Terry McLaurin a Prime Bounce-Back Candidate Entering 2026
After a high-profile contract disagreement that led to him missing most of last summer, Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin had his 2025 season derailed by quad and core injuries that caused him to miss seven games. The veteran wideout remained a productive player when healthy, recording 38 catches for 582 yards and three touchdowns on 60 targets across 10 games. McLaurin also has a long track record of being one of the most durable pass-catchers in the NFL, playing in 17 games in four consecutive seasons leading into 2025. McLaurin is now entering his age-31 campaign, which leads to some obvious concerns about age-related regression. However, he should have the benefit of a fully healthy offseason leading into 2026. McLaurin also profiles as the obvious number one option in the Commanders' passing game, and he'll have a chance to renew his chemistry with Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels after the two shared the field for just three games last season. As the WR24 by current redraft ADP, McLaurin could end up as a value selection for fantasy managers

Treylon Burks an Intriguing Dynasty Buy-Low Candidate Ahead of 2026
A first-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2022, current Washington Commanders wide receiver Treylon Burks was never able to live up to his draft-day pedigree in Tennessee. However, the 26-year-old could have a second chance to establish an NFL career in Washington. After latching on with the Commanders midway through the 2025 season, Burks recorded 10 catches for 130 yards and a touchdown on 22 targets across eight games (three starts). While Burks' numbers do not leap off the page, Washington does not currently have an obvious WR2 behind star wideout Terry McLaurin. Health has been one of the main reasons why Burks has struggled as a pro, as he's missed 33 games across four seasons due to toe, knee, concussion, and collarbone issues. If he can stay on the field in 2026, Burks could establish a role in Washington going forward. Dynasty managers in deeper league formats may be wise to take a low-cost flyer on Burks

Enjoy! A to Z Sports It’ll take a down year for a late-drafted WR to win this award, but this looks like a down year. Only two quarterbacks were taken in the first two rounds, and one of them ( Ty Simpson ) has no chance of earning a starting job. Should Mendoza not surpass Cousins until midseason or struggle statistically when he starts, the field opens up. The running back class this year was historically weak. RB3 (Kaelon Black) left the board at No. 90 — the latest the third running back has been taken in the common draft era (since 1967). Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price are the two first-round running backs, but Price is reportedly facing a timeshare in Seattle , while Love will labor on a bad Cardinals team eyeing the 2027 No. 1 pick. The likelihood a running back wins the award this season is as thin as I can remember. There is hardly any competition in the Commanders’ receivers room behind Terry McLaurin . Williams will catch passes from Jayden Daniels , a remarkably better quarterback than players such as KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston (Browns) or Omar Cooper Jr. (Jets) will work with in 2026. Williams still needs to dodge the late-summer addition of a Brandon Aiyuk or Stefon Diggs , but his path to high-quality targets is shockingly clear for a third-round pick. Williams is also a hand-in-glove fit for David Blough ’s Detroit-inspired offense. Williams is an easy glider who makes fearless catches over the middle of the field. He is evidently cut from the Amon-Ra St. Brown cloth, and St. Brown’s reliability helped him break into the Lions’ starting lineup as a fourth-round rookie. If the Commanders suddenly need to funnel six-plus targets per game his way, he has the deep tool kit and reliable play style to sustain that volume. There are few middle-round rookies for whom I have rosier Year 1 projections than Williams. NFLcom 2025 stats: 17 games | 162 tackles | 8 tfl | 4.5 sacks | 2 INT | 4 FF The timeless linebacker continues to rack up standout seasons at the tail end of his Hall of Fame career. Wagner has never fallen short of triple-digit tackles in a season through 14 years in the league, and he now sits third all time — just 59 behind Ray Lewis’s record — with 2,000, per Pro Football Reference. Never out of place, Wagner was credited by Next Gen Stats with 69 run stops in 2025, second in the NFL. He’s as steady of a QB for the defense as there’s been in his (or any) era. NFL Pro insight for Wagner: Bobby Wagner played at least 98% of his team’s defensive snaps for the ninth time in his career. The Athletic (paywall) I am alarmed about these four situations, listed in order of severity (excluding the Browns, whose quarterback situation is perpetually severe): 3. Did Jayden Daniels get needed support? The honeymoon is over in DC. The miracle NFC championship appearance to begin the Daniels-and-Dan Quinn era was followed by a sophomore slump. Daniels was hurt, and the Commanders went 5-12. The coach’s job is safe for now, but new coordinators on both offense and defense hint at urgency. Daniels still deserves better weapons, and I’m not sure Brandon Aiyuk would be the answer . Pro Football Talk There have been no reports or suggestions that they are. Perhaps more importantly, there have been no reports or suggestions that they aren’t . It’s only tampering to express public interest in a player under contract with another team. It’s not tampering to make it known that a team isn’t interested. If they aren’t, why not make it known? If nothing else, it would save Aiyuk a lot of time and effort. This suggests that they are. And why wouldn’t they be? Quarterback Jayden Daniels, who played in 2019 with Aiyuk at Arizona State (and who recently got an earful from a 49ers fan [... truncated ...]

