We’ve recently spent time forecasting the Philadelphia Eagles ’ depth chart for the 2026 NFL season. We started with the offense , moved on to the defense , and then finished up with the special teams unit . With OTAs starting up next week , here’s a prediction of who will actually make the final cut down to 53 players. We’ll continue to make updated projections throughout the rest of the offseason to reflect meaningful developments from practices and preseason games. ( For fun, take a look at my 53-man roster projection from this time last year .) QUARTERBACK: Jalen Hurts , Andy Dalton , Cole Payton (3) [3] The Eagles are expecting more from Hurts as a passer this season. It’ll be very interesting to see how he performs and how his future is impacted. The Eagles won’t trade Tanner McKee just to trade him but the guess here is that a team will eventually make a strong enough offer to acquire him. If McKee is gone, Dalton is clearly QB2. It’s been suggested that Payton could have a small role as a rookie ( Taysom Hill packages and/or Tush Push specialist) but he’ll likely be inactive as the emergency third quarterback … at best. It’s entirely possible he doesn’t even make the roster, just like Kyle McCord didn’t last year. RUNNING BACK: Saquon Barkley , Tank Bigsby , Will Shipley (3) [6] Barkley logged 136 fewer touches in 2025 than he took in 2024, so, it stands to reason he’ll be comparatively fresher for 2026. The question of his success is less about him, though, and more about the offensive line improving upon last season’s disappointment. Bigsby was an excellent ball carrier in limited action last season; he logged 5.9 yards per carry! But the Eagles oddly underutilized him and they shouldn’t do that again this year. The coaching staff seems to like Shipley as a dirty work guy (blocking, special teams) who might also contribute in two-minute drill situations. Dameon Pierce could contend for a roster spot but it doesn’t feel necessary to roster a fourth running back when the team could likely keep such a player on the practice squad. WIDE RECEIVER: DeVonta Smith , Makai Lemon, Dontayvion Wicks , Hollywood Brown , Darius Cooper (5) [11] Smitty is more than ready to take over as WR1 with A.J. Brown soon to be traded. I don’t think it’ll take us long to realize if Lemon is equipped to be a serious contributor as a rookie or not. I’m cautiously optimistic; it’ll be nice to see evidence of his talents translating to the NFL. Wicks is an underrated player who could thrive with more opportunity in Philly than he saw with the Packers . Brown’s deep threat ability and general veteran competence makes him worth keeping around. Wicks and Brown have combined for five career special teams snaps, so, they’re probably not going to help out in that category. The Eagles need to keep around a dirty work guy or two and Cooper showed he’s capable of playing that role last year while also flashing offensive potential. Johnny Wilson was a tough cut here; he was showing promise before suffering a season-ending injury in August. Would like to see him back on the field first before assuming he’ll pick up where he left off. Elijah Moore has never really been a special teams guy and there are too many players ahead of him on offense, so, he’s more realistically looking at a practice squad spot unless there are injury issues. The Eagles could try to have Britain Covey begin the season on the practice squad, which they’ve done in the past, and use up his temporary elevations early on to be their punt returner. Doing so would buy them time to open up a spot for him if they want him to stay around for the rest of the season. TIGHT END: Dallas Goedert , Eli Stowers , Johnny Mundt , Cameron Latu (4) [15] Goedert is still more than a capable pass-catcher but it remains to be seen what the Eagles will get out of him as a blocker. Stowers might have a smaller role than expected as a rookie; his college coaching staff only trusted him as a part-time p [... truncated ...]
The Eagles might consider drafting Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby in the supplemental draft due to his talent, despite his gambling addiction and potential NFL suspension. The team has a history of taking chances on players with off-field issues, and with veteran quarterbacks potentially leaving next offseason, Sorsby could be a low-risk, high-reward option
The official 2026 schedule for the Cincinnati Bengals has been released, and the excitement is palpable. Just as palpable, however, is the urgency behind the team this year. After missing the postseason for three straight seasons following two AFC Championship Games (and an appearance in Super Bowl LVI), the team made some major offseason moves to balance out the roster. It’s so obvious, but it bears repeating that the path to the playoffs for the Bengals is through the division. They can’t afford to go worse than 3-3 in the AFC North, with four or more wins likely needed to cement a playoff berth. The earlier-than-usual bye and rough midseason travel schedule are other factors to watch in Cincinnati’s season. Have they done enough this offseason to make an immediate leap back to the league’s elite in 2026? Week 1: Sunday, September 13—Buccaneers at Bengals, Paycor Stadium, 1 PM ET Cincinnati’s starts to seasons under Zac Taylor haven’t been the best since 2019, posting just a 2-5 record out of the gates. Furthermore, Baker Mayfield has seen a lot of success against the Bengals, sporting a 6-2 record as a starter against Cincinnati. Still, this one is a home opener, and the sense is the Bengals have regained a sense of purpose with a big offseason. The team is touting this one as an “Open in Orange” game once again, and while Week 1 contests are always weird and sloppy, Cincinnati should barely handle business here. Buccaneers 20, Bengals 23 — Win, 1-0 Week 2: Sunday, September 20—Bengals at Texans, NRG Stadium, 1 PM ET Cincinnati has had a not-so-great history against the Texans . Be it Andy Dalton ’s postseason stumbles against Houston in 2011 and 2012, or their inability to get a much-needed 2024 win at home, the Bengals have trouble with this team. DeMeco Ryans ’ defense is