Upset win for Jets could be the start of something big
Despite a 0-5 start and poor underlying metrics, the Titans are sticking with second-year QB Cam Ward. Historical data on first-round QBs shows Ward ranks near the bottom in EPA per dropback, yards per attempt, and offensive success rate through his first 22 starts, raising questions about the team's long-term commitment to him
The Arizona Cardinals have traded Marvin Harrison Jr., the 4th overall pick in 2024, to the Houston Texans. Harrison is now part of an exclusive group of top-5 draft picks traded before their fourth season, a trend that has historically not fared well. The article reviews other similar cases, including Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Jeff Okudah, and Sam Darnold, examining their performance before and after their respective trades
The Saints will not have tight end Noah Fant for Monday Night Football. Fant is among the team’s inactives. He was questionable to play with an abdominal injury. Rookie Oscar Delp should see more snaps behind starter Juwan Johnson. The Saints’ other inactives are quarterback Zach Wilson, cornerback Decamerion Richardson (shoulder), edge rusher Anfernee Jennings (knee), defensive lineman Christen Miller (toe), linebacker Kaden Elliss (calf) and edge rusher Carl Granderson (ankle). Wilson is the emergency third quarterback. The Falcons will have linebacker Divine Deablo and edge rusher Samson Ebukam. Both were questionable with hamstring injuries. The Falcons’ inactives are quarterback Cooper Rush, quarterback Jack Strand, offensive tackle Ethan Onianwa, defensive lineman Jared Ivey, cornerback Robert Longerbeam and cornerback Malcolm DeWalt IV. Rush will serve as the emergency third quarterback

Colorado lost its second consecutive game today, and afterward head coach Deion Sanders said he’s struggling to figure out why his team’s results aren’t what they should be. “We’re better than this. It seems as though we’re better than our opponents, but the score does not dictate that. And that’s the fascinating thing, we’ve got to find out why,” Sanders said. With Colorado struggling at halftime, Sanders benched starting quarterback Julian Lewis and replaced him with Isaac Wilson. Lewis was a highly touted recruit out of high school last year but so far hasn’t lived up to expectations at Colorado. Wilson, who transferred to Colorado this year after two years at Utah, is the brother of Saints quarterback Zach Wilson. Lewis was 11-for-16 for 75 yards when he was benched. Wilson played slightly better, completing 12 of 25 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown. Sanders has still never found a quarterback as good as his son, Shedeur, who started for Deion for two years at Jackson State and then two more years at Colorado. Overall, Deion’s college coaching record is 36-14 with Shedeur as his quarterback and 9-15 without his son. This year, Colorado is 2-2, and the schedule only gets tougher, with No. 11 Texas Tech and No. 15 Utah the next two opponents on the schedule. Sanders has an uphill battle ahead of him to get his team turned around

A report on Sunday morning indicated cornerback Joey Porter Jr. was unlikely to be in the Steelers’ lineup for their season-opening game against the Falcons and official word on his status came 90 minutes before kickoff in Pittsburgh. Porter is officially inactive for the game. Porter was listed as questionable with a back injury after spending all of training camp on the physically unable to perform list. Porter’s inactivity this summer was also thought to be connected to his desire for a contract extension that never came together. That has reportedly opened the door to a trade as the Steelers have a team policy against negotiating contracts during the regular season. Updates on where things stand with Porter for Week 2’s game against the Patriots and beyond will likely come this week. For Sunday, though, he’ll just be a spectator. Zach Wilson made a good case for the Saints’ backup quarterback job in the team’s first preseason game, but his second outing did not go as well. Wilson started against the Rams on Saturday after replacing Spencer Rattler in the opener, but failed to put any points on the board while going 6-of-12 for 55 yards and an interception. Rattler was 14-of-23 for 141 yards, but he also threw an interception in the red zone that was returned for a 100-yard touchdown during the 34-0 loss. After the game, head coach Kellen Moore said he feels both quarterbacks have had good camps but that Saturday’s game was “a big-time missed opportunity.” “We’re gonna have to watch the film really closely,” Moore said. “Gut reaction is obviously we want to accomplish more as an offense. . . . We pushed these guys this week, we challenged them with some big-time opportunities with some joint practices and this game. I love the work collectively that we got over the course of the week. It’s just obviously we missed an opportunity here. I’ve got to prepare our guys better, I’ve got to get our guys ready to go for this opportunity.” The Saints will close out the preseason against the Dolphins on Friday and Moore will be looking for at least one of the quarterbacks to make more of their chance this time around
