Texans activate WR Jaylin Noel from non-football injury list
Wide receiver Jaylin Noel has been cleared to start practicing at Texans training camp. Noel was activated from the non-football injury list on Monday morning. Noel injured his finger while working out before the start of camp. Noel was a third-round pick last season and he had 26 catches for 292 yards and two touchdowns during his rookie season. He also averaged 27.6 yards on kickoff returns and 10.2 yards on punt returns. The Texans also got Tank Dell back in practice this week and the two wideouts join Nico Collins, Jayden Higgins, Xavier Hutchinson, Justin Watson, and sixth-round pick Lewis Bond on the depth chart in Houston

Rookie Receiver Lewis Bond has Turned Heads in the Offseason
sleeper-rotoballerSource ↗
Houston Texans rookie sixth-round wide receiver Lewis Bond has made plays and has turned heads through the offseason, to the point where he already has an online team fanbase called the Lewis Bond Fan Club, according to DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN. The Boston College standout still has a ways to go heading into training camp, but he's a young receiver to watch going into his first year in the NFL. In his five years at Boston College, the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder had 2,385 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on 213 receptions across 46 games played. Even though he has stood out this offseason, Bond has a steep uphill battle to climb to make the 53-man roster going into Week 1 of the regular season, given Houston's crowded WR room. Nico Collins is the unquestioned WR1 of the group, but both second-year wideouts Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel figure to have bigger roles in Year 2. The Texans are also still hoping that Tank Dell (knee) can return from a devastating knee injury that kept him out for all of 2025. Bond will be battling Xavier Hutchinson and Justin Watson for a roster spot in training camp and the preseason

Houston Texans receivers ready to light up the stadium
The notion that no matter how good a wide receiver is, they won’t succeed without a solid quarterback arose during an engaging chat with a new friend yesterday. Not only is that thought intrinsic to the sport of football, it’s a great predictor of future success. Flip it around and you’ll quickly understand that Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud can put in all.the.work, but if he has no one to play catch with, it’s wasted effort. Thankfully, the Texans have a fairly stacked receiver corps rolling into the 2026 season. Nico Collins , Jayden Higgins , Tank Dell , Jaylin Noel and Xavier Hutchinson are likely the heart of this group. But, guys like Justin Watson may sneak in if someone in the current top 5 lets their game slip. Since head coach Demeco Ryans arrived on the scene, Collins (the 27 year old Birmingham Alabama native) has nailed 3-straight 1000-yard seasons. Those include 2 years in the NFL’s Top 10 receiver list, a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2025 and his supplanting of Texans great, Kevin Walter as the 3rd best receiver in Texans history. Nico still has a long way to go to catch the GOAT that is Andre Johnson , but his base stats are actually ahead of ‘Dre. His 15.0 yards per catch average is second only to Corey Bradford (15.3) in Texans history. Rolling into 2026, Collins is healthy, focused, and ready to continue his climb up the charts. Not only is he an every down threat, but his presence alone draws attention away from the other receivers on the field. Since Houston drafted Higgins in the 2nd round of the 2025 NFL Draft, he’s done nothing but work hard and cement his place across from Collins. The former Iowa State Cyclone caught 41 passes, gained 525 yards for a 12.8 yard/catch average and hit pay dirt 6 times last season. Stories out of OTAs and minicamp tell of a young man trying to emulate the focus and work ethic of Collins, and carry on the tradition started by Johnson. Higgins and Collins alone should provide Stroud with ample pitch and catch opportunities in 2026. But, as the saying goes, wait! There’s more! Former college teammate of Higgins, turned pro teammate, Noel is well-suited for the WR3 spot. Smaller, faster, more elusive, the sophomore speedster should have plenty of opportunities to supplant the oft-injured Tank Dell. As a rookie last season, Noel made the most of his 3 starts by catching 26 passes for 292 yards, compiling an 11.2 yard per catch average, 2 touchdowns and 13 first downs. While these numbers are far from Hall of Fame material, stepping into a support role last season, with all the struggles the Houston offense exhibited, didn’t exactly set him up for success. Anticipation is high that Noel’s sophomore campaign will be a rousing success. If you’ve not payed attention to the Demeco years in H-Town, Tank Dell and Stroud bonded in a pre-draft training group. The chemistry was, as they say, instant and electric. So much so that once Houston draft Stroud with their first overall selection, the young quarterback immediately lobbied Texans general manager, Nick Caserio, to draft Dell. The results were the sort of pulse-pounding excitement NFL fans love on game day. In his rookie campaign, Dell amassed 709 air yards, on 47 catches for a 15.1 yard per catch average. Along with that, he scored 7 touchdowns including a 68-yard catch he made look easy after blasting past the defenders like they were standing still. Unfortunately, Dell has seen more than his share of adversity since entering the NFL, including multiple significant injuries and a gunshot wound. His recent appearances at the Texans off-season programs have lit up the imagination of Texans fans hoping to see the Stroud-Dell fire reignited in 2026. Questions around his ability to get, and remain, healthy will unfortunately plague the young man over the foreseeable future. I’ve made no effort to hide my fondness for Xavier Hutchinson over the years. When this young man is on, he’s ON. Unfortunately, he’s not always turn [... truncated ...]

