Saints WR Barion Brown shines in Paris

The rookie made the most of his opportunities as both a receiver and return specialist

Steelers running back Jaylen Warren has been the focal point of the offense this season, and it was no different today against the Saints in Paris. Warren made big plays both running the ball and catching passes out of the backfield as the Steelers won 16-10. On a day when both quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers and Tyler Shough, were find but not spectacular, the difference was the running game: Warren and Rico Dowdle consistently picked up yardage against the Saints’ defense, while Saints running backs Alvin Kamara and Kendre Miller could do nothing against the Steelers’ defense. Warren finished with 18 carries for 101 yards and three catches for 36 yards. Dowdle added nine carries for 41 yards and six catches for 45 yards. Kamara had six carries for five yards and Miller had eight carries for six yards against a Steelers front that was dominant all game. Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen had a big day. Rodgers also made his presence felt running the ball, with an eight-yard run on third-and-6 just before the two-minute warning to keep the Steelers’ game-clinching drive alive. In addition to losing the game, the Saints lost safety Justin Reid left the game with a concussion, and running back CJ Donaldson left the game with a shoulder injury. Saints wide receiver Barion Brown had a big day in a losing effort, leading the team with 57 receiving yards and also having a 42-yard kickoff return and 20-yard punt return. The win improves the Steelers’ record to 5-2 and they’re in the thick of the race in the very competitive AFC North. The Saints fall to 2-5, and they’re not out of it in the NFC South

Chris Olave set to play, Alvin Kamara questionable for Saints

The Saints will have wide receiver Chris Olave in the lineup against the Vikings on Sunday. Head coach Kellen Moore told reporters at Friday’s press conference that Olave is good to go despite being in a walking boot after Thursday’s practice. Olave’s foot was stepped on, but he was able to fully participate in the team’s final practice of the week. Running back Alvin Kamara (back) also practiced on Friday, but he’s been listed as questionable for Sunday. Safety Julian Blackmon (shoulder), wide receiver Barion Brown (thigh), and defensive lineman Christen Miller (toe) are in the same category. The Saints have ruled out linebacker Kaden Elliss (calf), linebacker Anfernee Jennings (knee), and guard Jeremiah Wright (concussion)

Saints quarterback Tyler Shough had his left hand hit in Monday night’s loss to the Falcons but played all 74 snaps. Shough had his hand wrapped Wednesday, and the team listed him as limited in practice. But Saints coach Kellen Moore and Shough downplayed the quarterback’s presence on the injury report. “Yeah, just something to keep working on,” Shough said, via video from the team. “Just got it banged up in the game. Nothing different than anybody else is dealing with quite honestly. Just bumps and bruises and stuff like that.” Shough said he will play Sunday against the Vikings. “It’s a shorter week, so I’m obviously sore today, but it’s not going to limit me really at all,” he said. Saints defensive end Chase Young (calf) returned to full participation at Thursday’s practice. Young was limited on Wednesday. Defensive lineman Nathan Shepherd (hip) and safety Jonas Sanker (knee) were also back as full participants. The Saints added defensive lineman Davon Godchaux (rest) and running back Kendre Miller (illness) to the injury report as non-participants. Running back Travis Etienne remained a limited participant due to a hamstring injury. Etienne signed with the Saints this offseason and has 17 carries and 71 yards through the first two games. Barion Brown Keeps Climbing After Strong Summer

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Barion Brown came into camp with special teams doing most of the heavy lifting for his roster case. That changed pretty quickly. Kellen Moore praised the sixth-round rookie after a standout practice in early August, and Brown kept showing up in New Orleans' camp coverage over the next several days. He carried some of that into the preseason, catching four passes for 53 yards against Jacksonville before scoring on a jet sweep in the finale against Dallas. Jordyn Tyson's hamstring injury has opened the door even wider. Tyson will miss at least four games on injured reserve, and the Saints kept only four receivers on their initial 53-man roster. Their current unofficial depth chart now has Brown with the first team at one receiver spot, along with both return jobs. RotoBaller still has him way down at WR129 in half-PPR formats, so this remains a deep-league play. Brown just looks a lot more likely to see offensive snaps than he did when camp opened
