Quarterbacks make the football world go round. Every NFL season possesses quarterbacks that break out to ascend to new heights, like 2025 NFL MVP runner-up Drake Maye , as well as new lows like Minnesota Vikings 2024 10th overall pick J.J. McCarthy , a passer who ranked dead last in completion percentage (57.6%), touchdown-to-interception ratio (11-12) and passer rating (72.6) in 2025. So, which quarterbacks' respective values are a little overinflated or underinflated entering 2026? Here is a look at some of the top selections for the most overrated and underrated quarterbacks, including the "Madden NFL 27" cover man. Caleb Williams is the NFL's biggest rollercoaster passer. The highs can be incredibly high. He helped lead the Bears back from a franchise-record 18-point deficit in a 31-27 wild-card round win over the archrival Green Bay Packers , and he helped force overtime against the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round with a miracle, fourth-down touchdown heave. Those miracle plays, and his 3,942 yards passing to set Chicago's single-season passing yards record, positioned him to be on the cover of "Madden NFL 27" this summer. However, the high level of universal praise for Williams as the first Bears quarterback with a pulse since, perhaps, the pre-2010 NFC championship game Jay Cutler is a little much. The reason Chicago fell behind in both of their 2025 playoff games and lost in overtime to the Rams is because of Williams' inefficiency. He morphed into a turnover machine in the postseason, throwing two interceptions while completing just 24 of his 48 passes (50%) in the win against the Packers before throwing three more interceptions on 23 of 42 passing (54.8%) against Los Angeles. The third interception against the Rams came in overtime and doomed the Bears to defeat. That extreme level of inefficiency in the postseason wasn't an outlier. He led the NFL in 2025 with 12 games possessing a completion percentage of 60% or lower, and no other quarterback registered a double-digit number of games in that category. Cam Ward was the closest with eight such games. The Bears' signal caller finished the 2025 regular season with a 58.1% completion percentage, the second-worst in the league among 33 qualified quarterbacks. He finished ahead of only Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy and his 57.6% figure -- one that was so bad they brought in Arizona Cardinals castoff Kyler Murray to compete with their former 10th overall pick quarterback for the starting job. Williams' fundamentals still need plenty of polishing. Williams' potential is tantalizing because he clearly possesses a high ceiling thanks to phenomenal arm talent and mobility. However, the hope and buzz about Williams currently outpace the reality of his latest on-field performance last season. Bo Nix is an incredibly unique quarterback. He led the NFL with 612 passing attempts in 2025, but he failed to crack 4,000 yards passing, thanks to an average of 6.4 yards per attempt that ranked 28th among 33 qualified quarterbacks. That average was sandwiched in between washed versions of Aaron Rodgers (6.7 yards per pass attempt) and Kirk Cousins (also 6.4 yards per pass attempt). Nix's inconsistencies helped produce sluggish victories against the Kansas City Chiefs ' third-string quarterback, Chris Oladokun , on Christmas in Week 17 (20-13), and a 19-3 home win over the Los Angeles Chargers ' backups. The young quarterback's lumps directly led to Denver struggling to consistently drive the football down the field. Three of the top four teams with the most punts in the 2025 regular season -- the Browns (93), Titans (78) and Raiders (74) -- missed the playoffs and fired their respective head coaches . The fourth team in that group is Nix's Broncos, with 75 punts. He benefits from a strong offensive line and a strong defense. There’s some buzz surrounding Caleb Williams this week due to him being picked by a poll of coaches, scouts, and executives as a top 10 quarterback in the league, so I wanted to check the pulse of Chicago Bears fans and get their expectations for him this season. As we all know, Caleb set the franchise record for passing yards a season ago, with 3,942, breaking Erik Kramer’s 30-year-old record of 3,838. Williams’ was done in a 17-game season, so he averaged 8 fewer yards per game (231.9) than Kramer (239.9), who set his record in 16 games. The all-time Bears record for passing yards per game in a season — NFL rules dictate that a player must average 14 pass attempts per team game to qualify for a single-season mark — is Brian Griese, who averaged 257.7 yards per game in 2007. He only played in 7 games that year, but his 262 attempts qualify him. In 2014, Jay Cutler averaged 254.1 passing yards per game in 15 games, and he looked to be a lock to break Kramer’s record, but Marc Trestman benched him for their week 16 game. That benching still annoys me. In year two of the offense, Caleb should see an uptick in production, so do you see him breaking the untouched in the Windy City 4,000-yard passing mark? Hello, Chicago Bears Fans! For this 30-day challenge, we are exploring the absolutely worst hot take on the Chicago Bears. There are so many great candidates. The “Caleb is a bust” after his first season. The obsession over Caleb’s completion