Steelers make roster moves, including activation of Joey Porter Jr. and release of multiple players
The Steelers are projecting their 2026 53-man roster, with Will Howard seemingly set to be QB2 behind Aaron Rodgers, potentially leading to a trade of Mason Rudolph. The running back room will likely feature Dowdle and Warren as the top two, with Travis Homer securing a spot due to special teams ability. At wide receiver, Metcalf, Pittman, Bernard, Skowronek, and Wetjen are considered safe, with competition for the WR4 spot between Roman Wilson and Noah Brown, and Curtis Samuel also a possibility
Homer is joining the Steelers on a one-year deal after having played almost entirely on special teams across the prior three seasons in Chicago. During his time with the Bears, Homer logged just seven total carries for 21 yards. He projects for a special teams role in Pittsburgh while also providing emergency depth behind Jaylen Warren, Rico Dowdle and Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson's roster spot is uncertain due to the additions of Rico Dowdle, Travis Homer, and Eli Heidenreich
The Bears have signed veteran running back Salvon Ahmed, Jordan Schultz reported on Wednesday. Ahmed, 27, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent signing by the 49ers in 2020. He was waived in August of that year and got claimed by the Dolphins, starting the year off on the practice squad and eventually earning a promotion to the 53-man roster. As a rookie, he ran for 319 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 75 carries for an average of 4.3 yards per carry. After a productive 2020, Ahmed spent the next three seasons as a backup running back for the Dolphins. On a small sample size, he was most efficient with 0.271 EPA per carry in 2022, per PFSN’s NFL HQ . After being released in 2024, he spent a week on the Broncos ’ practice squad before he released from there, as well. The Colts brought him onto their practice squad, where he spent the remainder of 2024 before signing a futures contract at the end of the year. Heading into 2025, Ahmed suffered a season-ending ankle injury due to a hip drop tackle in training camp. He projects as a competitor for a spot on the 53-man roster. The Bears kept four running backs on their roster in 2025, and Travis Homer is no longer on the team. He’ll compete with Roschon Johnson for their third-string running back spot, but he’s likely more of a competitor for the fourth-string spot with Brittain Brown , Deion Hankins, and Coleman Bennett
Drops: Travis Homer
Chicago Bears running back Roschon Johnson (thumb) missed two consecutive practices and has been ruled out for Sunday's Week 12 contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Johnson was added to the injury report on Thursday and hasn't been able to get on the field since. The extent of his injury is unknown, but it won't have major ramifications in fantasy football anyway. He has just two carries for 17 yards through seven games this season, remaining buried in a depth role behind veteran D'Andre Swift and rookie Kyle Monangai. Travis Homer (hamstring, knee) has also been ruled out for this week, meaning Chicago may have to activate Brittain Brown from the practice squad to fill the No. 3 running back role