Playing matchmaker for remaining key NFL free agents: Several receivers still in search of new team
While the NFL's free agency frenzy has been over for quite some time, there are several notable players who are still available with the start of training camp on the horizon. Some of these players are coming off injuries, while others are battling Father Time. Money may also be a reason why several of these free agents remain unsigned. Regardless of the reason, each player could make an impact somewhere this season. With that in mind, let's play matchmaker and identify the ideal spot for several notable free agents. You'll quickly notice a host of notable receivers still searching for a new team. While they don't necessarily need another receiver, the Chiefs could nonetheless add Hill to a receiving corps headlined by Travis Kelce , Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy . Hill, after all, won a Super Bowl in Kansas City and has a rapport with Patrick Mahomes , Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. The Chargers and Bills also make sense for Hill , who is hoping to revive his career after a serious knee injury sidelined him for most of the 2025 season. Both teams have elite quarterbacks and wide receiver groups that could use a boost. Instead of waiting for Brandon Aiyuk to potentially become available, the Commanders would be better off signing Diggs, who showed during his lone season in New England that he is still capable of producing at a relatively high level. Diggs, who is from the D.C. area, would join a Washington receiving corps that includes two-time Pro Bowler Terry McLaurin and rookie Antonio Williams . Diggs' presence would surely make life easier for Jayden Daniels , who is hoping to return to form after an injury-plagued 2025 season. Injuries have hindered Samuel throughout his career, which is why his next team should use him sparingly to increase his chances of staying healthy for the season. In that vein, the Rams make a lot of sense given what they already have at receiver. In Los Angeles, Samuel could complement Davante Adams and Puka Nacua while giving league MVP Matthew Stafford yet another weapon. It's safe to say Sean McVay would have a field day designing plays for the versatile Samuel. Baltimore might be done with aging receivers after having moderate success in recent years with Odell Beckham Jr . and DeAndre Hopkins . But if the Ravens want to go down that road once more, Allen makes sense on numerous fronts, starting with the fact he is still a productive player who can help Baltimore win. Allen's skillset (he's a big possession receiver) would complement Zay Flowers , who is more of a big-play threat. His presence would also take pressure off rookie wideouts Elijah Sarratt and Ja'Kobi Lane , who will likely need some time to get acclimated to the NFL. The 34-year-old Hopkins recently expressed his desire to play for a "contender" this season. Of the teams that fit that category, Buffalo is the one that needs the most help at receiver. But like the Ravens, the Bills may also be done signing aging wideouts after swinging and missing with Amari Cooper two years ago. Hopkins, who racked up more than 1,000 receiving yards as recently as 2023, could also potentially be a good fit with the Bengals , where he could complement Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins , or in Denver, where he could play alongside Jaylen Waddle and Courtland Sutton . If none of those teams come calling, Hopkins may have to consider signing with a team that isn't considered a contender (i.e., the Dolphins or Raiders ) if he wants to play in 2026. While an Achilles injury wiped out most of his 2025 season, Harris was the model of durability during his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers . From 2021-24, Harris didn't miss a single game. He was also the only running back over that span to rush for more than 1,000 yards each season. The Seahawks spent a first-round pick on Jadarian Price after losing Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker to the Chiefs in free agency. Treylon Burks Ready to Start Fulfilling First-Round Potential?
