Coach Hafley confirms Malik Willis will remain the Dolphins’ starting quarterback, dismissing speculation of a switch to Kyle McCord
Dolphins defensive lineman Kenneth Grant is set to make his 2026 debut. Grant was activated from injured reserve on Saturday, which clears the way for him to play against the Bengals on Sunday. He has been sidelined by a toe injury. The Dolphins took Grant with the 13th overall pick in the 2025 draft. He had 33 tackles and two sacks during his rookie season. Quarterback Brady Cook was waived to make room for Grant on the 53-man roster. Kyle McCord is now the sole backup to Malik Willis in Miami. The Dolphins also announced that they have elevated defensive end Rodney McGraw and running back Carlos Washington

The Dolphins cut quarterback Mark Gronowski from the practice squad on Tuesday. He initially signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on May 8, but the Dolphins cut him on Sunday. Gronowski re-signed to the practice squad on Monday. His departure leaves only Malik Willis and Kyle McCord in the quarterbacks room. The Dolphins announced the signings of eight players to their practice squad, including a pair of former first-round picks. Pass rusher Clelin Ferrell and defensive lineman Mazi Smith entered the NFL as first-rounders. The Jets cut Smith on Sunday, and Ferrell was with the Dolphins in training camp before his release. The Dolphins also signed inside linebacker Liam Anderson, edge Amari Gainer, defensive lineman Jordan Miller, wide receiver Will Sheppard, cornerback Jaylin Simpson and tight end Tre Watson to their practice squad
Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley confirmed Tuesday that McCord will begin the season as the team's No. 2 quarterback, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports. Miami bolstered its quarterback room by claiming Brady Cook off waivers Monday, but he'll occupy the third spot on the depth chart while McCord serves as the top backup to Malik Willis. Acquired from the Packers over the weekend in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round pick, McCord is coming off an impressive preseason in which he completed 46 of 70 pass attempts (65.7 percent) for 446 yards and a 4:0 TD:INT over three games. The 23-year-old is still waiting to make his NFL debut, as he spent all of last season on the Eagles' practice squad after failing to make the roster as a rookie sixth-round pick
The Miami Dolphins traded for quarterback Kyle McCord on Sunday, sending a 2028 sixth-round pick to the Green Bay Packers, and on Tuesday head coach Jeff Hafley confirmed that McCord would serve as the team's second quarterback. McCord was a sixth-round pick of the Eagles in 2025 who signed a reserve/futures contract with the Packers in January and performed well in three 2026 preseason games. Hafley and Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan both arrived in Miami from Green Bay, so McCord faces less of a learning curve in his transition, and he will begin the year backing up former Packer Malik Willis. The Dolphins traded away Quinn Ewers on Sunday and are one of the league's few teams to begin the year with only two quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster

As of Saturday, Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said he thinks it’s likely the team will keep two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. But it will be only one of the four quarterbacks who were on the roster 24 hours ago. With Quinn Ewers traded to the Jaguars and Cam Miller waived, the Dolphins reportedly will also waive Mark Gronowski . And they’ll replace him with Kyle McCord. The Dolphins have agreed to send a 2028 sixth-round pick to the Packers for McCord, who was signed to a futures contract by the Packers on January 20. For Miami, which is now led by former Packers executive Jon-Eric Sullivan and former Packers defensive coordinator Hafley, the move taps into the Green Bay pipeline. And it gives the Dolphins their apparent backup to Malik Willis — even though McCord is arriving with no practice or preseason reps in Miami. (However, as Mike Garafolo of NFL Network notes, the move reunites McCord with former Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, who is now the passing game coordinator in Miami.) As to Gronowski, he’ll reportedly be added to the Miami practice squad, if/when he clears waivers
