Seattle Seahawks tight end AJ Barner is not on the fantasy radar in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears. The Bears are No. 17 against opposing tight ends in fantasy, but Barner does not receive enough consistent volume to be a predictable fantasy asset. However, if you are in absolutely dire straits at tight end in a deep league, there is a chance Barner receives an extra look or two due to the absence of wide receiver Rashid Shaheed (knee) this week. Quarterback Sam Darnold could look his way in more third-down situations and short-yardage, but he would be a risky play. With wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba receiving the bulk of targets in the offense, there is little room for anyone else in fantasy. Barner plays his role within the offense very well, but that role is difficult to trust in fantasy. He should be left on waivers unless you have no other options and are counting on a potential touchdown
Barner caught four of five targets for 42 yards while adding three rushes for four yards during Sunday night's 20-3 win over the Chiefs. Barner finished second on the team in both receptions and receiving yards behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The tight end's four catches and 42 yards were his highest totals since he reeled in five passes for 69 yards in Week 3 against Washington. Additionally, Barner was able to rush for three first downs on Sunday night. On the year, the tight end has caught 19 of 29 targets for 180 yards, and he's added four carries for five yards and a touchdown over seven contests
Seattle Seahawks tight end AJ Barner is not a top 25 fantasy option in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Although the Chiefs have been solid against most positions in fantasy this season, they are 29th against tight ends, allowing 16.08 fantasy points per game. As such, if you need a desperation start and want to play matchups, Barner is a potential sleeper. However, Barner continues to see very little volume in this offense. There does exist a world in which the Seahawks attack the Chiefs' weakness and use Barner more. His run-after-catch ability is something to exploit in this game. Still, Barner has exceeded four targets only twice this season. He has also only recorded more than three catches in one game. Unless he finds the end zone (which he has only done once), those types of numbers will not get it done for fantasy. Even with the good matchup, there are likely better options on the waiver wire. Leave Barner on waivers unless you are in a very deep league
The NFL is reminding teams not to line up offside on the tush push. In a video sent to all 32 teams this week, NFL officiating and rules analyst Walt Anderson used a Seahawks tush push, which was called for offensive offside, to illustrate the type of penalty that will be called. “We have covered this before, but clubs are reminded on both sides of the ball to line up properly on these push plays,” Anderson said. Anderson showed how the Seahawks were aligned on the play, which was snapped to tight end AJ Barner for a first down but called back because of the penalty, and said one Seahawk had both his hand and helmet in the neutral zone, and another had his hand in the neutral zone. “Here, this hand is clearly offside, this head is clearly offside, as is the right hand of the tight end,” Anderson said. During the unsuccessful attempt to ban the tush push in 2025, one of the arguments against it was that it was too hard to officiate. The league is still trying to make sure everyone understands exactly what will and will not be flagged
Seattle Seahawks tight end AJ Barner (oblique) caught two passes for 13 yards in Week 1 against the New England Patriots. Barner was kept in check all night, with the Seahawks' offense struggling to move the ball at times. Barner entered the season with a path to a serious breakout after scoring six touchdowns and finishing as the TE14 in 2025. That path still exists and should begin to unfold as the Seahawks' offense finds its footing. With quarterback Sam Darnold (hip) sidelined in Week 1, it is unclear who will be under center next week. However, quarterback Drew Lock is a capable backup, and he should not affect Barner's ability to produce. For now, Barner is still best viewed as a TE. He can still emerge as the season wears on, but we will need to monitor his usage, particularly in the red zone. Expect better production when Seattle visits Arizona in Week 2

Seattle Seahawks tight end AJ Barner put together a strong camp, and he could be headed for a larger role during the 2026 season. Barner has impressed with 10 touchdowns over his two NFL seasons, and he finished last year as the overall TE14 in PPR leagues. He was able to maintain his fantasy relevance despite facing competition from Elijah Arroyo, who had second-round draft capital last year. This season, we expect Barner to get a similar amount of playing time, and that could actually lead to more volume. Now that he has established himself on offense for two years in a row, he should see his target share increase. Additionally, he should benefit from playing for new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury. Fleury was the tight ends coach in San Francisco, so he brings a strong background in the position to his new job with the Seahawks. In fact, it has already been reported by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler that Fleury plans to use a lot of two-tight-end sets in Seattle. That bodes well for Barner, who has a very strong chance to emerge as a top-12 fantasy tight end in Year 3

Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori remained limited in Monday’s practice. That doesn’t bode well for his availability for Wednesday’s season opener against the Patriots. Emmanwori did not take participate in any of the team’s open practices during camp, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times . Emmanwori is working his way back from arthroscopic surgery in July to repair his right ankle, which he initially injured in the 2025 season opener and then aggravated in a practice before Super Bowl LX. Starting safety Ty Okada’s status for Week 1 also is in question as he missed a second consecutive day. The team’s other starting safety, Julian Neal, was a full participant a second consecutive day with a quad injury. D’Anthony Bell, who re-signed to the practice squad on Saturday, started two games in Emmanwori’s third safety role a year ago when Emmanwori was out with an ankle injury. The Seahawks had only one change to their practice report from Sunday, with offensive guard Anthony Bradford (knee) upgraded to full participation. Bradford was limited on Sunday. Wide receiver Tory Horton (hamstring) and offensive tackle Josh Jones (knee) again were limited. Tight end A.J. Barner (oblique) and running back Emanuel Wilson (hamstring) remained full participants
