CBS Sports announced on Friday that it is mutually parting ways with NFL analyst Tony Romo . "CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways. We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward. "JJ Watt will continue to partner with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on our lead NFL announce team for the rest of the season. All other teams remain the same, including Ian Eagle, Ross Tucker and Evan Washburn." Romo, a four-time Pro Bowl quarterback with the Dallas Cowboys , was arrested in a traffic stop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 23, and he was charged with operating while intoxicated (OWI). He pleaded no contest on Sept. 1. The network placed Romo on leave on July 31 before a mutual parting of ways on Friday. Romo began at CBS Sports for the 2017 NFL season and had been partnered with Nantz throughout his time with the network. He came to the network after a 13-year career as a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, including four Pro Bowl seasons. Romo plans to take a break from work while evaluating his next career move. "I'm proud of what I accomplished at CBS Sports over the last nine years. I approached my role as a game analyst the way I've approached everything in my life -- with a desire to win and be the best that I can be," Romo said in a statement via Puck . "I'm going to use this time to take a break, something I've never done before, and focus on my health and my family before moving on to my next opportunity. I am grateful for my time with CBS Sports and for the continued support of my family and friends, as well as the NFL community and fans." Watt joined CBS Sports in 2023, first as a member of The NFL Today for two seasons before partnering with Ian Eagle last year. Watt is a three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year who recorded 114.5 sacks in a 12-year career with the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals

Dak Prescott threw four touchdown passes, breaking the Cowboys’ franchise record for career touchdown passes. He passed Tony Romo with his 249th career touchdown pass, a 24-yarder to CeeDee Lamb with 3:07 remaining to ice the game. The Cowboys beat the Commanders 37-20, though Washington lost more than a game. Quarterback Jayden Daniels injured his left elbow on the final play of the first half. The replay was so gruesome that Fox analyst Tom Brady blurted, “Oh, shit.” Commanders left tackle Brandon Coleman (finger), defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw and right guard Sam Cosmi left the game with injuries late in the fourth quarter. Daniels was hurt trying to score from the 1 with three seconds left before halftime. Left guard Chris Paul accidently stepped on the quarterback as Daniels took the snap from under center, and Daniels tried to brace himself as he started to fall to the ground. It was similar to the 2025 game against the Seahawks last season when Daniels dislocated his left elbow. Everything seemingly went against the Commanders on Sunday, including a 29-yard touchdown pass from Marcus Mariota to Dyami Brown that officials and replay somehow ruled incomplete. The broadcast crew disagreed with the ruling, which would have tied the game at 17-17. The Cowboys, who led 17-3 early and 17-10 at halftime, pulled away thereafter. Prescott went 26-of-31 for 279 yards and four touchdowns. In addition to the 24-yarder to Lamb late, Prescott threw a 3-yard touchdown to Lamb early and had scoring tosses of 10 and 12 to tight end Jake Ferguson. Prescott kept the football after passing Romo for the record. “To now put myself in that category, it’s humbling, but I expect to play for a long time. And in my mind, I’m just getting started,” Prescott said last week. He now has a 23-2 record in division home games. That’s the best winning percentage at home against division opponents, with a minimum of 15 starts, since the merger, according to NBC Sports Research. It was Prescott’s 20th consecutive win against NFC East teams at home since 2017. That ties Tom Brady’s NFL record. Lamb caught eight passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. The Commanders outgained the Cowboys 389 to 332, but they went 1-for-3 in the red zone. The Cowboys are 1-1, while the Commanders are 0-2

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Dak Prescott has eclipsed predecessor Tony Romo in numerous all-time franchise pass records, and now he's on the verge of doing it again. Prescott's third passing touchdown of the day against the Washington Commanders in Week 2, his second to tight end Jake Ferguson, now ties him with Romo atop the Cowboys' all-time passing touchdowns leader board with 248. He hit this milestone in 15 fewer career games than Romo, and he's now in position to take sole possession of another Dallas passing record from Romo. Not too shabby for a former fourth-round pick who was initially set to be the Cowboys' third quarterback in 2016 before injuries to Romo and then-backup Kellen Moore occurred in the preseason. "Yeah, blessed, humbled, thankful to have the opportunity to do so. This game has meant so, so much to me," Prescott said on Thursday. "It's always been, since as long as I can remember, peace, getting out there and just playing this game has given me peace and a level of excitement and joy that it's hard to even put into words. And to now put myself in that category, it's humbling, but I expect to play for a long time. And in my mind, I'm just getting started. I've said it before. I think records are meant to be broken when you're playing long enough, and that's just this opportunity for me to do this." Prescott entered Sunday already No. 1 in team history in completion percentage (66.9%), passing yards (36,164) and passer rating (98.2) -- all records he took the crown from Romo to vault to the top of the list. The record holder in a few of these before Romo was Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman. Statistically, Prescott is now cemented among those two and Hall of Famer Roger Staubach in Cowboys history. "I appreciate those guys having a relationship with both of them [Romo and Aikman]. ... Whether it's playing with Tony for a year or just working with Troy through charity events and just getting to talk to him on production calls, super thankful for those guys obviously being there for me if I ever needed them and lending a hand and setting a standard," Prescott said. ... "It's made this job that much more fun. It's made you guys holding me to a standard that I appreciate and makes me be accountable. So yeah, without those guys, there would be no record and thankful for them putting it there. But like I said, excited to break it, get it past and keep building."
