The New York Giants have signed veteran wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, adding depth to their receiving corps after injuries and other departures. Smith-Schuster joins Odell Beckham Jr. and Braxton Berrios on the team's revamped depth chart. He brings nine years of experience and a past 1,000-yard season to the Giants
Odell Beckham Jr. is getting a second shot with the organization with which he rose to stardom. The three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver is signing a contract with the New York Giants on June 1, according to multiple reports. Beckham, 33, worked out for the team earlier in the day for a second time this offseason alongside fellow veterans JuJu Smith and Anthony Miller , per reports. The Giants also on June 1 signed receiver Braxton Berrios to a one-year deal to help boost a receiving corps that recently lost Gunner Olszewski to a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in an organized team activity session. Star wideout Malik Nabers also faces an unclear recovery timeline from a torn ACL and meniscus that coach John Harbaugh said was "not a simple knee injury." Beckham, 33, reunites with Harbaugh after playing under him on the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. He sat out the entire 2025 season after posting just nine catches for the Miami Dolphins in 2024. In New York, he returns to the franchise with which he became one of the league's most scintillating young stars. His flair for the dramatic – such as his signature one-handed catch against the Dallas Cowboys – extended off the field, however, to his criticism of quarterback Eli Manning , eventually leading to his March 2019 trade to the Cleveland Browns . The New York Giants have signed receiver and returner Braxton Berrios to a one-year deal, per reports . The Giants receiving corps has been hit hard by injuries, with Gunner Olszewski suffering a torn Achilles, Darius Slayton sidelined as he recovers from surgery to repair a core muscle injury, and Malik Nabers ’ ongoing recovery from ACL and meniscus surgery. The Giants held a group workout Monday morning and it seemed likely that at least one of the veteran wideouts would be a Giant by the end of the day. Berrios, 30, is a natural fit for the role vacated by the injury to Gunner Olszewski. Berrios is an undersized receiver at 5-foot-9, 185 pounds, and has made his name as a special teams ace since entering the NFL in 2018 with the New England Patriots . He only has 140 receptions for 1,360 yards and 6 touchdowns since 2019, but has been an excellent returner. He has 100 punt returns, averaging 11.3 yards per return, as well as 91 kick returns with an average of 24.9 yards per return. The question with Berrios, and why he’s still available, is his health. He’s only played in 10 games over the last two years after tearing his ACL in 2024. That the Giants signed him after a workout and physical is a good sign on that front. Per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, the team is “planning” to sign a second wide receiver on Monday. Odell Beckham Jr. , Juju Smith-Schuster , and Anthony Miller also worked out on Monday. So, Beckham remains a possibility
The New York Giants are not putting all of their veteran wide receiver eggs in the Odell Beckham Jr . basket. The Giants DID work out Beckham on Monday, as had previously been reported. Beckham was joined, though, by three other veteran wide receivers, according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post . Braxton Berrios , JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Anthony Miller also worked out for the Giants. New York has a need for veteran wide receiver help after Gunner Olszewski suffered a torn Achilles on Friday. Malik Nabers ’ availability for the beginning of the season is in question as he rehabs from a pair of surgeries to repair a torn ACL and other knee damage. Darius Slayton has missed spring workouts due to surgery for a sports hernia. Of the non-Beckham trio, Smith-Schuster might be the most intriguing name. Smith-Schuster is a nine-year veteran who spent three of the last four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs , where Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy was on the coaching staff. Smith-Schuster, 29, caught 33 passes in 17 games last season. He caught 78 passes for 933 yards for the Chiefs in 2022. Smith-Schuster has one 1,000-yard receiving season on his resume, but that was back in 2018. That season, he caught a career-high 111 passes for 1,426 yards while playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers , who selected him in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Smith-Schuster has 481 career receptions. Berrios is interesting because his skillset most closely aligns with what the Giants lost due to Olszewski’s injury. The 30-year-old seven-year veteran has been a backup wide receiver, as well as a punt and kickoff returner during his career. Berrios caught just six passes while playing in four games for the Houston Texans last season. He did not catch any in six games for the Miami Dolphins in 2024. Berrios has 140 career receptions, including a career-best 46 for the New York Jets in 2021. Berrios has averaged 11.3 yards on 109 career punt returns, and 24.9 yards on 91 career kickoff returns. Miller, 31, was a first-round pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2018 NFL Draft — when Nagy was the Bears’ head coach. Miller caught 134 passes for Nagy and the Bears in three seasons, but has only played in six NFL games with 12 receptions since the 2021 season. He also has some kickoff and punt return experience, but has done neither since 2020. Miller is familiar to Giants coach John Harbaugh because he spent the last two seasons on Baltimore ’s practice squad. Miller played in two games for Baltimore in 2024, the only two games he has played in since 2021
The Giants are holding workouts for veteran wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Braxton Berrios, along with Anthony Miller, as they deal with injuries to multiple key players at the position. Gunner Olszewski tore his Achilles, Malik Nabers is recovering from a torn ACL, and Darius Slayton had core muscle surgery
The Giants are working out veteran free agent wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Braxton Berrios, as well as Anthony Miller, due to injuries to Gunner Olszewski, Malik Nabers, and Darius Slayton. Smith-Schuster previously worked with offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, while Berrios brings returner experience
