Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales said that the starters, including quarterback Bryce Young, will play in the team's preseason game this week against the Buffalo Bills, according to Panthers reporter Kassidy Hill. Young and the starters should get around 10 to 20 plays, depending on how the drives develop. The 25-year-old Young didn't take part in the team's Hall of Fame game last Thursday against the Arizona Cardinals, so he'll see his first preseason action this week. The former first overall pick in 2023 from the University of Alabama had the best year of his career in his third season in 2025, completing 63.6% of his pass attempts for 3,011 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 16 regular-season starts while leading the team to the NFC South title. However, it's debatable as to how much higher a ceiling Young has, especially since he doesn't have a big arm or very exciting targets outside of receiver Tetairoa McMillan. Young appears to be trending towards being a solid NFL starting QB, but for fantasy purposes, he's more of a low-end QB2 target with a low ceiling
Horn caught four passes on seven targets for 44 yards during the Panthers' 33-30 win over the Cardinals in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game. He also returned one kickoff for 25 yards. Horn caught passes of 17 and 15 yards from Haynes King on the Panthers' final drive of the second quarter, which helped set up a 33-yard field goal from Ryan Fitzgerald. Horn added two more catches in the second half, including a 12-yard pass late in the fourth quarter that set up the Panthers deep in enemy territory and eventually led to a five-yard, game-winning rushing touchdown by King as time expired. Horn was a sixth-round selection of the Panthers in the 2025 NFL Draft but didn't see many touches during his rookie campaign, finishing with 11 catches (on 15 targets) for 108 yards and eight carries for 69 yards over 14 regular-season games. Xavier Legette figures to be Carolina's WR3 behind Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker this season, but Horn could see some additional work on special teams as a returner and could earn a larger role for himself on offense with a strong training camp and preseason. The Panthers' next preseason game takes place Saturday, Aug. 15 against the Bills in Buffalo

Word on Wednesday was that Panthers rookie wide receiver Chris Brazzell would miss up to eight weeks after tearing his LCL during practice, but his absence from the field is set to be even longer. Joe Person of TheAthletic.com reports that Brazzell received a second opinion about the knee injury and that he and the team concluded that the best course of action is for the third-round pick to have season-ending surgery . Brazzell is the second Panthers player to suffer a serious knee injury since camp opened last week. Linebacker Nic Scourton will miss the season with a torn ACL. The Panthers also placed wide receiver Dan Chisena on injured reserve this week. The Panthers have signed wideouts Casey Washington and Gabriel Benyard over the last two days. They join Tetairoa McMillan, Jalen Coker, Xavier Legette, John Metchie, Jimmy Horn, Brycen Tremaine, David Moore, and Ainias Smith as available options at wideout

Jimmy Horn Jr.'s roster spot in jeopardy with new draft picks and free agent additions
Horn, a 2025 sixth-round pick, appeared in 14 regular-season games as a rookie with the Panthers, catching 11 of 15 targets for 108 yards while adding eight carries for 69 yards. At 5-8, 174, he profiles best as a situational weapon rather than a full-time option in three-wide sets, but his speed gives him the ability to capitalize on limited touches. Entering Year 2, Horn likely is destined for a similar role after Carolina added rookie third-rounder Chris Brazzell to a WR group that also includes Tetairoa McMillan, Jalen Coker and Xavier Legette
The Panthers announced the addition of a wide receiver to their 90-man roster on Monday. They have signed Malick Meiga ahead of their mandatory minicamp. Tight end Heinrich Haarberg was waived off of the roster in a corresponding move. Meiga went undrafted after catching 19 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown at Coastal Carolina last season. The Panthers drafted Chris Brazzell in the third round and signed John Metchie to go with Tetairoa McMillan , Jalen Coker , Xavier Legette , and Jimmy Horn at receiver. Haarberg signed with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent in May. He played quarterback at Nebraska before moving to tight end in 2024
