Jauan Jennings declined trade to return to 49ers after Vikings had framework set, per report
The 2026 NFL trade deadline has already been a dramatic one, as the Seattle Seahawks acquired an eight-time Pro Bowl offensive guard in Quenton Nelson , the Chicago Bears gave up two first-round picks for Tennessee Titans All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons , and the Houston Texans reunited C.J. Stroud with Marvin Harrison Jr . This week, we also saw a player decline to be moved! According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports , the Minnesota Vikings had a trade worked out that would send wide receiver Jauan Jennings back to the San Francisco 49ers . All Jennings had to do was hop on a FaceTime call with head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch and agree to return. However, Jennings declined, as he wants to stay in Minnesota! Jennings would rather stick with the undefeated Vikings, even if he's not a major part of Kyler Murray's passing attack. While Jennings has played 70.5% of offensive snaps this season, he's caught just FOUR passes for 43 yards in five games played. In five seasons with the 49ers, Jennings caught 210 passes for 2,581 yards and 22 touchdowns. He eventually became one of the most-trusted weapons for Brock Purdy , recording a career-high 975 yards receiving in 2024, and then a career-high nine touchdown receptions in 2025. Jennings ranked second on the team in receptions and receiving yards over the last two seasons, behind tight end George Kittle , and was tied with Kittle for the most receiving touchdowns over the past two seasons with 15. Jennings had more receptions (47) and receiving yards (546) on third down than any other 49er over the past two years, and led the team in red-zone targets, fourth-quarter targets and third-down targets. Jennings found himself in a contract dispute last summer, and even requested a trade out of San Francisco at one point. Eventually, he agreed to a modified deal based on incentives . After another impressive season in 2025, the former seventh-round pick out of Tennessee hit free agency expecting a payday. However, the market simply wasn't there, and Jennings agreed to a one-year deal with Minnesota worth up to $13 million. The 49ers could have used Jennings, as their wide receiver room is banged up right now with Mike Evans dealing with rib and Achilles ailments and Deebo Samuel sidelined by a hamstring injury. Falcons rookie Kendal Daniels goes from hospital to hero in a week
Falcons rookie linebacker Kendal Daniels left the field on a stretcher last Sunday. A week later, he left the field a hero of the Falcons’ 29-20 upset of the previously undefeated 49ers. “It’s been the craziest week of my life,” Daniels said, via Marc Raimondi of ESPN. “I’ve never not walked off the field after an injury. So, mentally, I had to be prepared and going back home and just making sure I was OK mentally more than anything and not playing timid, but I’ve never not gotten up from an injury. So, being stretched off the field -- I won’t let it happen again. It was a bad feeling, and I’m blessed to be able to play this week.” Last week, Daniels dove to tackle Bears tight end Colston Loveland in the third quarter and Daniels’ head collided with Loveland’s left leg. Medical personnel attended to Daniels for almost 8 minutes before sending him to a local hospital for further evaluation of his neck. On Sunday, Daniels iced the game with an interception of Brock Purdy. He also had nine solo tackles and a fumble recovery. Coach Kevin Stefanski called it “remarkable.” “I wasn’t thinking of [his neck injury],” Daniels said. “‘I think that was the last thing I was worried about was last week.”

Facing fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line on the first drive of the game today in Atlanta, San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan kept his offense on the field. Smart move. 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey took the handoff and leapt over the line for a one-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead. The touchdown capped a 10-play, 64-yard drive that saw McCaffrey do everything: He had four carries for 29 yards, and he caught both of Brock Purdy’s passes, for 40 receiving yards. McCaffrey totaled 69 yards on the 64-yard drive; the 49ers also lost five yards on a Trent Williams false start. The 49ers’ offense has been outstanding all season, and the Falcons are going to need to figure out an answer in a hurry

Are Chiefs, 49ers on collision course for third Super Bowl meeting? Here are teams that could stop them
Stop us if you've heard this before: The Chiefs and the 49ers are among the best teams in the NFL . Kansas City and San Francisco are a combined 11-0 and are two of the three remaining undefeated teams, joined by the 5-0 Vikings . Since 2019 — the season they first met in the Super Bowl — the Chiefs have the most wins (including playoffs) in the NFL, and the 49ers are third, behind the Chiefs and the Bills . Are we looking at a Chiefs-49ers Super Bowl for the third time in eight seasons? SportsLine projections currently have it as the most likely matchup for the Lombardi Trophy. These are the five most likely through six weeks: As you can see, none are particularly likely. That's because one, it's only Week 7, and two, any specific matchup is extremely unlikely until deep into the playoffs. SportsLine still gives eight AFC teams and seven NFC teams at least a 5% chance to make the Super Bowl. While the Chiefs and the 49ers are the favorites to emerge from their conferences, it's an extremely tight race. Let's dig in. The 49ers and Chiefs share one major strength: their offenses. They rank third and