Willis made just one appearance during the Dolphins' three-game preseason slate. Willis started the team's exhibition opener at Washington on Aug. 14, leading a 14-play drive that culminated in a De'Von Achane one-yard TD run. During the possession, Willis was a crisp 4-for-5 passing for 43 yards and also had two carries for nine yards. He parlayed a successful two-year stint as Jordan Love's backup in Green Bay into a three-year, $67.5 million contract this offseason, and while Willis' brief game action last month was encouraging, outside of top RB Achane, Miami doesn't boast much in terms of skill-position talent, as Malik Washington will be the No. 1 WR to begin the 2026 season

Caleb Douglas has earned significant buzz during training camp and preseason, making him a potential late-round fantasy pick. Despite concerns about the Dolphins' offense and quarterback Malik Willis' accuracy, Douglas is positioned to be a Week 1 starter and could lead the team in receiving due to a weak wide receiver room
The Dolphins cut quarterback Mark Gronowski from the practice squad on Tuesday. He initially signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent on May 8, but the Dolphins cut him on Sunday. The Miami Dolphins traded for quarterback Kyle McCord on Sunday, sending a 2028 sixth-round pick to the Green Bay Packers, and on Tuesday head coach Jeff Hafley confirmed that McCord would serve as the team's second quarterback. McCord was a sixth-round pick of the Eagles in 2025 who signed a reserve/futures contract with the Packers in January and performed well in three 2026 preseason games. Hafley and Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan both arrived in Miami from Green Bay, so McCord faces less of a learning curve in his transition, and he will begin the year backing up former Packer Malik Willis. The Dolphins traded away Quinn Ewers on Sunday and are one of the league's few teams to begin the year with only two quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster

The 12 most surprising NFL roster cuts, including Will Levis and Jaydon Blue
The Miami Dolphins have acquired Kyle McCord from the Green Bay Packers in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round pick
As of Saturday, Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said he thinks it’s likely the team will keep two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. But it will be only one of the four quarterbacks who were on the roster 24 hours ago. With Quinn Ewers traded to the Jaguars and Cam Miller waived, the Dolphins reportedly will also waive Mark Gronowski . And they’ll replace him with Kyle McCord. The Dolphins have agreed to send a 2028 sixth-round pick to the Packers for McCord, who was signed to a futures contract by the Packers on January 20. For Miami, which is now led by former Packers executive Jon-Eric Sullivan and former Packers defensive coordinator Hafley, the move taps into the Green Bay pipeline. And it gives the Dolphins their apparent backup to Malik Willis — even though McCord is arriving with no practice or preseason reps in Miami. (However, as Mike Garafolo of NFL Network notes, the move reunites McCord with former Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, who is now the passing game coordinator in Miami.) As to Gronowski, he’ll reportedly be added to the Miami practice squad, if/when he clears waivers
Miami adds McCord to back up Malik Willis after trading away Quinn Ewers and releasing Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski
