Daniels missed extensive time due to injuries. Maybe Samuel, at 30 years old, is no longer a dynamic threat capable of being named First Team All-Pro, but he's clearly still a weapon that can help any offense. Samuel recently posted a video on his YouTube page and said that this time has been hard for him. He's still waiting for that right opportunity to pop up -- something he's "more than ready" for. "I'm going on Year 8 … I still feel like I got a lot, at least like three, four good years left," Samuel said. "It's kind of been tough, not even going to lie to you. All the free agency stuff going on, waking up in the morning, looking at your phone, seeing if your agent hit you and was like, 'This team is interested,' or things along those lines. And it's been kind of like a roller coaster. Been through a lot, not just ball. With me and how I play this game it's just like no matter what I'm going through, no matter what I'm doing, if I'm able to perform, I'm going to go out there and put it on the line for my team." Where could Samuel sign in the near future? Let's take a look at a few options. This was a logical landing spot floated by CBS Sports analyst JP Acosta . The Las Vegas Raiders are one of the most-improved teams on paper. They added Kirk Cousins and Fernando Mendoza to the quarterback room, then Kwity Paye , Quay Walker , Nakobe Dean , Taron Johnson and Treydan Stukes on defense. Headlined by Tre Tucker , Jalen Nailor , Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton Jr , receiver may still be an area of weakness. Pairing a veteran slot weapon like Samuel with a veteran signal-caller like Cousins makes sense. As it stands, Brock Bowers is the only offensive weapon that can be relied on in Sin City. The Indianapolis Colts looked like the best team in football for the first few weeks of the season with the motivated Daniel Jones under center and electric Jonathan Taylor toting the rock. However, this wide receiving group could use some help. The Colts re-signed Alec Pierce with the largest contract in free-agency history for a wide receiver, but traded Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers . As it stands, Pierce, Josh Downs and Ashton Dulin are expected to be the starting wideouts. Downs has played primarily in the slot, but coach Shane Steichen admitted his team would look to play him more on the outside. Could that open the door for a veteran slot player? This landing spot was recommended by CBS Sports' Mike Renner. Some would claim the Cincinnati Bengals have one of the best wide receiving corps in the NFL with Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins , but apart from those two pass-catchers, it's questionable. Andrei Iosivas is the No. 3, followed by players like Mitchell Tinsley , Charlie Jones and the rookie Colbie Young . Imagine Joe Burrow operating out of 11 personnel with Chase, Higgins and then Samuel running around in the slot. If the San Francisco 49ers have no interest in bringing Samuel back, maybe he could sign with their chief rival in the Los Angeles Rams . Sean McVay has Puka Nacua and Davante Adams catching passes from reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford , but that didn't stop the Rams from showing interest in A.J. Brown this offseason. Samuel wouldn't serve as a major pillar for one of the best offenses in the NFL, but the perfect versatile playmaker to be sprinkled in on a well-timed reverse or third-and-short. Free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins believes he still has much to offer a franchise in need of help ahead of the NFL's 2026 season, but he's taking his time with figuring out potential suitors . At his best, Hopkins was world-class at his position after eclipsing 1,300 yards receiving and at least 11 touchdowns in three of his first six seasons with the Houston Texans . Stops with four different teams since, including last year's reserve role in Baltimore, leaves his level of desirability considerably lower than it once was, however. Heading into his 14th NFL season, Hopkins wants teams to know he's still anxious to perform and recognizes his role. "I still got a lot ball left," Hopkins said this week. "But it's not a situation I'm sitting here trying to force or go out and be the regular-season superstar because that's for the young guys, man. That's for the people that they want to develop and give those contracts for the future. "I know in my position, I'm a utility guy. I'm a special situation kind of guy. I can go out there and beat anybody one on one at any time, but as of lately, I've been a third-down guy. I wasn't used in the red zone last year. But (on) third down, they're gonna put D-Hop in, they're gonna come to me. I don't think that'll change anytime soon." "I would love to play for a competitor if that time came," Hopkins said, "but I'm not in no rush to go out and be a regular-season superstar because for me, I'm not getting a contract extension." Even at 34, Hopkins still has something plenty of NFL contenders covet entering the 2026 season: reliability. He's no longer the explosive, game-breaking receiver who routinely torched secondaries during his All-Pro prime, but he remains one of the league's smartest route runners with an understanding of leverage that few wideouts possess. For a playoff-caliber team needing another veteran weapon, Hopkins makes perfect sense. He's capable of moving the chains on third down and