sixth, respectively, in points per drive. It starts with the rushing game. The 49ers lead the NFL in rushing success rate (a down-to-down measure), and the Chiefs lead the NFL in rushing expected points added (which takes into account situation and rewards big plays more). Kenneth Walker III has been a revelation for the Chiefs. They had the least explosive running back rush rate from 2024-25. This year, they are second in explosive rushing rate, and Walker leads the NFL with 665 rushing yards (despite having already had his bye week) and 6.3 yards per rush. His seven rushes of 20+ yards are tied for the most in the NFL. Both teams are also among the best passing teams in the NFL. San Francisco is second in net yards per attempt, and Kansas City is third. The 49ers have allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL (five); the Chiefs are second with six. While the 49ers aren't as explosive on the ground as the Chiefs are, they are more explosive through the air. San Francisco's explosive passing rate is third in the NFL. (The Chiefs are eighth, not far behind.) So, long story short, Brock Purdy and Patrick Mahomes are both playing excellent football, and both have great ecosystems — from play callers to offensive lines to running games — around them. Defensively, both teams do an excellent job of limiting explosive plays, and a big reason for that is sure tackling. The Chiefs have the lowest missed tackle rate in the NFL, and the 49ers are second. The Chiefs are also the best rush defense in the NFL by success rate. Both teams have been stout against the pass thanks to excellent cornerback play. For the Chiefs, second-year cornerback Nohl Williams has been terrific this year, as has first-round rookie Mansoor Delane . For San Francisco, it's Upton Stout , Deommodore Lenoir and Renardo Greene. So far this season, 79 players across the NFL have been the primary defender on at least 25 passes. The Chiefs also have the league's best run defense on a success rate basis. Add in significant star power, too — Chris Jones in Kansas City, Fred Warner in San Francisco, for example — and both teams have been among the NFL's best this year. The 49ers are dealing with so many injuries that they're running out of IR-designated return spots. Teams only get eight per year, so San Francisco has kept Nick Bosa (calf/knee), who hasn't played since Week 2 and would have normally gone on IR, on the active roster. When you can't get over .500 with the straight-up picks, you know it's a bad week. I went 6-8 straight up and 3-11 against the spread. I could flip a coin and do better. Both teams can score, which should make this a fun one to watch. I think the Patriots have the better defense and that will be the difference. They overcome the road to win a much-needed game. The Steelers have been the more consistent team this year, but the Saints looked good last week against the Giants . This will be tight, but the Steelers take it. Pick: Steelers 27, Saints 26 The 49ers are rolling as the league's best team, especially on offense. But losing Mike Evans will hurt. The Falcons couldn't stop the Bears last week, so what's to think they will slow down Brock Purdy ? They might not. But the Falcons will keep up. It's close. Pick: 49ers 30, Falcons 28 The Browns are 4-2 after beating Baltimore last week, while the Titans beat the Colts last week. Neither team is doing much on offense, which suggests this will be a low-scoring game. I think the Browns have a better defense, which will be the difference. They win it again on a late field goal. Pick: Browns 17, Titans 16 The Vikings are off a bye, while the Colts are off a terrible home loss to the Titans. That led to the firing of general manager Chris Ballard. Maybe that gives the Colts a bump. Beating the Vikings' defense will mean a lot of Jonathan Taylor . I think we see that as the Colts keep it close, but just miss out on the upset. Pick: Vikings 21, Colts 18 The Dolphins are off their bye in search of their first victory, while the Jets lost to the Patriots last week. The Jets have the better team and their defense should be able to limit the Miami offense. But the Dolphins play hard and will also play well on defense. It's close. Pick: Jets 19, Dolphins 17 The Bucs might have Baker Mayfield back for this one. That would be big. The Panthers are rolling on offense as Bryce Young is in the MVP conversation. It will stay that way, but the Bucs will hang around. Pick: Panthers 24, Bucs 23 The Bengals are coming off a bye, while the Ravens are coming off a loss to the Browns. They could have Lamar Jackson back from an ankle injury here, which certainly changes things. Even if he's back, I think Joe Burrow will have a big day throwing it. The improved Bengals defense will do the rest. Upset. Pick: Bengals 24, Ravens 23 Who starts at quarterback for the Giants? It should be J.J. McCarthy , but we will see. No matter who starts, the Texans ' defense is having issues. The Giants will move the ball. But they won't stop C.J. Stroud . He's on fire and that gets the Texans the victory. Pick: Texans 27, Giants 23 The Cardinals are coming off a big road upset of the Rams , while Denver beat Seattle last Thursday. The Denver offense has been lifeless so far this season. But the defense is still sticky. I think that defense will come up big, while Bo Nix finally makes some plays. It's close. Pick: Broncos 24, Cardinals 21 The Lions are coming off a bye, which they needed, while the Packers are coming off consecutive victories. They are playing much better on both sides of the ball. The two defenses will be challenged here, but the Lions will be the better offense at home coming off the bye. Lions win it by a tiny margin as both quarterbacks light it up.