Wide receiver Treylon Burks never could live up to his first-round potential when the Tennessee Titans took him 18th overall in 2022 out of the University of Arkansas, as he caught 53 of 92 targets for 699 yards and only one touchdown in 27 games (17 starts) in his first three years in the league. The Titans eventually released the 26-year-old, and the Washington Commanders took a flier on him as they searched for WR depth behind Terry McLaurin. Burks had only 10 catches for 130 yards and one touchdown on 22 targets in eight games (three starts) in his first year in D.C. in 2025, but there were flashes of why he was considered a first-round target. Deebo Samuel Sr. won't be back in free agency, and the Commanders are still searching for depth behind McLaurin. Might Burks be that guy? NFL.com's Nick Shook suggests that a full offseason of stability could serve Burks well as he heads into Year 2 in Washington. If the Commanders don't add a big name at WR before the start of the 2026 season, Burks might be the best bet to emerge as the WR2 behind McLaurin

The defensive front was a point of emphasis as the team brought in Odafe Oweh , K’Lavon Chaisson , Leo Chenal , first-round pick Sonny Styles , fifth-round pick Joshua Josephs and others. Cornerback Amik Robertson and safety Nick Cross were good additions to the secondary. Third-round wide receiver Antonio Williams and tight end Chig Okonkwo should be immediate impact performers in the pass game. Sports Illustrated Sonny Styles, LB, Washington Commanders The Washington Commanders haven’t re-signed future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner this offseason. They essentially replaced him by drafting Sonny Styles at No. 7 overall . If Styles is about to play the Wagner role in a Dan Quinn-coached defense, then he should be the overwhelming favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year. Commanders.com Key questions What does the run game look like without Kenneth Walker ? The Seahawks’ run game wasn’t a top 10 group in 2025, but it did help keep the offense moving, particularly in the second half of the season and the playoffs. They rushed for at least 100 yards in eight of their last nine regular season games and 391 total yards in the postseason. Most of their playoff success came from Walker, who rushed for 313 yards in three games, including 135 in the Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots . The performance earned him a Super Bowl MVP, and it quickly became clear that Walker was moving on in the offseason. The Seahawks appear poised to give more responsibility to Charbonnet , who led the team in rushing touchdowns, but they also want to keep a committee approach with the additions of Pierce and Wilson. Defensive teams tend to run the ball more, and that was the case with the Seahawks, who ranked fourth in total rushing attempts. However, they clearly want to get more explosive on the ground and believe the trio of Charbonnet, Pierce and Wilson can achieve that. Can the defense remain elite? The Seahawks had one of the most suffocating defenses in the league last year under head coach Mike Macdonald. Though some areas were better than others, they were solid at every level and allowed the fewest points per game in the NFL. Nick Emmanwori was a game-changer at safety, and veterans like Demarcus Lawrence and Williams helped invigorate the team’s pass-rush. There are several foundational pieces still on the roster, but like every Super Bowl team, their overall personnel will look drastically different in the upcoming season. Boye Mafe is gone, as is cornerback Riq Woolen and safety Coby Bryant . The Seahawks are banking on newcomers like Igbinoghene, Jobe and Bell to help maintain the high standards the unit set in 2025. Defensive performances don’t always carry over year to year, but the Seahawks have done enough to earn the benefit of the doubt. Bleacher Report Jayden Daniels – ADP: QB4, 66th Overall Jayden Daniels’ first two seasons have been polar opposites. The first was outstanding—over 3,500 passing yards, 25 passing scores, the second-most rushing yards among quarterbacks in the league (891) and top-five fantasy numbers. Last year, however, was far different. Daniels’ per-game passing numbers fell precipitously just about across the board and Daniels played in just seven games due to knee and elbow injuries. Former NFL WR Ed McCaffrey talks about son Luke’s preparation for 2026 season
