Philly’s offense went out with a whimper in the second half of last season, with Hurts posting a net negative on dropbacks in Expected Points Added (-11.1) during his final nine games of 2025, including the Eagles’ playoff loss, per Next Gen Stats. The vibes were even worse than those numbers. Given the scrutiny attached to playing quarterback for the Eagles, Hurts will either enter next offseason with questions about his future with the team or be riding high after returning to something resembling the form that made him the MVP runner-up in 2022 and the Super Bowl LIX MVP. The latter of the two scenarios seems well within reach. Hurts is getting something of a fresh start in 2026, with former NFL QB Sean Mannion replacing Kevin Patullo as offensive coordinator after Patullo’s rough lone season as the play-caller. A.J. Brown was shipped to the Patriots after he and Hurts grew apart, according to Brown. The receiving corps has a much different look, with Hollywood Brown , Dontayvion Wicks and first-round pick Makai Lemon arriving this offseason. Second-round selection Eli Stowers gives the offense a freak athlete at tight end. The offensive line remains one of the league’s best. I don’t know if we’ll see peak Saquon Barkley again, but he still ranked 10th in rushing yards (1,140) even while taking a big step back with the rest of the offense last season. The ingredients are there for Hurts to roar back on a contending team. He’ll have to be much better than the version of him we saw for much of last season, though, in an offense that will have him lining up under center more often. That is, essentially, the job description for Parks Frazier, the Eagles’ quarterbacks coach after spending 2025 as the offensive passing game coordinator. He is the direct contact for Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee , Andy Dalton and Cole Payton, the four men who are, together, the Eagles’ quarterback room. “From the quarterback perspective, again, it’s just trying to take one of the hardest positions in sports and make it as simple as possible,” Frazier said. ”So you try to chunk things together. Eli Stowers When Howie Roseman made the phone call the night the Eagles drafted Eli Stowers, he gave the young tight end a bit of a history lesson. He mentioned the Eagles’ track record of drafting tight ends in the second round. The last two tight ends the Eagles drafted in the second round? Dallas Goedert in 2018 and Zach Ertz in 2013. Both ended up being great. The Eagles are hoping Stowers continues that trend. Stowers, 23, began his college career as a quarterback at Texas A&M but suffered a torn labrum in College Station and his arm was never the same after surgery. He lost a quarterback battle in 2023 and began his transition to becoming a tight end. He became a full-time tight end for the first time in 2024. So there’s a bit of a learning curve in a couple of ways for Stowers. Not only is he still relatively new at the position, but now he’s making the jump from Vanderbilt to the NFL. “I think for any player, regardless of position, there’s always an adjustment anytime you’re moving from the collegiate level up to the NFL,” Eagles tight ends coach Ryan Mahaffey said this spring. “What I’ve really enjoyed about Eli is he’s really smart. He has a willingness to go out there and accept any challenge that you give him. He’s done a really good job of just applying himself daily, getting to know his teammates, going out there and really digging into the details of the offense. And the thing that just stood out to me about Eli is very intelligent and that he’s got a thirst to be better. He’s attacking that daily.” While Stowers is new to the position, his background at quarterback has helped him understand the tight end position through an unusual lens. That has helped. And it’s not like Stowers didn’t have a great 2025 season. Last year, he caught 62 passes for 769 yards and 4 touchdowns for Vanderbilt and ended up being the second tight end selected in the draft at No. 54 overall after just Kenyon Sadiq , who was drafted in the first round (No. 16 overall). “He has this ability to change direction and to accelerate and to catch the ball consistently,” head coach Nick Sirianni said this spring. “That’s unusual for that position. He has an unusual skillset at the tight end position with the matchups that he is going to be getting on safeties, linebackers. He’s fast, he’s quick, he can catch the ball well, and he’s still growing and learning in the position because there’s still some newness to him playing that position. I think that he shows power as far as his abilities to being able to block. Obviously, we don’t have pads on yet, so there’s some unknown, but you can feel some of the power when he’s hitting the bags and hitting the guy across from him in an individual setting. I think that you can see that he has that power and it’s very noticeable with his jumps, like his broad jump, his vertical jump. “He has explosive power in his body and it’s just about being able to go through those reps of getting better blocking, but we think he has that in his body with that, but he hasn’t had to do it much and he’s relatively new to the position. So, really excited about him and I think he’s [an] extremely, extremely intelligent football player. You can see his quarterback background. You feel his quarterback background with some of the instincts that he has on the field and also how he is in the meeting room and how he picks things up. Eli Stowers Suffers Leg Injury at Minicamp