percentage, trying to take away from his amazing second season spent with Ben Johnson. But for me, the worst hot take, in my time as a fan of the Chicago Bears, has to be the “Jay Cutler is soft” hot takes from the 2010 NFC Championship game when Cutler was forced to leave the game due to an injury to his MCL, and the Bears would go on to lose the game with their backup QB starting the second half. Let’s take you back. It is 2011 (the game was played in January), and the Chicago Bears are facing off against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game for the trophy named after Papa Bear George Halas and the right to go to the Super Bowl. The stakes could not be higher. Prior to that game, the Bears had only met the Packers in the post-season once, in 1941. The Bears had traded two first-round picks to the Denver Broncos for Jay Cutler, and Cutler brought his gunslinger approach to the quarterback position to the Windy City. The Packers would be staked to an early 14-0 lead, with Aaron Rodgers running the ball in from the one-yard line, and a James Starks four-yard touchdown run. However, despite Green Bay ’s early offensive success, the game was a defensive grind, with each of the teams combining for 17 punts and five interceptions. A major component of this was the fact that Jay Cutler was injured on a deep pass to Johnny Knox that was intercepted by Sam Shields . He would attempt to play in the third quarter but managed only one series before he left, never to return to the game. The Bears initially put in backup quarterback Todd Collins, who would prove ineffective. The Bears then went to Caleb Haine, who got the Bears on the board with a touchdown. But he made a crucial mistake that essentially cost the Bears the game, throwing an interception to B.J. Raji , who returned it for a touchdown, putting the Packers up 21-7. While the Bears would tack on another TD, the game ended on another Sam Shields interception with the Bears down 21-14 and the ball on the Packers 29-yard line. The crushing loss was one thing, and certainly, there was a lot to unpack from the game. But immediately, analysts and some former players began calling out Jay Cutler for being “soft” for not returning to the game in the second half. Many NFL players took to Twitter (now X) to publicly question his toughness. Maurice Jones-Drew said “Hey I think the urban meyer rule is effect right now… When the going gets tough……..QUIT” and “all I’m saying is that he can finish the game on a hurt knee .. I played the whole season on one.” Two Hall of Fame players, Derrick Brooks and Deion Sanders, weighed in . Brooks said, “FOX HAVEN’T SHOWED ANY TRAINERS LOOKING AT CUTLER, UMMM.” While Deion Sanders tweeted, “I better see dr andrews operate live on Cutler and Collins tonight after the game on NFL Network. Truth.” And “Folks i never question a players injury but i do question a players heart. Truth.” Darnell Dockett tweeted that Jay Cutler shouldn’t be allowed to dress in the locker room with the rest of the team after the game, with the hashtag “FACT” punctuating his point. Matt Schaefer accused Jay Cutler of quitting during the NFC championship game, even after an MRI revealed that Cutler had torn his MCL in the game (which is likely why he had proved ineffective while he was on the field). “In my eyes, it is not only a matter of questioning Cutler’s toughness, but also his competitiveness.” All of it was utterly ridiculous. Cutler’s injury was significant and serious – a Grade II MCL tear in his left knee that left him immobile and unable to plant and throw – really important things for your starting quarterback in a championship game. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to run through the greatest Denver Broncos players of all-time by position. Naturally, I should start with the easiest Top 2 then we can all argue about the other three on this list. Yes, I will already have Bo Nix in the top three after just two seasons. The reason is pretty simple: there haven’t been that many great quarterbacks in Broncos’ history. The only two that maybe deserve to be on this list is Craig Morton and Tim Tebow . And those two would make the list for entirely different reasons. Instead, I went with Kubiak because he was instrumental in all three of the Super Bowl championships that we’ve enjoyed. Plummer then makes the cut above the rest as he is likely the best in actual quarterbacking skill compared to the rest of the options available. John Elway Peyton Manning Bo Nix Gary Kubiak Jake Plummer I also pinged the rest of the Mile High Report staff for their opinions on the matter. Here is where they stand: Scotty Payne: Probably the easiest list to do. Elway and Manning don’t need any explaining, Bo Nix is the present and the future, Jake Plummer was fun, and Tebow had a magical season, won a playoff game, and helped the Broncos land Manning. John Elway Peyton Manning Bo Nix Jake Plummer Tim Tebow Chris Hart: John Elway and Peyton Manning are head and shoulders above the rest of the list for obvious reasons. Hall of Fame players who helped deliver the franchise’s three Super Bowl victories. Prior to the arrival of Elway, Craig Morton was the Broncos’ all-time passing leader in his six seasons with Denver compiling a 41-23 record. Jake Plummer, despite eventually