We’ve talked a lot about wide receivers this offseason – more specifically, who may step up (or be signed) to be the number two opposite Terry McLaurin . Some familiar names that have been mentioned (besides Aiyuk and Diggs) are Treylon Burks , Luke McCaffrey, Dyami Brown and third-round rookie Antonio Williams . My friend Kyle Odegard was kind enough to share this exclusive interview he did with Ed McCaffrey this month where Ed talks about the Broncos, sons Christian and Luke, and his youth football camp. He gave some good insight into Luke’s physical and mental preparation for the up-coming season and dealing with a slow start to his NFL career. Ed McCaffrey on Luke trying to increase his playing time in 2026 : I know Luke is working really hard to be the best player he can be. It’s very competitive and there is a lot of talent on that roster. Luke knows that. He’s the son of an NFL player. His brothers play and coach in the NFL. He knows he has to go out and earn it. No one gives you anything in this league. But I can say he looked in great shape last time I saw him. He looked stronger than a year ago. He looks faster and more explosive. He’s giving himself the best chance to get on the field and compete for the Commanders. Ed McCaffrey on starting his own NFL career slowly and Luke staying patient : The NFL is a tough league. You’re in the top .00001% of football players in the world. It’s the elite of the elite at that level. And you can only control what you can control: your attitude and your effort, and you can get bigger and stronger in the offseason and make sure you know the plays. As a wide receiver, you can’t control your playing time and you can’t throw yourself the football. As a receiver, you have to be very patient, and you have to be ready for the opportunities that you get. When you get them, you really have to make them count. He knows that. He’s doing everything he can. It’s just the life of a wide receiver. Ed McCaffrey on what he’s heard about David Blough : I’ve heard a lot of great things coming out of OTAs from other coaches and players. I think they are very impressed with the job he’s been doing as the OC. We have talked extensively about who will step up to be that complementary piece to Terry McLaurin this season. According to Ed, Luke is in a good place both physically and mentally and it seems this new offense will fit his skillset a bit more that what we saw Kingsbury roll out the past two seasons. 49ers receiver wants to jump ship to Commanders
Brandon Aiyuk has not played for the San Francisco 49ers in almost two years, but the one-time All-Pro receiver does not believe his career is over. In fact, Aiyuk continues to stay away from the 49ers facilities, but says he wants the team to cut him, at which point he says he will immediately sign with the Washington Commanders . It’s not clear to anyone if Aiyuk will play in the NFL next season, but the Los Angeles Rams play the 49ers twice and the Commanders once. They might get their chance. In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Aiyuk reiterated his desire to be cut by the 49ers and emphasized a desire to play with the Commanders. Washington’s GM is Adam Peters, formerly of the San Francisco 49ers. It would give Aiyuk a chance to play with quarterback Jayden Daniels and pair up with Terry McLaurin . The Commanders have an apparent weakness at the position, set to start Treylon Burks and rookie Antonio Williams , if not Luke McCaffrey , Dyami Brown , or Jaylin Lane . Former Rams receiver Van Jefferson is also on the roster. It seems to leave a huge opening for Aiyuk, a receiver who had 1,342 yards in 2023, his last full season in the league. Aiyuk, a first round pick in 2020, has averaged 62 yards per game in his career. He recently turned 28. But do the Commanders want him as much as he wants to go to D.C.? Enjoy! JP Finlay A new offense and new defense means the work doesn’t stop for Washington during the NFL break Rookie WR Antonio Williams knows how to get separation. He has a chance for a real role in this offense, as does Treylon Burks . The former first-rounder just needs to stay healthy, something he’s been unable to do so far in his NFL career. Burks did tell me this year feels like a fresh start. Quinn also went out of his way to salute the strong summers for veterans Dyami Brown and Van Jefferson . Quick note on Henry – he’s wearing the 30 jersey and when he’s on the field looks a bit like Austin Ekeler . He’s my early pick for preseason leader in rush yards (which does not mean a roster spot but is a silly prediction game we play on the Beltway Football podcast). Ben Sinnott and Chig Okonkwo had strong offseasons. David Blough ’s offense is going to offer more verticality for the tight end position and expect both to be able to show their athleticism. Okonkwo will be the lead dog at the position but Sinnott might finally be able to prove why he was a Top 100 pick. Connerly looks bigger and with broader shoulders than his rookie season. Still the single moment that stood out for me came from the conclusion of minicamp practices when the entire team ran a series of short sprints. [Laremy] Tunsil – the five-time Pro Bowler going into his 11th season and with career earnings of well over $100 million – was grinding out the June sprints. Actions not words. I stood on the sideline watching practice with former Redskins RB Ricky Ervins and Commanders team president Mark Clouse . Ervins told