This article analyzes the NFL's worst quarterback rooms entering the 2026 season, providing Week 1 starting predictions. It highlights players like Daniel Jones, Anthony Richardson, Riley Leonard, and Seth Henigan as examples of teams with potentially weaker QB situations, contrasting them with top-tier talent like Patrick Mahomes and Drake Maye
Anthony Richardson hasn’t played enough football to play hardball. Despite requesting a trade from the Colts earlier this offseason, Richardson is attending voluntary OTAs as he awaits more clarity on his NFL future. There doesn’t appear to be much of a trade market for Richardson, who has made just 15 starts since he was the No. 4 pick in the 2023 draft. “The Colts are still giving me a chance to go out there and work, work hard and potentially get on the field,” Richardson told the Indianapolis Star during his jersey retirement ceremony at Gainesville (Fla.) Eastside High School. “Glad to be able to stay in the NFL and put the work in. Just showing up at OTAs, it was a blessing in disguise for me because I just wanted to work and they allowed me to do that so I’m thankful for that.” Richardson was seen by scouts as a high-upside, low-ceiling developmental project after one year as the starter at Florida. But the Colts threw him into the fire as a rookie and he suffered a season-ending injury after four starts. He was benched during an inconsistent 2024 and then lost his starting job to free-agent signing Daniel Jones in 2025. To compound matters, Richardson suffered a fractured orbital bone in a freak pregame accident last season. He was limited to two pass attempts and missed a chance to prove himself while Jones was sidelined with a torn Achilles, forcing the Colts to lure Philip Rivers out of a four-year retirement. “If I don’t put that work in to be a better player then I won’t be in the NFL,” Richardson said. “I just want to work hard and constantly think about my opportunity that I have now and try to take advantage of it.” Jones has been medically cleared to participate in 7-on-7 during OTAs but any first-team 11-on-11 snaps could go to Richardson or Riley Leonard
Since giving Anthony Richardson permission to seek a trade in February , the Indianapolis Colts have re-signed starting quarterback Daniel Jones to avoid the transition tag following last season's Achilles injury and continue to develop 2025 draft pick Riley Leonard as his backup. Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has one season left on his rookie contract after the franchise declined his fifth-year option . But he has a positive mindset this offseason after reporting to voluntary workouts this month. "The Colts are still giving me a chance to go out there and work, work hard and potentially get on the field," Richardson told the Indianapolis Star this week. "Glad to be able to stay in the NFL and put the work in. Just showing up at OTAs, it was a blessing in disguise for me because I just wanted to work and they allowed me to do that so I'm thankful for that." Richardson is 8-7 in 15 starts for the Colts over the past three seasons, much of that action coming across 11 games in 2024 when he threw for 1,814 yards, eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He added 499 yards on 86 carries with six scores, but fumbled seven times with turnover issues that lingered. The flashes have been there from Richardson, whose college film at Florida was limited compared to other projected first-round picks during his draft cycle. There's arm talent and effective burst as a runner, but consistency hasn't arrived yet at the NFL level. The gap between ceiling and execution is exactly what has kept the Colts from re-signing him. Giveaways have been the most persistent issue. Richardson's aggressive style, which made him a tantalizing prospect, has too often burned him against structured NFL defenses that disguise coverage and punish hesitation. When Richardson's timing is off -- he has a career completion rate of 50.6% -- drives stall quickly. And when reads are late, the offense becomes overly reliant on off-schedule plays rather than rhythm-based efficiency. That doesn't work in Shane Steichen's system and explains why Jones has been the better, more reliable option under center for the franchise. Indianapolis started the 2025 campaign 7-1 -- its best eight-game stretch since 2009 -- but collapsed after Jones' injury. Indianapolis is comfortable pivoting away from Richardson and meeting his trade request if a proper suitor emerges , but for now, he'll play out his initial deal as a depth-chart option. The Colts are 25-26 since taking a calculated chance on Richardson with the fourth overall selection three years ago and haven't appeared in the postseason. Richardson was placed on injured reserve in Week 6 last season with vision issues after fracturing his orbital bone , but he's back to full strength and appears anxious to battle for the No. 2 spot this offseason. "If I don't put that work in to be a better player, then I won't be in the NFL," Richardson said. "I just want to work hard and constantly think about my opportunity that I have now and try to take advantage of it." Richardson's goal now is to provide value in any way he can, and that starts with his renewed mentality of blocking out the noise that has lingered throughout his career. If Jones goes down this season or is ineffective, Richardson's decision-making and success with quick-game concepts likely determines his ceiling on the field. But even if Richardson accomplishes those things, can he evolve into a true high-volume passer capable of winning from the pocket in critical situations? He hasn't shown that yet, which is precisely why the Colts haven't heard any solid offers in terms of a trade