Philadelphia Eagles rookie second-round tight end Eli Stowers (leg) had a sleeve on his right leg and wasn't doing much during mandatory minicamp practice on Wednesday, according to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Stowers' injury most likely isn't very serious, but the Eagles will ease him in during offseason workouts. We'd be surprised if he isn't ready for the start of training camp at the end of next month. The 23-year-old from Vanderbilt will most likely work for a backup role behind Dallas Goedert as he heads into his first season in the NFL with the Eagles. Stowers was converted from a quarterback to a TE in college, so he has plenty of development to do as a pass-catcher at 6-foot-4 and 239 pounds. Although Stowers is unlikely to have much of a role in Philly in 2026 behind Goedert, he has intriguing long-term value in dynasty/keeper leagues due to his above-average athleticism. In his last two collegiate seasons at Vanderbilt, Stowers had 111 total receptions for 1,407 yards and nine touchdowns in 25 games played

Stowers appears to have a lower-body injury and isn't doing much at Wednesday's practice, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The rookie second-round pick has a sleeve over his right leg and reportedly hasn't been doing much this week. Philadelphia's first-round pick, WR Makai Lemon, has also been absent from recent practices, nursing a hamstring injury that doesn't sound overly severe. Stowers' issue doesn't sound serious either, but it's possible he'll be limited for these last few practices before the Eagles break for the summer. Nothing at this stage hints at doubt about his availability for the start of training camp in late July. The concern for Stowers' fantasy value is Dallas Goedert's continued presence in Philadelphia, not a minor injury during OTAs

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links … 9 NFL undrafted free agents that could make their rosters in 2026 – SB Nation Dae’quan Wright, TE, Philadelphia Eagles . The Eagles are hoping to turn around last season’s offensive disasters with a brain trust led by new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, and it would appear that you can expect multi-tight end personnel packages as a major part of that lift. Philly selected Vanderbilt tight end/big receiver Eli Stowers in the second round, and they already have Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra , so you can expect the Eagles to align with this current schematic wave. Another guy who should get an opportunity is Ole Miss tight end Dae’Quan Wright, simply because this guy just knows how to get open for big plays — kind of important for Jalen Hurts . Last season, the 6’4”, 246-pound Wright caught 39 passes on 55 targets for 635 yards and five touchdowns, and he was getting it done to all areas of the field. Moreover, Wright is a good enough inline blocker to add to his potential with his new team, as not all Eagles tight ends are great blockers (yes, this is a Grant Calcaterra reference). 2026 NFL Draft’s best UDFA fits: 1 undrafted free agent to watch on each roster – The Athletic Philadelphia Eagles: Deontae Lawson , LB, Alabama. A two-time captain at Alabama who helped keep things together after Nick Saban retired, Lawson (6-2, 226) is a long and lean off-ball linebacker with quick feet and disciplined eyes between the tackles. I’m not sure if he’ll be able to hold up physically on a down-to-down basis, but he could be a valuable special teams/rotational piece. Heck, Blankenship got one of the smallest sums of guaranteed money in his rookie class. But it at least tells us how much the Eagles had to pay to entice these players to come to Philly. This year, Ole Miss DB Kapena Gushiken and International Player Pathway program DE Joshua Weru were at the top of the class with $25,000 signing bonuses and total guarantees of $272,500 each. Philadelphia Eagles 53-man roster prediction ahead of OTAs – BGN WIDE RECEIVER: DeVonta Smith , Makai Lemon, Dontayvion Wicks , Hollywood Brown , Darius Cooper (5) [11]. Smitty is more than ready to take over as WR1 with A.J. Brown soon to be traded. I don’t think it’ll take us long to realize if Lemon is equipped to be a serious contributor as a rookie or not. I’m cautiously optimistic; it’ll be nice to see evidence of his talents translating to the NFL. Wicks is an underrated player who could thrive with more opportunity in Philly than he saw with the Packers . Brown’s deep threat ability and general veteran competence makes him worth keeping around. Wicks and Brown have combined for five career special teams snaps, so, they’re probably not going to help out in that category. The Eagles need to keep around a dirty work guy or two and Cooper showed he’s capable of playing that role last year while also flashing offensive potential. Johnny Wilson was a tough cut here; he was showing promise before suffering a season-ending injury in August. Would like to see him back on the field first before assuming he’ll pick up where he left off. Elijah Moore has never really been a special teams guy and there are too many players ahead of him on offense, so, he’s more realistically looking at a practice squad spot unless there are injury issues. The Eagles could try to have Britain Covey begin the season on the practice squad, which they’ve done in the past, and use up his temporary elevations early on to be their punt returner. Doing so would buy them time to open up a spot for him if they want him to stay around for the rest of the season. The New York Giants ’ offseason is fully underway, and the roster is beginning to take shape under the leadership of John Harbaugh. While the ultimate goal is to bring another Super Bowl title to a once renowned New York Giants franchise, the journey back to contention is built on achieving the smaller milestones that have long eluded the franchise on a consistent basis. Winning in the division is one of those milestones that the Giants have struggled to achieve. The Brian Daboll era was marred by divisional losses, and New York will look to switch those fortunes; it all starts with the Philadelphia Eagles . The New York Giants did defeat the Eagles, 34-17, on Thursday Night Football in 2025 – a game where Cam Skattebo scored three touchdowns. Still, the Eagles