Rams dominate second half, defeat Chargers 24-9
The Rams’ offense looked ugly for much of the first half of Sunday’s cross-town matchup with the Chargers. But the Rams took the lead with a successful two-minute drive and ended up scoring 21 unanswered points to win 24-9. The Rams did not have a first down until Matthew Stafford connected with Tutu Atwell for a 40-yard gain down the left side with 1:26 remaining in the half. That led to Kyren Williams’ 1-yard touchdown with 19 seconds remaining in the second quarter. Then the Rams doubled up with Blake Corum’s 23-yard touchdown run at the start of the second half, putting the team up 17-9. Following Justin Herbert’s second interception of the day, Puka Nacua took a screen pass 18 yards for a touchdown to give the Rams a 15-point advantage. Nacua ended the day with 11 receptions for 80 yards on 12 targets. Matthew Stafford finished 17-of-25 for 157 yards with a touchdown and an interception. While the Rams had just 10 yards rushing at the end of the first half, they ended up with 129 with a strong performance in the second half. Corum led with 73 yards on 11 carries with a TD while Williams had 56 yards on 16 carries. It was another ugly day for Herbert and the Chargers’ offense, which did not reach the end zone on the day. Herbert finished 24-of-32 for 257 yards with two picks. Quentin Lake had the first pick during the first quarter, leading to a Brandon McManus 30-yard field goal. Trent McDuffie had the second pick. Ladd McConkey led with four catches for 86 yards. The Rams do have a pair of injury concerns at cornerback. First Jaylen Watson had to exit and did not return with a shoulder issue. Then McDuffie suffered a back injury and had to be sidelined. The Rams have now won back-to-back games for the first time this season. At 4-4, the Rams will be on the road to face the Commanders in Week 9. At 0-7, the reeling Chargers will be at home to face the Texans next weekend

While the Rams’ offense was largely listless for the first 30 minutes of Sunday’s game against the Chargers, the team woke up late in the second quarter. The Rams lead the contest between the two Los Angeles teams 10-9 at halftime. The Rams did not have a first down until Matthew Stafford connected with Tutu Atwell for a 40-yard gain down the left side with 1:26 remaining in the half — putting the Rams at the Chargers’ 17-yard line. From there, Stafford hit Puka Nacua for a 13-yard gain to the 1-yard line. Kyren Williams bounced his way into the end zone with a 1-yard run, with Brandon McManus connecting on the extra point to give the Rams a one-point advantage. Stafford finished the first half 10-of-14 for 95 yards with an interception. Nacua leads with seven catches for 40 yards. With so few plays, the Rams had just five rushing attempts in the half. Blake Corum had three for 8 yards while Williams had just two for 2 yards with the TD. On the other side, Justin Herbert threw an interception on the Chargers’ third drive. But after that, he led the team to three consecutive field goals, with Cameron Dicker hitting from 34, 46, and 41 yards. The Chargers nearly scored on their last drive of the half on a Hail Mary, but by the time Ladd McConkey could get possession of the football, he was outside the end zone and the second quarter was over. Herbert was 14-of-20 for 181 yards with an interception in the first half. McConkey leads with four catches for 86 yards. The Rams have just 90 yards of offense to the Chargers’ 219. But they will have a chance to double up, as the Rams will receive the second-half kickoff

After a particularly disappointing loss last week and a wave of injuries, the Rams got their groove back against the Raiders on Sunday. Los Angeles defeated Las Vegas 35-21 with a strong overall performance in the desert. The Rams were particularly effective on the ground, and the club would have rushed for over 200 yards if not for kneel-downs at the end of the game. Kyren Williams led the way with 99 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown, while Blake Corum had 93 yards on 17 carries with a TD. Matthew Stafford became the Rams’ all-time leader in touchdown passes with his three first-half scoring strikes on Sunday, surpassing Roman Gabriel. He finished the contest 23-of-29 passing for 195 yards with the three scores and an interception — a pass that went right off of Colby Parkinson’s hands and into the waiting arms of Nakobe Dean. Despite dealing with a calf injury, Puka Nacua caught eight passes for 68 yards with a touchdown while also rushing for 10 yards on two carries. Tight end Davis Allen caught Stanford’s other two touchdowns in the first half. L.A. punted on its first possession, but after that scored four straight touchdowns to take a 28-6 lead into halftime. Things got a little hairy for the Rams in the second half, with a Kyren Williams fumble and the interception preventing the team from scoring more. But after Kirk Cousins’ 15-yard touchdown pass to Ashton Jeanty narrowed the Rams’ lead to 28-18, L.A. put the game away with a 12-play, 70-yard drive that ended on Corum’s 4-yard touchdown run. Cousins finished the game 26-of-44 for 295 yards with two touchdowns. Tre Tucker caught five passes for 103 yards with a TD. Jeanty had just 15 yards rushing on eight carries, though he also had 61 yards receiving on eight catches. Brock Bowers finished with 73 yards on six catches. Now at 3-4, the Rams will be back at SoFi Stadium for a matchup against the cross-town Chargers in Week 8. After starting 3-0, the Raiders have now fallen to 3-4.