a story about the first time he played at RFK and saw the stands bouncing and explained the scene nearly drove him to tears. He asked Clouse if the bounding seats would be re-created at the new stadium, and the team prez explained that it would for a portion of the seats. It was a cool moment of the past meeting the future, something the organization is trying to do and something the fan base desperately wants. The Athletic (paywall) The line will do a lot of zone blocking Quinn said repeatedly during these nonpadded workouts that it’s hard to get real evaluations on offensive linemen in the spring because so much of the job revolves around physicality. What we do know: The offensive line will use a primarily zone-blocking scheme reminiscent of the one Mike Shanahan employed in Washington from 2010 through 2013 — a system he perfected in Denver in the 1990s. Zone blocking in the run game is exactly as it sounds: Offensive linemen block an area rather than a man. It requires linemen to be athletic and on the move, and results in a lot of double-teams on defensive linemen. “Under-center snaps with some wide zone — with some pulling — I’ve done it before,” said Nick Allegretti , who is moving from guard to center. “But it’s gonna be a bigger part of the bulk of that offense. I’m just getting out in space.” Because there was no tackling during these workouts, any long rushing touchdown was kind of fake. But during one workout last week, Allegretti and guard Sam Cosmi celebrated a supposed score by jumping on each other because they had pulled and led a running back into the end zone some 25 yards downfield — just how Blough drew it up. Heavy.com There was a time, just 2 years ago, when running back Rachaad White saw his value skyrocket to the point he was being talked about as a player who might reset the market for his position. Before the 2024 season, after he put up over 1,500 yards of total offense in 2023, White’s value on the open market was thought to be approaching $10 million per season. Jacory Croskey-Merritt has Best Shot to Become Commanders Lead Back?
Washington Commanders second-year running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who has missed some offseason work due to a soft-tissue injury, has the best chance to become the team's lead back in 2026, according to Zach Selby of Commanders.com. Croskey-Merritt, also known as Bill, has "quickness on the outside and has enough burst to run through creases at the line of scrimmage." The 25-year-old rushed for 805 yards in 2025, third in his draft class, and added eight touchdowns on 175 carries over 17 games (seven starts). JCM must still improve in pass protection, but he showed plenty of patience and decisiveness as a ball-carrier despite not being taken until the seventh round in the 2025 NFL draft. Croskey-Merritt was used sparingly as a pass-catcher as a rookie, hauling in nine passes on just 13 targets for 68 yards. Newcomer Rachaad White will most likely operate as Washington's primary pass-catching back, with Jerome Ford and Jeremy McNichols providing veteran depth. Ball security was another issue for JCM as a rookie, and if those issues resurface in Year 2, he could quickly lose touches to White, Ford, and McNichols. Fantasy managers should consider Croskey-Merritt as an RB3/4 with upside if he proves himself more in passing situations

The vibes were off the charts coming off Washington’s surprise run to the NFC Championship Game, with Daniels winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. After an injury-plagued 2025 season, everyone’s waiting to see how he will get off the mat. Washington’s running a new offense coordinated by 30-year-old former QB David Blough , who will ask Daniels to take more snaps from under center. I won’t blame the third-year passer if the burden feels heavy. After the Commanders were very aggressive in adding support for him last offseason — trading for Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel — this year’s moves were far less splashy. At the moment, third-round pick Antonio Williams is the most notable addition to the receiving corps, which is badly in need of more juice opposite Terry McLaurin . I worry that the first three games — at Eagles, at Cowboys, vs. Seahawks — could derail Daniels and Co. before we reach October, but he’s surprised us before. When healthy, he has the potential to be one of the most electric playmakers in the game. If the Commanders are playoff contenders come December, it will be because Daniels is playing out of his mind. Paulsen: “It is kinda half-baked, but part of me is like, ‘Why not?’ I think it’s very, very possible…This is an interesting one to me, because it’s so hard to determine. That’s why it’s half-baked. Determining long-term success is really hard, but in that 2024 season, we saw special stuff from him … When he’s on, there’s a magic to him.” Smoot: “Caleb had a down in his first year and bounced back last year. Drake Maye , I don’t think he had a down, but he just started slow. And Bo Nix is the one I’m most confused about, because he balls when he’s healthy. But there’s something going on with Sean Payton that we don’t know.” Moss: “I think when you think about it, his rookie season…he was on the verge of being an MVP. If he didn’t hurt those ribs, who knows? I think it’s very possible, and to me, one of the things that builds or creates those kind of guys, those outstanding achievers that are looked at as the greatest of their position, is going through what he’s went through. He had an up, then he had a down. So, where do you lie, young fella?” Riggo’s Rag Santana Moss was suitably impressed . The former wide receiver highlighted Daniels’ mobility and accuracy as standout traits at OTAs. However, he also thought the dynamic dual-threat had been spending a lot more time in the weight room this offseason. “JD5 (Jayden Daniels) looks like he’s back and ready for action. I see him getting a little girthy on them arms, and I can see him out there rolling outside the pocket, throwing that thing everywhere.” Daniels is never going to be a Cam Newton-type in terms of size and physicality. He doesn’t need to be, but after taking some significant punishment last season, the Heisman Trophy winner has taken the initiative to get stronger in the regular-season pressure cooker. It’s a slight change, but it’ll only help. The Commanders are expecting Daniels to bounce back next season. Every decision this offseason has had the No. 2 pick in 2024 at the forefront. The defensive enhancements will make things easier . There are some decent-looking options in the passing game and a stronger ground attack. He’s got a more dynamic pass-catching tight end in Chig Okonkwo , and offensive coordinator David Blough’s scheme should maximize the exceptional skills Okonkwo brings to the table. The lack of production from last season doesn’t account for the fact that the team took wideout Antonio Williams from Clemson in the third round of April’s draft. Chig Okonkwo, a free-agent signee , gives quarterback Jayden Daniels a more dynamic element at tight end. And so much of the Commanders’ offensive potential hangs on Daniels’ health, which could easily be identified as the most important element for 2026. But there’s a reason why the names Brandon Aiyuk and Stefon Diggs still hang over the offseason. It’s because — and here’s your quiz answer — Dyami Brown , Jaylin Lane, Luke McCaffrey , Treylon Burks and Jacoby Jones don’t collectively scream, “We’re fine here.” [U]ntil Aiyuk either returns to the San Francisco 49ers ( which isn’t happening ) or is cut, and Diggs, who helped the New England Patriots to an AFC championship a year ago, signs with another team, Commanders fans have the right to wonder: Why not kick the tires? If [Brandon Aiyuk] really wants out of San Francisco — and it’s apparent that he does — then all he has to do is show up for one of the 49ers’ offseason workouts. Step on the field, and there are people who believe the Niners would cut him instantly because they don’t want to be responsible for paying him in 2026 should he get hurt in the offseason. Diggs’ ties to Washington aren’t to the quarterback or the front office, but to the city itself. He grew up in nearby Montgomery County, Md., and played college ball at Maryland. A free agent, he caught 85 balls for 1,013 yards in 2025, a season in which he turned 32. He may be on the back end of his career, but that career has featured seven 1,000-yard seasons in the last eight years. He can still play. Would signing Diggs make the Commanders’ receiving corps a strength? No. Would it take some heat off a group of pass catchers that currently doesn’t have its top two players in receptions from a year ago, Deebo Samuel and Zach Ertz ? Yes. Those 122 catches come from somewhere. Bullock’s Film Room (subscription) Through the first two weeks of OTAs, it appears as though Treylon Burks is the receiver standing out the most. Most local beat reporters have stated that Burks is getting most of the reps opposite McLaurin and when you see videos from practice, it’s typically Burks that comes up second in the receiver running order after McLaurin. As a former first round pick, Burks is obviously a talented receiver. The issues for him in Tennessee mostly revolved around struggling to stay healthy. So if he can stay healthy, could he earn that second spot in the Commanders wide receiver rankings? To judge that, we first need to see what new offensive coordinator David Blough is likely looking for from a receiver like Burks. Burks is listed at 6-foot-2, 225 pounds and is probably best suited to playing an outside receiver role in this offense. With McLaurin locking down the X receiver role, that leaves the Z receiver spot open. So what does Blough want from a Z receiver? Only he knows the actual answer to that question, but we do know that his offense is likely to be heavily influenced from his time in Detroit under Ben Johnson. So looking back at that 2023 Lions offense, how did they use the Z receiver? One of the themes of the Lions offense in 2023 was how they leaned on an interior trio of running back Jahmyr Gibbs , tight end Sam LaPorta and slot receiver Amon-Ra St.Brown . Those three carried a lot of the load working underneath and over the middle of the field. The Z receiver in that offense became a secondary option after those guys, but often you’d see the Lions use those three underneath as bait to open up a deeper crossing route for the Z receiver. What Dan Quinn is looking for from NFL draft picks Sonny Styles, Antonio Williams in OTAs