downright tenacious, which will likely lead to a frustrating day for the usually potent Bengals offense. Questions remain about the long-term viability of C.J. Stroud , but I don’t have a great feeling about this one so early in the year. Bengals 21, Texans 26 — Loss, 1-1 ___________________________________________________________ Check out 2026 NFL season odds at FanDuel Sportsbook . ___________________________________________________________ Week 3: Sunday, September 27—Bengals at Steelers, Acrisure Stadium, 1 PM ET The Bengals have a road game for the second consecutive week, and it’s going to be very odd to not see Mike Tomlin on the Pittsburgh sideline. Aaron Rodgers returns with Michael Pittman Jr. , pairing with DK Metcalf , but will he still be a dink-and-dunk passer like we saw last year? Cincinnati feels the pressure early in the season to get a must-win divisional game and rises to the occasion—this time. Bengals 30, Steelers 24 – Win, 2-1 Week 4: Sunday, October 4—Jaguars at Bengals, Paycor Stadium, 1 PM ET If Mayfield has had the Bengals’ number, then the same could be said of Cincinnati about Trevor Lawrence . Cincinnati is 3-0 head-to-head against the former No. 1 overall pick, and, oddly enough, Jake Browning cemented two of those Bengals wins. I expect more of the same here. This seems like a game wherein the defense begins to find its footing and frustrates Lawrence. While all of the games have been close in the Burrow/Browning-Lawrence era, this one may not be such a squeaker. Jaguars 17, Bengals 31 — Win, 3-1 Week 5: Sunday, October 11—Bengals at Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium, 1 PM ET Miami is in full rebuild mode. The team moved on from Tua Tagovailoa and has placed its bet on Malik Willis for the foreseeable future. Cincinnati has had some tough ones in South Beach, but the Bengals’ roster just seems stacked too much in their favor to suffer a loss—even if they play an imperfect game. Bengals 34, Dolphins 14 – Win, 4-1 Week 6: Sunday, October 18—BYE Record at Break: 4-1 Week 7: Sunday, October 25—Bengals at Ravens, M&T Bank Stadium, 1 PM ET Cincinnati needs to at least split the series against Baltimore [... truncated ...]
We crossed another milestone on the march back to football this fall with NFL teams announcing their full schedules on Thursday night. We’ll all be locked into our favorite teams and watching the national games, but some really fascinating storylines will come out of this 2026 slate, stories the league absolutely did not intentionally generate for our amusement. If you’re looking to set up a calendar of some must-watch games when the season rolls around, we’ve got you covered. This is a game with both a fascinating narrative and really interesting implications for the rest of the season. The top-down view is that this represents a battle between two quarterbacks involved in a pseudo-trade for each other. Carolina traded up in 2023 to take Bryce Young with the No. 1 overall pick in 2023, and the result of that was Chicago getting the No. 1 overall pick in 2024, which they used to take Caleb Williams. We were deprived of seeing the head-to-head in 2024 as the game came when Andy Dalton was starting for the Panthers and before Young’s ascension. Now we get to see it. Far more importantly, this is a game between the winners of the NFC North and NFC South, respectively, and it comes to kick off the season. It represents a great litmus test to see where these organizations are at, with Chicago trading away D.J. Moore , losing some free agents, but bolstering their secondary even more. Meanwhile the Panthers are boasting a fully-revamped defense around huge free agent signings in Jaelan Phillips and Devin Lloyd . This is one of those games either team would probably be okay losing, but look back on Week 1 in January and it could come back to haunt them. In recent years we’ve exported the worst football the NFL has to offer to England, in what I can presume is residual revenge for taxation without representation. That changes in 2026, because London is actually getting a banger a third of the way into the season. The AFC South is one of the most competitive divisions in football, and at the top of the heap are the Texans and Jags. Not only does that make this game good enough in its own right, but this is also a matchup that features one of the NFL’s best young offensive minds in Jacksonville coach Liam Coen, against one of the scariest defenses in the league, courtesy of DeMeco Ryans . It’s not often that we can recommend getting up early to catch the international game, but this is a case where it’s worth watching football early in the morning. The fact that the NFL is making the Bears play divisional games on both Thanksgiving and Christmas is proof that the league just hates families in Chicago. Anyway, this game will rock. The NFC North is shaping up to be a three-way race between the Bears, Lions, and Packers — making this late December game likely critical for the playoff picture. Ben Johnson had Chicago take massive strides in his first year as head coach, which makes this be the year the team should take another step forward. Meanwhile the Packers are just looking to solidify this era as a success, and that means making it deeper into the playoffs. Also, we’re going to get to watch Micah Parsons try and track down Caleb Williams, and that’s just fun. The Rams are going to be one of the best teams in the NFC, we already know that. The Giants should be pulling themselves out of the doldrums to become a real threat in the NFC East. There is no better way to judge the improvement of the Giants than this game, set to take place in Week 2. It is decidedly too early to think of the Harbaugh-led Giants as a serious threat, but the pass rush they’re bringing to the table is prolific, and it will be fun to see how much havoc they can cause against Matthew Stafford . This will go a lot of the way to telling us whether or not the Giants are for real, and it happens on national TV. Any time you have a No. 1 overall pick making his debut it’s a big deal, but as it stands all signs are pointing to that not happening in Week 1. [... truncated ...]