being replaced by Jay Cutler in 2006, had an underrated 39-15 record as a starter. Entering his third season, Bo Nix is the future of the franchise and seems destined to climb up the Broncos’ all-time passing record marks in short order. John Elway Peyton Manning Craig Morton Jake Plummer Bo Nix Ian St. Clair: The first two are obvious. They’re two of the best QBs to ever play in the NFL. Nix passes the eye test and just out-dueled Josh Allen for an incredible playoff OT win. Morton was integral to the Broncos having its best season in franchise history at the time in 1977. While Plummer brought stability and leadership to the QB position. He also helped lead the Broncos to a playoff win over Tom Brady . John Elway Peyton Manning Bo Nix Craig Morton Jake Plummer Ross Allen: It’s almost odd to me that a team with such a long and storied history and winning record doesn’t have a long list of talented quarterbacks. The first two are easy picks, but then the last three can be a little harder to determine. Bo Nix has all of the ability to be the third-best. Morton’s impact on the earlier years of this franchise is undeniable. And Tebow might be a stretch to some, but that 2011 season was electric and he did help lead Denver to a playoff win over the 12-4 Steelers , the defending AFC champs. John Elway Peyton Manning Bo Nix Craig Morton Tim Tebow Sadaraine: This list fairly easily writes itself. I’ll have Morton higher on my list because I appreciate the history of the franchise before I was a fan more than most fans. And yes, Bo Nix belongs on this list. He’s going to be a Bronco for a very long time and has a decent chance to move up the list over the course of his career. John Elway Peyton Manning Craig Morton Jake Plummer Bo Nix Laurie Lattimore-Volkmann: I was surprised at how hard it was to figure out No. 3-5! As much as I loved the Tebow season, he really does not belong on the top 5 all time. And even though Craig Morton doesn’t have the flashy career of the others, it was a completely different era and he was hugely important to this franchise for decades to come for helping lead the Broncos to their first Super Bowl. My All-Time Historical Bears Team: The Gary’s Bears

A few weeks ago, an idea was proposed to our staff to have a fantasy draft, with the draft pool consisting of all current and former Chicago Bears. Being a huge fan of fantasy football, I jumped at the idea. To me, this seemed like the ultimate fantasy lineup-building exercise. There were a total of 25 rounds, in total we would draft 11 offensive starters, 11 defensive starters, a kicker, a punter and a special team contributor of our choice. I’m here to explain my drafting strategy, break down my picks, and make my case as to why my team is the best of the 8 drafted. So without further ado, I present: The Gary’s Bears . In a snake draft format, I was given the 7th pick, and in my eyes it’s always better to be closer to #1 or #8, as the near back-to-back picks allows you to double up on value, and while being 7th might see a drop off of top end talent, it allows you to tackle needs better with better talent overall across the roster. Unfortunately, that rich history never really translated to the other side of the ball, and outside the offensive line and running back positions, the Bears have spent most of their 100+ year history struggling to find talent. My plan was simple: Focus on the offense, drafting them early and often to soak up as much of the franchise’s talent on that side of the ball as possible, and then fill the roster with strong defensive picks who were productive in their time with the Bears, as per the rules of the fantasy draft, you assume that production carries over to modern day. Then, anchor it with arguably one of the best MLB’s in NFL history. I did just this, as 11 of my first 12 picks all went to the offensive side of the ball. I drafted my quarterback first round, knowing that I did not want to be stuck with essentially any quarterback outside of maybe three guys in our history, surround him with playmakers, and stack the offensive line, not only protecting my quarterback, but also giving my backfield duo a fantastic line to block for them. R1, Pick 7: QB, Jay Cutler I had my eyes on one of two quarterbacks, Caleb Williams or Jay Cutler. And with Caleb going second overall, I was more than happy to find myself with Cutler at pick 7. Depending on how you look at things, Cutler is the franchise’s best quarterback, leading it in completions, yards, touchdowns, 4th quarter comebacks, and game-winning drives. Until Williams was drafted by the Bears in 2024, he possesses the most arm talent of any Bears quarterback to ever lace them up. R18, Pick 138: RB, Jordan Howard Most of the higher-end running backs were off the board early, but my logic was to build out the guys in front of your Running Back to make him that much better. Look at the dividends the investment in the line paid for Swift and Monangai just this past year. Howard spent just three years with the Bears, but he was steadily productive in that time averaging 1123 yards and 8 touchdowns a season. According to TMZ , the last time former star pass rusher Aldon Smith was spotted was feeding the homeless. That was hours before his sudden death. Unfortunately, there’s another clip from TMZ where