Houston Texans Rosterology: predicting the 53-man roster
Yahoo Sports NFLSource ↗
Welcome to the ninth year of the Houston Texans Rosterology. The longest-running article series on the site is back again to document the process of crafting the team’s initial 53-man roster. The Texans have been at OTAs this week, which gives us insight into the team’s initial depth chart and how the team plans to use some of their new additions. At the onset, this is the deepest roster I’ve ever had the pleasure of covering. I recall entering training camp in 2021, I only thought there were 40 roster-worthy players on the entire 90-man roster. This year? I have 63 players worthy of the 53-man roster. A truly incredible improvement. Similar to how NCAA Basketball’s Bracketology works, I’ll update the below with the Last Four (players) in the roster, the first four out, the biggest riser, and biggest faller. I’ll update this series every other Tuesday until the final 53-man roster is announced on Sunday, August 30th. Note: Rookies are in bold and UDFAs are italicized Alijah Huzzie , nickel Naquan Jones , DT Jamal Hill, LB Brevin Jordan , TE Justin Watson , WR Jarrett Patterson , OC/OG Cade Stover , TE Marte Mapu , LB The free agent defensive end holds a lot of weight in the room right now. He is the backup behind Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter even though he has only had a rotational role in his time in Chicago . Considering how productive Derek Barnett was in the same role last year, Robinson has high expectations and big shoes to fill. The Texans are demonstrating immense patience and trust in the new DE in a critical role by not adding another player to compete against him. Patterson has started 21 games over the past three seasons, but was thrown to the wolves when Houston drafted Kelyan Rutledge and Febechi Nwaiwu in the 2026 NFL Draft. Patterson’s lack of strength and power have limited him in the run game, and he struggled to protect Stroud throughout his career. Houston may quickly be looking to move on from the former sixth round pick. C.J. Stroud, Davis Mills CUT: Graham Mertz Analysis: I predict Houston will only keep two QBs on the roster and designate Mertz to the practice squad with the intention of elevating him up to the roster as the emergency QB throughout the season. Mertz’s development in year two and another season removed from his ACL tear will be an interesting talking point. With Mills facing the last year of his contract, can Mertz present enough of a case to eventually assume the backup QB role? David Montgomery , Woody Marks , British Brooks , Jawhar Jordan CUT: Noah Whittington, Josh Pitsenberger , Evan Hull Analysis: The Texans abstained from adding to this position in the draft. That saved Jordan’s role as the third RB… for now. He will compete with undrafted rookie Noah Whittington for the last roster spot. Whittington is a bowling ball and better fit for the new running scheme. Look for Whittington to earn reps throughout camp. British Brooks has waded through injury and multiple blocking schemes throughout the past two seasons. However, there are reports that TE Cade Stover could be switching to fullback. If that’s the case, the entire RB room could be upended. A lot of moving pieces in this room, but OTAs will shine light on this group over the next several days. Nico Collins , Tank Dell , Jayden Higgins , Jaylin Noel , Xavier Hutchinson , Lewis Bond CUT: Justin Watson, Jared Wayne , Daniel Sobkowics, Jalen Walthall, Treyvhon Saunders, Jha’Quan Jackson Analysis: Rookie Lewis Bond is impressing immediately. His ascension will put stress on veteran Justin Watson, who had his worst season of his career with Houston. The Texans would save $1.5M if they cut Watson. Watson’s role in the offense as a big slot option for Stroud, but that never materialized. Their battle this offseason will be an examination into winning now or building for the future in the WR room. Dalton Schultz , Marlin Klein , Foster Moreau , Brevin Jordan CUT: Cade Stover, Layne Pryor Analysis: La [... truncated ...]
