Patriots claim former Panthers wide receiver Kobe Prentice, waive tackle
A 12th wide receiver is inbound to Foxborough. The New England Patriots announced the claiming of rookie wideout Kobe Prentice off waivers on Saturday, as previously reported by KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson . The organization waived offensive tackle Sebastian Gutierrez in a corresponding move following the first practice of training camp. Prentice, 22, entered the NFL with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent in May. The 5-foot-10, 184-pound target landed on the wire to begin the weekend. A former four-star recruit, Prentice played in 36 games at Alabama before transferring to Baylor and adding 11 appearances as a senior. Making four starts between the SEC and the Big 12, his collegiate run spanned 86 receptions for 1,160 yards and 11 touchdowns. Gutierrez, 28, returned to Gillette Stadium on a futures contract in February. The 6-foot-5, 308-pound tackle logged a series of stints on New England ’s practice squad dating back to 2022, including re-signings last September and January. Beginning his NFL journey with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Minot State, Gutierrez has twice served as a standard elevation while making additional stops with the Kansas City Chiefs , San Francisco 49ers , Las Vegas Raiders , Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts . The Patriots move deeper into the summer with an active receiver room that also includes A.J. Brown , Romeo Doubs , Kayshon Boutte , Mack Hollins , Kyle Williams , DeMario Douglas , Efton Chism III , Jeremiah Webb , Kyle Dixon, Nick DeGennaro and Cameron Dorner. But a recent departure from the depth chart will be remaining in the fold for now. Rookie wideout Jimmy Kibble cleared waivers and reverted to New England’s injured reserve, per the transaction wire. Kibble, 22, had been waived with an injury designation on the eve of camp’s initial practice. Barring an injury settlement at a later date, the move ends his season in July. The 6-foot-1, 199-pound Georgetown product appeared in 39 games during his Hoyas career on the way to catching 149 passes for 2,642 yards and 16 touchdowns. As a team captain in 2025, Kibble totaled 63 receptions for 1,002 yards and four touchdowns en route to first-team All-Patriot League recognition. A 91-man roster spot changed hands at Gillette Stadium on the eve of training camp. The New England Patriots waived wide receiver Jimmy Kibble with an injury designation on Friday, according to the NFL transaction wire. As a result, the Georgetown product is on track to revert to injured reserve after going through the league’s claiming period over the weekend. The move effectively ends his rookie season in July, provided an injury settlement is not reached at a later date. Kibble, 22, agreed to terms in Foxborough as part of the club’s 2026 undrafted class in May. The 6-foot-1, 199-pound wideout appeared in 39 games while at Georgetown. His Hoyas career spanned 149 receptions for 2,642 yards and 16 touchdowns. First-team All-Patriot League honors arrived for Kibble in 2025 on the heels of catching 63 passes for 1,002 yards and four touchdowns as a team captain. Patriots OTA Notebook: A.J. Brown makes highly-anticipated practice debut
The New England Patriots kicked off their second and final week of organized team activities on Monday, and were back on the practice fields behind Gillette Stadium on Tuesday. For the second time this spring, the media was present to watch from start to finish as well. And while OTAs do not include any pads or live contact, there was still plenty to take away from the event. Absentees: WR Kayshon Boutte , ED Harold Landry III, ED Gabe Jacas , CB Christian Gonzalez , CB Carlton Davis III, CB Marcus Jones Non-participants: WR Kyle Dixon, ED Bradyn Swinson , LB K.J. Britt , CB Charles Woods Injured: OT Morgan Moses Limited: OG Alijah Vera-Tucker, CB Marcellas Dial Jr. Veteran offensive tackle Morgan Moses walked off the practice field with members of the training staff and eventually departed after spending time in the medical shed. There was no notable injury before his departure. The rest New England ’s attendance looked similarly to last week’s session, with cornerback Christian Gonzalez remaining as the most notable player not in attendance. Fellow cornerback Marcus Jones was a new absence, while rookie Gabe Jacas has still not suited up since being drafted in April. After leaving last week’s practice early, both Bradyn Swinson and K.J. Britt were non-participants. Starting left guard Alijah Vera-Tucker and cornerback Marcellas Dial Jr. remained limited as they work back from injuries. A.J.’s arrival: Following Monday’s trade that brought him from Philadelphia to New England, wide receiver A.J. Brown passed his physical and made his first appearance as a Patriot on Tuesday. Brown participated in positional drills before taking just a handful of reps in full-team work as he continues to get acclimated. His first full-team rep on the field: a completion from Drake Maye on a hitch route on the outside. O-line shuffling: With Morgan Moses departing earlier, rookie Caleb Lomu and Marcus Bryant held down the right tackle position for the rest of practice. As Alijah Vera-Tucker then continued to work off to the side in full-team drills, Ben Brown received the left guard reps in between Jared Wilson and Will Campbell . With Brown also getting some occasional work at center, Andrew Rupcich filled in at left guard again. Slots shine: After leading all pass catchers with four catches on five targets last week, DeMario Douglas was active again on Tuesday with four more receptions — including one deep completion on a coverage bust. Douglas also appeared to be the target on an incompletion following a miscommunication with Maye, though. In addition to Pop, second-year slot option Efton Chism III continued to be a reliable target with four catches as well. While all of Chism’s receptions came from Tommy DeVito , the receiver saw his fair share of snaps with Maye’s unit as well. QB report: It was an all around OK day in the office for Drake Maye. The quarterback was largely accurate underneath and exploited two coverage busts to find completions downfield to Douglas and Hunter Henry on a pretty seam ball. Maye did have some high misses and several passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. Behind him, backup Tommy DeVito had an impressive afternoon including several throws on the move. Rookie Behren Morton did not take any reps during team periods. Other notes: Jack Westover filled in as the TE2 behind Hunter Henry with Julian Hill on injured reserve. Rookie Eli Raridon had two catches and a drop with the second unit including a strong downfield completion. Mack Hollins fulfilled his usual role in the offense upon his return. Kyle Williams mixed in with both units finishing with two catches. There was plenty of shuffling along the backup offensive line. Among the lineups included James Hudson seeing time at guard and rookie Dametrious Crownover recording snaps at left tackle.