Smith repeatedly said, “I’ve definitely had better days,” at a barbershop. In the video, you got the sense that Smith would’ve elaborated had it not been for the cameras. We’re going to focus on Smith in a positive light today. There’s no greater compliment than having two of the best left tackles to play the sport during the past 15 or so years call you the most difficult pass rusher they ever faced. That happened when Joe Staley was interviewing Trent Williams a couple of years ago. Both players counted to three before revealing, simultaneously answering “Aldon Smith.” Williams said, “When people ask me that, he’s the first face — not only his name. I just see him in his uniform, from the huddle, side view. Looking five yards, I just see those long arms. That’s what pops in my mind.” Smith had several incredible moments during his NFL career. He had 42 sacks in his first 43 games. As somebody who had to deal with insufferable Chicago Bears fans, watching Smith destroy that offense and the Bears to the tune of 5.5 sacks probably takes the cake for me. Who cares if it was Jason Campbell ? Jay Cutler , Justin Fields , Jim McMahon, or Rex Grossman wouldn’t have had a prayer against Smith that night. It was on Monday Night Football for the whole world to see, which made it better. The year before at Candlestick, in another primetime game, Smith put on a show as a rookie against the Steelers. He had 2.5 sacks against Ben Roethlisberger in a game where the broadcast joked that Aldon was responsible for the power outages because he was so dominant. One of Smith’s sacks was of the strip variety, thanks to his partner in crime, Justin Smith, gifting the Niners the ball inside the red zone. That was the game where Smith set the rookie record for sacks for the franchise. During the broadcast, Jon Gruden said, “Aldon Smith is going to the Hall of Fame if this game continues on much longer.” Teams are still chasing the Aldon prototype of a pass rusher. The long, gangly arms with an incredible first step. As a rookie, Smith sacked Drew Brees and Eli Manning in the playoffs. In a primetime game against Washington in 2023, he had two sacks against Trent Williams and a handful of other wins against the Hall of Famer to be. Each day in the month of June, we’ll roll out a fresh topic to get Chicago Bears fans thinking. Be sure to chime in with your answer in the comments so we can all get to know our WCG members a bit better. Maybe it’s not much of a surprise who I chose for this answer. After all, I do go by “Grim Cutty” on Twitter. That said, ask me this question again 10-15 years from now, I’m fairly confident that the answer to this question changes. I’ve never been more certain about a quarterback figuring things out and becoming the elite face of this franchise more than I have with Caleb Williams . But before that, lets take a step back and talk about my current all time favorite Chicago Bears quarterback: Jay Cutler. Drafted 11th overall in the 2006 draft by the Denver Broncos , Cutler was deemed a can’t miss quarterback prospect after he set essentially every record relating to quarterbacking at Vanderbilt. He impressed with his Brett Favre like arm strength and strength in general, as he set the then quarterback record for bench press reps at the combine, with 23. The Broncos saw enough in him to trade their 1st and 3rd round picks to move up to draft him. After a strong training camp and preseason, he was finally elevated to starting quarterback, taking his first start in week 13 of the 2006 season against the Seattle Seahawks . He threw his first 2 career touchdowns, including a late 71-yard touchdown to future Bears teammate Brandon Marshall to tie the game. Cutler would go on to make 37 starts for the Broncos, completing 62.5% of his passes while amassing 9,024 yards passing, 54 touchdowns, 37 interceptions and a 87.1 QB Rating. He would make the Probowl in the 2008 season, throwing for 4,526 yards, a franchise best. (Until Peyton Manning ) But his relationship soured with head coach Josh McDaniels after McDaniels attempted to trade Cutler in a three team trade to acquire Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel . Cutler in turn demanded a trade from the strained relationship, and the Chicago Bears jumped on the opportunity, sending quarterback Kyle Orton , two 1st round picks, and a 3rd round pick to Denver. In return Cutler became the face of the Chicago Bears franchise. Cutler immediately gave the Bears something the franchise had lacked for nearly 40 years, a bonafide franchise quarterback with elite arm talent. But it wasn’t all roses for Jay Cutler and the Bears. The 2009 season started rocky, with the Bears losing on the road against the Packers, 15-21. A game where Cutler threw 4 interceptions to just 1 touchdown. Interceptions would remain an issue for the gunslinger in 2009, where he recorded just 4 games without one, and threw multiple interceptions in 7 games, including 5 against the San Francisco 49ers in a 6-10 home loss. He did finish the year with 27 touchdown passes, the most since Erik Kramer’s 29 in 1995, but his 26 interceptions was the second most in franchise history, only to Sid Luckman’s 31 in 1947. But Cutler rebounded the following season, with a 23-16 TD-INT ratio, it would help the Bears win 11 games, and