The Commanders NFL draft class has been working with its new team for some time. A group headlined by first-round linebacker Sonny Styles and third-round receiver Antonio Williams have been in meetings and on-field work, mostly conducted against air. Activity ramped up on Wednesday during the first of nine OTAs that lead into a mid-June mandatory minicamp. There are still no pads or violent contact allowed, so we’re still a ways from the real football heading towards us in training camp and the preseason. That’s why Dan Quinn and his staff are focused on the little details that show progress, skill and schematic understanding. Washington’s head coach detailed what he’s looking for in Styles and Williams in this early going. Let’s start with Styles, an Ohio State product taken at No. 7 overall . He can’t hit or make plays on the ball, but Quinn flagged areas where Styles can showcase himself this spring. “As Sonny goes, it’s different,” Quinn said in a Wednesday press conference . “You’re not going to see his plays on the ball, but can we see the burst, the movement and as a linebacker — man, do we want to feel his communication.” There are moments, like this clip below, where you can his natural movements and athleticism. The Commanders will also experiment with using Styles as a pass rusher. There are clearer signs for Williams, just by the nature of his position. “This time of year, what are you competing and what does that look like?” Quinn said. “And so, in Antonio’s spot, it’s the route, it’s the movements, it’s the catching when he is targeted, he’ll work with a number of different groups as we go through the process.” Williams has made a solid first impression on the man throwing him passes and deciding receivers to target, a positive sign for the Clemson product. “He’s a smooth kid and very crafty within his routes,” quarterback Jayden Daniels said in a Wednesday presser. “I’m excited to continue to build that rapport with him.”

Why Commanders should sign cornerback Rasul Douglas to compete with Mike Sainristill
Cornerback seemed like a clear and obvious Commanders need heading into the NFL Draft. General manager Adam Peters didn’t take one with any of his six selections. We may have had a different discussion had the Kansas City Chiefs not traded up to take LSU’s Mansoor Delane at No. 6 overall, but we’ll never know what Peters would have done. Delane or Sonny Styles ? No way Peters will let that preference go public. The Commanders looked to receiver Antonio Williams in the third round other positions after that, leaving the defensive backfield alone. That doesn’t mean he won’t address it as spring turns to summer. As matter of fact, Peters probably should. There aren’t many cover corners on the open market who flow with his objective to get younger, but the position group can surely get stronger and deeper and more dependable by adding Rasul Douglas . The 30-year-old isn’t a household name and has bounced around a fair amount recently, but Douglas is a guy who can come in and compete. He’s a bigger cornerback at 6-foot-2 and 209 pounds, and could certainly fit into new coordinator Daronte Jones’ scheme. Adding Douglas isn’t an original thought. Our John Portis and Matt inBrisVegas have brought him up a bunch , and I like their logic. He has been a steady starter throughout his career, including the 2025 campaign in Miami . He had 62 tackles, two interceptions and a sack, allowing just a 72.6 passer rating when targeted . That’s, you know, pretty good. Incumbent cornerback Mike Sainristill, by contrast, allowed a 109.7 passer rating when targeted. And a 71.3% completion rate. It’s safe to say that Trey Amos will lock down one outside cornerback spot. The Commanders would surely like Sainristill to develop and secure his position atop the depth chart. They used a second-round pick on him for a reason. Adding Douglas brings competition and valuable experience to the position group. Whether he’s injury protection, a hedge against Sainristill’s development or quality depth, it’s a good investment. Signing Douglas won’t break the bank and should add positivity to the locker room culture. There’s no downside to this one, as Peters continues to fortify a defense that simply must be better than it was last season
