Per Lazar, the No. 3 job behind Stevenson and Henderson figures to go to "whoever offers the most juice as a returner and can fill in when needed in the offensive backfield."
New England Patriots rookie running back Jam Miller will be competing for a backup role behind TreVeyon Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson in 2026 after he was selected in the seventh round in April out of the University of Alabama, according to Evan Lazar of Patriots.com. New England doesn't have a clear-cut RB3 on its roster like they did last summer with veteran Antonio Gibson. Lazar suggests it will be a four-man competition between Miller, Terrell Jennings, Lan Larison, and undrafted rookie Myles Montgomery for what will likely be one spot on the 53-man roster. Miller is a compact runner with good straight-line speed, and his experience as a core special-teamer early in his career at Alabama should help his cause. His best path to playing time as a rookie with the Patriots will be if Stevenson misses time due to an injury, so Miller can be avoided in redraft fantasy leagues in 2026. New England Patriots running back Jam Miller could be an interesting stash option for dynasty managers. The Patriots selected Miller in the seventh-round of this year's draft. He figures to compete for the No. 3 spot in the backfield with Terrell Jennings, Myles Montgomery, and Lan Larison. This past season, Miller rushed for 504 yards on 130 carries with three touchdowns in 11 games at Alabama. The 3.9 yards per carry isn't ideal, but the Patriots believe Miller has the potential to be a decent contributor. The Patriots often deploy three-man rotations in the backfield, which could give Miller some value right away, assuming he wins the job. At worst, Miller is someone worth stashing on the taxi squad in case an injury happens to Rhamondre Stevenson or TreVeyon Henderson

The depth behind the two is far from settled, however, which prompted the team to invest its second-to-last selection in the draft — pick No. 245 in the seventh round — in another RB: Jam Miller out of the University of Alabama. Only a few days after he heard his name called, Miller put his signature under a four-year, $4.5 million rookie contract that breaks down as follows. Base value: $4,504,940 Maximum value: TBD Guarantees: $124,940 Signing bonus: $124,940 2026 (age 22): Base salary: $885,000 Signing bonus: $31,235 Salary cap hit: $916,235 2027 (age 23): Base salary: $1,050,000 Signing bonus: $31,235 Salary cap hit: $1,081,235 2028 (age 24): Base salary: $1,165,000 Signing bonus: $31,235 Salary cap hit: $1,196,235 2029 (age 25): Base salary: $1,280,000 Signing bonus: $31,235 Salary cap hit: $1,311,235 Miller’s contract is structured exactly like those the Patriots’ other late-round picks received. The base salaries are equivalent to the the veteran minimums for each of those seasons, with no part of them guaranteed. The only difference between Miller’s deal and, for example, the one signed by quarterback Behren Morton is that the latter received a higher signing bonus due to being drafted 11 spots earlier in the seventh round. Whereas Morton’s bonus is worth $149,228, Miller’s comes in at $124,940 prorated over four annual portions hitting the salary cap at $31,235 each. That $124,940 number, which has already been paid, will remain on the Patriots’ books regardless of Miller’s outlook. It either will be part of his cap number each season, or count as dead money in case he gets cut

Taken in the seventh round by the Patriots in the 2026 draft, the aptly-named Jam has the tools to be a short-yardage asset in the NFL. The Alabama product posted a surprising 4.42 40-yard time at the combine, but his tape shows a back who's more adept at running through would-be tacklers rather than around them. Miller doesn't offer much on passing downs, however, limiting him to being a between-the-tackles grinder and potential goal-line option. New England already has a better version of that skill set in Rhamondre Stevenson, but if injuries sideline the veteran - Stevenson hasn't played more than 15 regular-season games in a season since 2022 - Miller could step in as a complementary option alongside big-play threat TreVeyon Henderson