Anthony Richardson expressed gratitude for the Colts allowing him to work and potentially return to the field, despite ongoing trade rumors. He acknowledged the importance of putting in the work to improve and take advantage of his current opportunity, as he recovers from an orbital bone injury
Anthony Richardson wants a trade, and the Colts would love to trade him. But what has been described as a "soft market" by Adam Schefter of ESPN leaves the quarterback with the team for now . . . and maybe the foreseeable future. Richardson skipped the beginning of the team's voluntary offseason program, but he showed up May 4 for Phase 2 of the workouts. "The Colts are still giving me a chance to go out there and work, work hard and potentially get on the field," Richardson said, via the Indianapolis Star . "Glad to be able to stay in the NFL and put the work in. Just showing up at OTAs, it was a blessing in disguise for me, because I just wanted to work and they allowed me to do that so I'm thankful for that." Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick in 2023, lost the starting job to Daniel Jones last season. Coach Shane Steichen last week sidestepped a question about whether Richardson would compete with Riley Leonard , a 2025 sixth-round pick, for the backup job to Jones. Richardson didn't get into specifics about his future. "If I don't put that work in to be a better player then I won't be in the NFL," Richardson said. "I just want to work hard and constantly think about my opportunity that I have now and try to take advantage of it." Richardson is recovering from a right eye injury after a freak pregame accident on Oct. 12 that left him with a fractured orbital bone
The Baltimore Ravens’ 2026 schedule is here! We’ve known their opponents for a while, but now, we know exactly when and where they will be playing each game. Currently, their regular season wins over/under sits at 11.5, per FanDuel Sportsbook , tied with the Rams for the highest in the league. That is an ambitious goal for a first-time head coach with a first-time offensive playcaller, and I’m not sure the Ravens can get there. I’m projecting an 11-6 record, and here’s one way that could play out. Week 1: Ravens at Colts on Sunday, September 13 at 1:00 p.m. The Colts dropped 38 points on Jesse Minter’s defense last year, the most of any offense he faced. His debut as the Ravens’ head coach will be a shot at redemption as well as his first chance to win the confidence of, well, everyone. This could be a sneaky tough matchup if Daniel Jones is recovered from his Achilles injury, but Minter should be able to handle Anthony Richardson or Riley Leonard . Indy’s defense was suspect last year and did not add enough talent this offseason to stop Lamar Jackson. Prediction : Ravens win, 27-20 (1-0) Week 2: Ravens vs. Saints on Sunday, September 20 at 1:00 p.m. Unless Tyler Shough takes a massive second-year leap, this should be the Ravens’ easiest matchup all year. The Saints offense is coming together nicely, but will they be ready for Minter’s defense this early in the season? Their defense, meanwhile, is very much a work in progress. This could be a blowout. Prediction: Ravens win, 27-10 (2-0) Week 3: Ravens vs. Cowboys on Sunday, September 27 at 4:25 p.m. in Rio Di Janeiro, Brazil There’s a part of me that wants to believe that Lamar Jackson can turn into some version of Pelé for the NFL’s first game in Brazil. But I am obligated towards reason, and reason tells me that everything is too new, too early. The Cowboys had an underrated offseason and will not be the pushovers – literally – they were last year. Can a brand-new coaching staff handle the challenges of an international game against a strong opponent? Right now, I lean no. Prediction: Ravens lose, 17-13 (2-1) Week 4: Ravens vs. Titans on Sunday, October 4 at 1:00 p.m. This is exactly the kind of game that the Ravens maddeningly lose early in the season. I struggle to see it happening in Week 1, but a fresh, motivated Titans team under a new head coach against the Ravens returning from Brazil after a disappointing loss? It would be on brand. The Ravens will be poised to win all game but fail to land the knockout blow with some expected early bumps for a young first-time offensive playcaller. Prediction: Ravens lose, 21-20 (2-2) Week 5: Ravens at Falcons on Sunday, October 11 at 8:20 p.m. (Sunday Night Football) These two teams are surprisingly familiar with each other. Anthony Weaver and Tua Tagovailoa spent two years together in Miami , Kevin Stefanski used to coach in the AFC North, and of course, Dwayne Ledford came to Baltimore after five years in Atlanta . Whether it’s Tua or Michael Penix , the Ravens defense will come out with a vengeance, and Jackson will take over for the first time in the season. Prediction: Ravens win, 34-17 (3-2) Week 6: Ravens at Browns on Sunday, October 18 at 1:00 p.m . Todd Monken has been nothing but genial about his departure from Baltimore, so this does not feel like a traditional revenge game. His familiarity with the Ravens on both sides of the ball will help him outfox their new coaching staff, and Shedeur Sanders will have his first highlight game as a pro. Prediction: Ravens lose, 30-28 (3-3) Week 7: Ravens vs. Bengals on Sunday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m. Trey Hendrickson does get a traditional revenge game, leading a dominant pass rush that keeps a lid on the Bengals offense aside from, of course, a few huge gains by Ja’Marr Chase. Cincinnati ’s new-look defensive line gives the Ravens some issues, but Jackson makes enough plays in the fourth quarter to hang on to the win. Prediction: Ravens win, 20-14 (4-3) Week [... truncated ...]
