Bears RB Kyle Monangai day-to-day with soft tissue injury
Bears running back Kyle Monangai has been out of practice since the first day of training camp and head coach Ben Johnson gave an update on his condition at a Monday press conference. Johnson said that Monangai is dealing with a soft tissue injury. He said the outlook is day-to-day for the 2025 seventh-round pick’s return to the field and that the belief is that his absence will not be a long-term one. Monangai ran 169 times for 783 yards and five touchdowns during his rookie season. He also caught 18 passes for 164 yards. D’Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson, Brittain Brown, Salvon Ahmed, and Coleman Bennett are the other running backs in Bears camp

Kyle Monangai's Injury "Status Quo"
Chicago Bears running back Kyle Monangai has missed multiple training camp practices with an undisclosed ailment, but head coach Ben Johnson does not seem overly concerned, referring to the soft tissue injury as "status quo". Monangai has been tabbed as a popular breakout candidate after flashing whenever seeing an expanded role as a rookie, averaging 153 rushing yards in the two games in which he saw more than 20 carries. His recent absence has created an opportunity for veteran Salvon Ahmed to work behind starter D'Andre Swift, who led the team with 1,087 rushing yards and nine touchdowns in 2025. Still, with Monangai sounding as if he may soon return to practice, he'll look to force more of a committee in 2026. Monangai is RotoBaller's RB35, and on standalone value alone he should be able to meet ADP expectations, while his insurance upside is what makes him an attractive pick in the later rounds of drafts

Chicago Bears Announce Several Roster Moves
On Thursday, the Chicago Bears made a handful of moves to their 90-man offseason roster. First, they officially confirmed the two veteran signings reported yesterday: running back Salvon Ahmed and safety Anthony Johnson Jr. For more on these two pickups, check out our articles from yesterday, here and here . In a corresponding roster move, the Bears waived running back Deion Hankins , who was a UDFA signing last year, but spent most of the regular season on injured reserve. The Bears also placed Tory Taylor on the Exempt/International Player list, which means he doesn’t count towards the 90-man offseason roster. Even though Taylor attended college at Iowa, he’s eligible for the exemption because his “citizenship and principal place of residence are outside the United States and Canada, and he has a maximum of two years of United States high school experience.” Every year Taylor has been in Chicago, the club has used this rule to carry a 91st player. Once the regular season comes around, the Bears will activate him from the list, and he’ll revert to the 53-man roster

He was on the practice squad of the Broncos and Colts in 2024 but did not play a regular-season game. From 2020-23 with the Dolphins, Ahmed rushed for 593 yards and five touchdowns in 38 games. Johnson, 26, entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick of the Packers in 2023. He played for the Giants in 2024 and was on the Giants' PUP list all of last season. Bears sign former Dolphins and Colts RB Salvon Ahmed
The Bears have signed veteran running back Salvon Ahmed, Jordan Schultz reported on Wednesday. Ahmed, 27, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent signing by the 49ers in 2020. He was waived in August of that year and got claimed by the Dolphins, starting the year off on the practice squad and eventually earning a promotion to the 53-man roster. As a rookie, he ran for 319 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 75 carries for an average of 4.3 yards per carry. After a productive 2020, Ahmed spent the next three seasons as a backup running back for the Dolphins. On a small sample size, he was most efficient with 0.271 EPA per carry in 2022, per PFSN’s NFL HQ . After being released in 2024, he spent a week on the Broncos ’ practice squad before he released from there, as well. The Colts brought him onto their practice squad, where he spent the remainder of 2024 before signing a futures contract at the end of the year. Heading into 2025, Ahmed suffered a season-ending ankle injury due to a hip drop tackle in training camp. He projects as a competitor for a spot on the 53-man roster. The Bears kept four running backs on their roster in 2025, and Travis Homer is no longer on the team. He’ll compete with Roschon Johnson for their third-string running back spot, but he’s likely more of a competitor for the fourth-string spot with Brittain Brown , Deion Hankins, and Coleman Bennett