the NFC North. Cutler was brilliant in his playoff debut, throwing for 2 touchdowns and rushing for another two in a 35-24 win over the visiting Seattle Seahawks. But the run would end when Cutler tore his MCL in the NFC Championship against the hated Green Bay Packers. And unfortunately for the Bears and Jay Cutler, this would be the only time they would make the playoffs with Cutler under center. A myriad of issues seemed to follow Cutler every season. If it wasn’t his own performance, it was the lack of weapons around him. If it wasn’t the lack of weapons it was the shoddy offensive line in front of him. If it wasn’t the shoddy offensive line in front of him, it was a coaching staff that was rare put in place to help him success. While some teams are trading for future HOF defensive ends, most of us are existing in the doldrums of the offseason. Join us in our quest to provide the best Bears centered topics around. Our next topic? Mine is easy – my former college teammate Brandon Marshall who set the franchise record for most receiving yards (1,508) and receptions (118) in single season. If you have been around here long enough, you more than likely have seen me talk about how Brandon started at safety in college the year I was on the team and led the team in tackles. He was a freight train standing 6’5” and weighing 230lb playing safety and I was a walk-on, scout team RB. I could tell stories of taking a hit from Brandon in the B gap that I felt for days or somehow catching a wheel route with him in coverage despite not being able to see the ball until the last nano-second, but this article is about his WR play. After starting his career in Denver with Jay Cutler , B-Marsh reunited with Cutty in Chicago in 2012 and immediately broke records. Brandon played the position like a LB and it showed in his run after catch and blocking ability. Here he is laying out former All-Pro Sean Lee with a clean block. And here he is seen high-pointing the football, stiff arming defenders and plucking the ball in tight-coverage. Though he was not drafted by Chicago and he was only a Bear for three seasons, Brandon Marshall averaged 93 catches for 1,175 yards and 10 TDs a season as a Bear. Only Alshon Jeffery, Darnell Mooney and DJ Moore have come close to those numbers since, and most of them only one time. While Tom Waddle, Curtis Conway, Rome Odunze and now Luther Burden III all drew considerations here, Brandon was a helluva Bear and embraced the city and rivalry with the best of them. With the NFL schedule officially released tonight, it got me thinking about which games I would like to attend. That thought quicky trailed to games I have attended and finally to the question of the day: Which one was most unforgettable? For me, it would have to be Jay Cutler’s first game at Soldier Field as starting QB for the Bears. I was living in Denver at the time and like most of you, remember where I was and what I was doing when news broke of Jay Cutler being traded from the Denver Broncos to the Chicago Bears. I was ecstatic. Unable to reach out to all my friends and family because I was working as an EMT at the time, I had to resort to talking with local Broncos fans in various hospitals about the news. Doctors, nurses, firefighters and the like. To say our reactions were polar opposites would be an understatement. Jay was just 26 years old coming off a Pro Bowl season and universally considered one of the top young QBs in the entire league. Easily the most physically talented with the most potential of any QB that Chicago had ever had in my lifetime and we somehow landed him. I was fortunate enough to land tickets to the home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 20th, 2009 with my cousin who was and is to this day a massive Steelers fan. Chicago was 0-1 after the week 1 loss to Green Bay . Pittsburgh was 1-0 after an overtime win against the Titans and had an elite offense led by Ben Roethlisberger , Santonio Holmes , Rashard Mendenhall and Hines Ward. And we won. Pittsburgh went up 7-0 early with a TD catch by Matt Speath, but Chicago would respond with a TD pass to our own backup TE, Kellen Davis . After a Big Ben TD run, Smokin’ Jay would find Johnny Knox for another score to even the lead with 6 minutes left in the game. Pittsburgh would drive down the field and reach the 25 yard line but kicker Jeff Reid would miss the go ahead FG with 3 minutes to play. And then Jay took over much like we have seen Caleb Williams do in his young career thus far. Jay drove us down the field all the way to the Steelers 26 yard line, thanks in large part to his dual threat RB Matt Forte , to give Robbie Gould a chance for the game winner with just 20 seconds on the clock. Robbie nailed it. Good as Gould. Bears safety Craig Steltz would recover a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and Cutler would kneel the ball to ice the game. Bears win 17-14. I will never forget staying in my seats long after the stadium was empty, soaking in the atmosphere in a back and forth nail biter even though I am sure it doesn’t compare to any of the close games we witnessed this past season. That said, it was pretty cool to see Jay Cutler’s first game as a Bear in Chicago. And even cooler I got to experience it with my cousin. Definitely something I will never forget