The NFL schedule is now official and we know the who, what, where, and when for all 17 games the Washington Commanders will play this season. They start the season with two division road games which is not ideal. The season opener is against the Philadelphia Eagles who won the division last season, but immediately flamed out in the playoffs. Washington opened up as 4.5-point underdogs , but Week 1 games can be unpredictable with shortened preseasons, and big changes every offseason. Week 2 has the Commanders in Dallas to take on the Cowboys. Washington needs to at least split those two games, or they will start the season at the bottom of the division, fighting to break even. The Commanders get their first home game in Week 3, and they’re hosting the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks . They played Seattle last season, and that was the game that Jayden Daniels suffered an ugly looking elbow dislocation. A win over them early in the season would be a big confidence boost after a tough two-game start, but Seattle’s defense could be too much for a team that just hit the reset button on two of their coordinators. Washington heads overseas to London in Week 4, and will play host to the Indianapolis Colts who brought back QB Daniel Jones for another season. Indiana Jones was having a good year until he tore his Achilles in December, and he might not be ready to return by early October. That means either Riley Leonard , Anthony Richardson, or QB X will get the start. This should be a win, and a makeup for Dustin Hopkins ’ missed field goal in London a decade ago. The Commanders aren’t taking a bye after their international game like many teams do, which avoids the dreaded Week 5 early bye. Instead they will play their third division game in the first five weeks of the season, hosting the New York Giants . This will be the team’s first game against the John Harbaugh-led Giants, but they will have some tape to study on the new roster and coaches. The Commanders swept the Giants last season, and need a win at home here to maintain momentum early in the year. The San Francisco 49ers had injury issues as bad as Washington last season, but were still able to get to the playoffs(and eliminate the Eagles). Their depth and coaching were strong enough to push the team to a 12-5 record. The Commanders have to travel to California to play them this year, and this looks like a loss before the team heads into their Week 7 bye to recover and reassess for the rest of the season. The Commanders return from the bye with another division game early in the season. They host the Eagles, and get an opportunity to take them down after a rest week. Washington needs to split the series with Philly, and winning division games at home is critical to winning franchises. The Rams are the next NFC West team on the schedule, and they’ll be visiting Northwest Stadium. The best division in the NFL will be a tough out, and the Rams are right up there with the Seahawks and 49ers as opponents. The Commanders can win this game, but more likely they’ll leave Landover with the win. The Commanders should be a better team than the Giants this season, but I can see them splitting with them, and an away game on a short week seems like the game they would drop to them. This is the only Thursday Night Football game on the schedule, and it would be a very disappointing loss. Let’s get back to the win column with another primetime game. The Commanders host Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals for a big rematch from Jayden Daniels rookie season on Monday Night Football. That game was Daniels’ primetime introduction to the NFL audience, and he shined, leading the team to victory. I expect some similar magic to start a small winning streak in the middle of the season. The next two games are on the road, but the Commanders need to win them both to be a legit playoff contender. First up is a trip across the country to face their old division rivals, the Arizona C

Anthony Richardson is entering a new phase of his career in 2026, viewing the season as a reset. After a difficult rookie year and a subsequent injury, he is focused on development and positioning himself for an opportunity, potentially as a backup to Daniel Jones. With his contract situation and Jones' injury history, Richardson may get a chance to prove himself and set up a second act in the league
Colts coach Shane Steichen offered a non-committal update on quarterback Anthony Richardson's future with the team, stating he is 'back in the fold' and participating in voluntary workouts despite reports of trade requests and competition from other quarterbacks. Richardson is recovering from an eye injury
Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced that quarterback Daniel Jones (Achilles) may participate in 7-on-7 drills at OTAs, though the team will proceed with caution during his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon. With Jones's limitations, Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson Sr. are expected to receive more repetitions. Jones's readiness for the start of the 2026 season remains uncertain, positioning him as a low-end QB2 option for fantasy managers despite a strong 2025 campaign
Leonard completed 21 of 34 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 38-30 loss to the Texans. He added 21 rushing yards and a TD on three carries but lost two fumbles. Despite the turnovers, it was a surprisingly productive performance from the sixth-round rookie in his first career NFL start against an elite Houston defense that still had something to play for when the game began. Both of Leonard's passing TDs went to Alec Pierce, and the QB's one-yard rushing score in the third quarter briefly gave Indy a 24-23 lead. The Colts' quarterback situation heading into 2026 remains murky with Daniel Jones (Achilles) a free agent and Anthony Richardson (eye) barely playing this season and getting little chance to further his development, but Leonard is unlikely to find himself at the top of the depth chart in Week 1