serving as a dependable security blanket for a young quarterback or an experienced passer chasing a championship. Defenses still have to account for him because of his physicality at the catch point and ability to create separation with technique rather than pure speed. The numbers may never resemble the peak seasons that made him one of the NFL's premier receivers, but Hopkins has plenty of productive football left. In the right offense, where he's asked to complement rather than carry a passing attack, he can still deliver 50-plus catches, several touchdown grabs and the kind of veteran leadership every contender values once the calendar turns to January. The Cincinnati Bengals , Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs are three potential fits for Hopkins , all of which have been discussed by the former first-round pick at some point this offseason. Joe Burrow is one quarterback Hopkins said he would enjoy playing with during an interview with Sports Illustrated . In Minnesota, Hopkins would reunite with former Arizona Cardinals teammate Kyler Murray . The pair played three seasons together from 2020-22, hooking up 17 times for touchdowns over that stretch. "Kyler, that's my bro, man. Kyler's like family," Hopkins said in March . "I talked to Kyler throughout the year last year. I talked to Kyler after his situation in Arizona. Kyler's like family, man. I would always embrace that journey with him. He's on a one-year deal, if I'm not mistaken. Whatever I can do for someone like that -- if Kyler needed me, if the Vikings need me, they know I'll be there. Veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has shared some thoughts about quarterbacks he’d like to play with this offseason, but he remains a free agent weeks before training camps open around the league. That’s not a position that seems to bother him. During an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Hopkins said that he still has “a lot ball left” but isn’t trying to “force” anything with a signing because his eyes are not on making the kind of regular season plays that younger players make to establish themselves. “Going into year 14, I would love to play for a competitor if that time came,” Hopkins said. “I’m not in no rush to go out and be a regular-season superstar because for me, I’m not getting a contract extension.” Hopkins averaged 15 yards a catch on 22 receptions with the Ravens last season and called himself a “special situation kind of guy” at this point in his career. How Cowboys fared against their 2026 opponents last time they played each team
We have known the 2026 Dallas Cowboys schedule for some time now, long enough to draw legitimate pros and cons from what it has in store for the team. Looking forward is a lot of fun. Everything is unknown. The possibilities are endless. Anything is possible. Looking backwards isn’t representative of anything necessarily. It can be helpful and offer some sense of guidance, but who anybody was in the past is in no way representative of who they will be in the future. In the interest of discussion, today we are looking at how the Cowboys fared against each of their opponents last time they faced them. For the record we are going to be specific here. By that I mean that if the Cowboys are hosting or visiting a team then the result listed will be the last time they hosted or visited the team in question. As an example the Cowboys will visit the Houston Texans in 2026, so for the purposes of this conversation we are interested in when they did so back in 2018 and not when they last hosted them in 2024. at NYG (Loss, 34-17): This was the final game of the regular season last year when both teams were mathematically eliminated. It marked Dak Prescott’s first loss, it does count in a technical sense, against the Giants since his rookie season. WAS (Win, 44-22): Last season was a disaster on many levels, but this was certainly a bright spot. BAL (Loss, 28-25): The Ravens visited the Cowboys early in 2024 and Derrick Henry , fresh into his Ravens tenure, absolutely destroyed the Cowboys and all of the narratives around Dallas not being interested in him the offseason prior were thrust center stage. at HOU (Loss, 19-16): This happened early in the 2018 season and was played on a Sunday night. Dallas and Houston actually went to overtime and DeAndre Hopkins had his way with the defense. Many thought it might mark the end of the Jason Garrett era, but the Amari Cooper trade shortly after saved the season. TB (Win, 26-24): Dallas hosted the Buccaneers on a Sunday night late in 2024. The win helped keep very slim hope alive that the season could be salvaged, but as we know it certainly could not. at GB (Loss, 31-28): It has been four years since the Cowboys last visited Lambeau Field and the last time they did was wild as it marked Mike McCarthy’s return there. This time will mark a visit against Micah Parsons … somehow there are always narratives between these two groups. at PHI (Loss, 24-20): This was the season-opener last year when the Cowboys gave it all they had and just couldn’t grab the win. ARI (Loss, 27-17): It felt much worse than this when the Cardinals destroyed the Cowboys on a Monday night right before the bye last season. at IND (Loss, 23-0): The Cowboys were putting things together late in 2018 and then got skunked in Indianapolis . I was actually at this game. They turned it around and won the NFC East a week