have won 13 straight home games against the Giants; the last time New York won at Lincoln Financial Field was in 2013 – a game where Matt Barkley started for the Eagles. Philadelphia has won two Super Bowls since the last time the Giants defeated them on their home turf. Howie Roseman continues to show the NFL how to manage a roster, but Philadelphia has hit a few snafus along the way. Their offensive line is ageing, preeminent offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland is no longer with the franchise, questions surround both the head coach and quarterback, and there is some turmoil in the locker room. Nevertheless, Roseman and the Eagles have seemingly found a way to assuage the AJ Brown situation, albeit the nothing becomes ‘official’ till after June 1. Brown is rumored to be heading to New England in a trade at that time, which is logical when analyzing the trade up for USC wide receiver Makai Lemon and the selection of Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers . As it pertains to the Giants, New York must find a way to consistently threaten the Philadelphia Eagles. They haven’t been a contender for quite sometime, and challenging Philadelphia – and the Dallas Cowboys – will be the first major steps to become the New York Giants of old. Elijah Moore will compete for a roster spot as well, and is best suited as a middle of the field operative. Hurts has historically struggled targeting over the middle of the field. He’s now on his seventh offensive coordinator since entering the league in 2020, and Shawn Mannion will be tasked to try and design an offense that can allow Hurts to comfortably see and target the middle of the field – this is Hurts fifth consecutive season with a different OC. Roseman did add other offensive weapons that will allow the Eagles’ offense to stay vertical. Marquise Brown and Dontavyion Wicks both join DeVonta Smith in the wide receiver room, giving Mannion an effective and explosive 11 personnel package that is diverse. Carolina Panthers Schedule Breakdown: Second Quarter
This group of articles will take a look at the newly released Panthers schedule, review the opponents, and take our best guess at predicting the outcomes of each game. Here, we’re starting with the second “quarter” of the schedule, the second four games just after the Week 5 bye. The Eagles are a tough team to figure out this year. They drafted Makai Lemon in the first round and added a couple other wide receivers, and rumors are swirling about AJ Brown ’s impending trade. They also added to an already elite front four by trading for former Vikings pass rusher Jonathan Greenard and retaining Nolan Smith. Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean are young superstars, and the team added Riq Woolen in free agency to bolster that group even more. While Nakobe Dean walked in free agency, the team drafted Jihaad Campbell last year to help fill that void. Eli Stowers was drafted as well, combining with Dallas Goedert to make a quality tight end group. The Eagles are always talented, but oftentimes they are a bit Jekyll and Hyde. This might continue this year as Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni are still in town. Their defense is still elite, especially along the line and in the secondary. Saquon Barkley is not exactly in his prime, but Tank Bigsby was added as depth. DeVonta Smith combines with the other pass catchers to make a deep and versatile group. Any time a player of AJ Brown’s caliber leaves your team, however, there is bound to be some growing pains. Final: Eagles 24 – Panthers 13 A couple notorious Panthers killers are no longer in Tampa Bay as Lavonte David retired and Mike Evans and Rachaad White left in free agency. They did add quite a bit to their defense, though, signing veterans Alex Anzalone and A’Shawn Robinson. They also drafted Rueben Bain and Josiah Trotter. Baker Mayfield and the coaching staff is mostly intact from last year, though they do have yet another new offensive coordinator. Todd Bowles is undoubtedly on the hot seat, however. The Bucs do still have some talent, including Vita Vea plugging up the middle with Calijah Kancey . Ted Hurst was drafted in the third round to help replace the loss of Mike Evans, and Chris Godwin should be back healthy this season after missing a good chunk of last year. Final: Panthers 28 – Buccaneers 20 The Panthers second prime time game of the year is a Thursday night game at Lambeau. Luckily it’s early enough in the season that the weather should not be too bad. The Packers lost a couple wide receivers in Romeo Doubbs and Dontayvion Wicks . Rashan Gary was traded this offseason, largely because the team hopes Micah Parsons will be back and fully healthy at some point this season. Jordan Love is still the man under center, but they also added Tyrod Taylor as a fully capable backup. The team largely revolves around Love and that dynamic offense. Christian Watson is joined by second year receiver Matthew Golden , free agent Skyy Moore in the receiver room. A relatively weak secondary was addressed in the draft by taking Brandon Cisse and in free agency by signing Benjamin St-Juste . The depth at edge is also a bit of a weakness, especially with Parsons coming back from a torn ACL. The Packers are also going through some transitions on the offensive line, which could cause some issues. Starting left tackle Rasheed Walker left for the Panthers and Elgton Jenkins left in free agency as well. Final: Packers 27 – Panthers 23 The Denver Broncos surprised a lot of people last year, ripping off a 14-3 record largely led by their elite defense. To help on offense, the team added Jaylen Waddle and JK Dobbins. Bo Nix is still under center, and old nemesis Sean Payton and his permanent duck face is still the head coach. The team also still has a very good offensive line together, which will be important with Nix coming off a major ankle injury.
