Former Eagles tight end E.J. Jenkins is reportedly not returning to the team, signaling a roster change
The Eagles announced on Thursday that quarterback Jalen Hurts will not play against the Panthers due to a blood clot in his calf, which leaves Tanner McKee in line to make the first non-Week 18 start of his career. McKee may have wide receiver DeVonta Smith available for the game. Smith has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury and he did not practice on Wednesday, but the team listed him as a limited participant in Thursday’s practice. Wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks is moving in the opposite direction with his hamstring injury. Wicks was out of practice Thursday after working on a limited basis on Wednesday. Running back Saquon Barkley (hamstring) remained out of practice and is on track to miss his second straight game. Defensive back Michael Carter (abdomen), linebacker AJ Epenesa (back), linebacker Jalyx Hunt (knee, ankle), and running back Will Shipley (foot) were also out on Thursday. Cornerback Jakorian Bennett (knee), wide receiver Hollywood Brown (ankle), tight end Grant Calcaterra (back), guard Landon Dickerson (knee), linebacker Jonathan Greenard (ankle), tight end EJ Jenkins (toe), center Drew Kendall (knee), guard Tyler Steen (shoulder), and tight end Eli Stowers (quad) were the team’s limited participants. Linebacker Zack Baun (shoulder), linebacker Jihaad Campbell (knee, wrist), defensive tackle Jalen Carter (wrist), linebacker Arnold Ebiketie (shoulder), safety Marcus Epps (groin), offensive tackle Fred Johnson (knee), and safety Andrew Mukuba (shoulder) were all listed as full participants
The Eagles have 24 players on their injury report. None were resting players. Six of those didn’t practice. Running back Saquon Barkley (hamstring), defensive back Michael Carter (abdomen), outside linebacker Jalyx Hunt (knee/ankle), center Drew Kendall (knee), running back Will Shipley (foot) and wide receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring/toe). The toe injury is a new addition for Smith. Cornerback Jakorian Bennett (knee), wide receiver Marquise Brown (ankle), tight end Grant Calcaterra (back), offensive guard Landon Dickerson (knee), outside linebacker AJ Epenesa (back), safety Marcus Epps (groin), outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard (ankle), tight end EJ Jenkins (toe), offensive guard Tyler Steen (shoulder), tight end Eli Stowers (quad) and wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks (hamstring) were limited. Linebacker Zack Baun (shoulder), linebacker Jihaad Campbell (knee/wrist), defensive tackle Jalen Carter (wrist), outside linebacker Arnold Ebiketie (shoulder), quarterback Jalen Hurts (calf), offensive tackle Fred Johnson (knee) and safety Andrew Mukuba (shoulder) were full participants
Sleeper status change for E.J. Jenkins (11304). Before: status=Active, injury_status=—. After: status=Active, injury_status=Questionable
The Eagles will be shorthanded once again in Week 5, and their quarterback now has an injury issue — though it won’t keep him from playing. Philadelphia has ruled out running back Saquon Barkley (hamstring), receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring), receiver Marquise Brown (ankle), safety Marcus Epps (groin), and offensive lineman Drew Kendall (knee) have all been ruled out. Quarterback Jalen Hurts was added to the report with a calf injury as a full participant, but he has no game status for Sunday and is expected to play. Tight end E.J. Jenkins (toe) was also added to the report and is expected to play. Though he didn’t practice all week, outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard (ankle) is questionable for the contest. Linebacker Zack Baun (concussion) and tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) will both be back, as they were each full participants on Friday and are off the injury report. Linebacker Jihaad Campbell (knee), outside linebacker A.J. Epenesa (back), offensive tackle Fred Johnson (knee), cornerback Quinton Mitchell (knee), and receiver Dontayvion Wicks (hamstring) are all off the injury report and are set to play
Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert will miss several games after an MCL sprain, potentially landing on IR
Three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz is signing with the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad on Monday to return to the team that he played for from 2013 to 2021, sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN. The Eagles lost starting tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) to an MCL sprain in their Week 2 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, and he is expected to miss multiple weeks, so Ertz, who helped the Eagles win their first Super Bowl, will give the team some depth at the position going forward. The 35-year-old veteran spent the last two years with the Washington Commanders, catching 116 of his 163 targets for 1,158 yards and 11 touchdowns in 30 starts. The 13-year veteran tore his ACL in Week 14 and was limited to 13 games a year ago. Depending on how quickly Ertz can get his legs back under him this week, he could be elevated to the 53-man roster for the team's Week 3 contest on Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears. Grant Calcaterra (back) and rookie Eli Stowers (hamstring) are on Injured Reserve, so in addition to Ertz, the Eagles only have Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins at the position outside of Goedert
Eagles place second-round pick Eli Stowers on IR, impacting tight end depth
Zach Ertz may return to the Philadelphia Eagles, providing depth at tight end if Dallas Goedert is injured