later, though. SF (Loss, 23-17 in Wild Card Round): This is the only playoff game on this list, but it was the last time that the 49ers were in town. Jimmy Garoppolo . The quarterback draw. Good times. TEN (Loss, 28-14): This was a unique game as it marked a lot of things. It was Amari Cooper’s debut with the team, but it took place on a Monday night in 2018 which meant that Jason Witten was on the call. PHI (Win, 24-21): Who could forget the Eagles blowing a 21-0 lead? at SEA (Loss, 38-31): The last Dallas visit to Seattle was in 2020 when the Cowboys offense did all they could and the horrible defense just let them down. Brian Schottenheimer was there, by the way! Just on the Seattle side of things. at LAR (Win, 22-10): The Cowboys went to Los Angeles to play the Rams early in 2022 and did so with Dak Prescott sidelined. It was one of the more impressive wins of the Mike McCarthy era as it showed how the team could rally around Cooper Rush . In 2025, rookie Ashton Jeanty had the second-lowest yards before contact on average, largely due to the offensive line. Injuries didn’t help, with star left tackle Kolton Miller out for the majority of the season and Jackson Powers-Johnson on IR. Not only will Las Vegas have both return healthy in 2026, but the Raiders added All-Pro center Tyler Linderbaum , a dominant force in the run game, as well as multiple guards via free agency and the NFL Draft. There was no room to run for the explosive rookie, but help has arrived. Justin Jefferson doesn’t need Tom Brady at quarterback; he just needs serviceable. Carson Wentz is not the ideal option for your star fantasy WR, and yet, Jefferson averaged 95 receiving YPG in his five starts, which would have ranked third among wideouts. Kyler Murray may not be everyone’s favorite, but he is no doubt an upgrade from Jefferson’s 2025 QB play as a proven option for fantasy weapons. 2026 Free Agency Winners and Losers: Running Backs & Wide Receivers
The 2025 season ended a little over a month ago, but the 2026 season is already officially underway. And with that comes one of the best parts of the offseason: free agency. While much has remained the same for the elite players, we’ve already seen a shake-up across the fantasy landscape, mainly among the RB2/3s and WR2/3s tiers. This is the time of the year when dynasty values can change in a hurry based on where some players sign — or who the teams bring in to compete with others. That’s what makes this stretch of the offseason so fun. We’re reacting to the news and contract figures while trying to figure out what actually matters for fantasy football. Who’s set to take a leap next season? Which players took a hit because of a trade or a rough landing spot? We’re starting with the running backs and wide receivers in this article; here are the biggest winners and losers from free agency so far. Let’s get the obvious one out of the way, shall we? What a landing spot for the reigning Super Bowl MVP. Kenneth Walker cashes in after a brilliant playoff run, getting a three-year deal worth up to $43.05 million and $28.7 million guaranteed. With that kind of moola, Walker should get all the touches he can handle. The Chiefs will likely lean on him early in the season as Patrick Mahomes works his way back from a torn ACL. Kenneth Walker ‘s 2025 EPX Over the final six weeks of 2025, including the playoffs, the 25-year-old former Michigan State Spartan played like a man possessed. He racked up 771 total yards, caught 18 passes, and scored five touchdowns. Now, he’s finally free of Zach Charbonnet and gets to operate as the lead back in Andy Reid’s offense. As long as the workload matches the contract, Walker will be an RB1 for fantasy purposes. The veteran back decided to leave his long-time teammate, Trevor Lawrence — whom he’s played with since 2018 at Clemson — and return to his home state of Louisiana. Already 27 years old, I assumed Travis Etienne would get a modest two- or three-year deal. Instead, the Saints forked over a four-year, $52 million contract. Quite the commitment, one that will boost his dynasty stock in the short-term. Last year, Etienne totaled 1,399 yards and scored a career-best 13 times, good for 14.9 fantasy points per game (RB13). Now he steps in as the main back in Kellen Moore ‘s fast-paced offense, gets to play his home games indoors, and faces NFC South defenses six times a year. Big come-up for Etienne, who will be a high-end RB2 with potential for more in fantasy going forward. With Etienne leaving town, Bhayshul Tuten just became the most important guy in Jacksonville’s RB room…for now. While the Jaguars avoided the bigger names in free agency, they did sign Chris Rodriguez Jr. to a two-year contract. Rodriguez is a bigger back, who played for Jacksonville head coach Liam Coen at Kentucky — he should be involved to a degree. How much? We’ll find out. Regardless, the arrow is pointing up for Tuten, who averaged 0.91 fantasy points per opportunity (RB16) and scored seven touchdowns as a rookie. If he gets the majority of the work in Coen’s run game next year, he could pay major dividends. Right now, Tuten’s current average draft position (ADP) is RB30 on FFPC and RB36 on Underdog. Each is an appealing price if his role holds for 2026. It took all of about 90 seconds after free agency started for Adam Schefter to report that Alec Pierce was getting the largest free-agent WR contract in NFL history and returning to the Colts.
