Lane Johnson He’s 36 now and entering Year 14 in the NFL. But when he’s healthy, there aren’t many players in the NFL who are better than Lane Johnson. He’s a future Hall of Famer who hasn’t lost a step yet. The Eagles need that to continue in 2026. Last season, Johnson was playing at a familiarly high level until he suffered a Lisfranc injury in November. The plan was for Johnson to eventually return and that was the hope even into the playoffs. But ahead of the playoff game against the 49ers, Johnson’s foot swelled again and he wasn’t able to go. While Johnson is at the age where he considers retirement after every season, he actually wasn’t very close to hanging up his cleats this offseason. “I didn’t want to go out that way,” Johnson explained this spring. Johnson said last month that he was feeling healthy again. “I’ve been able to play through stuff throughout the years but this was just something that took time,” Johnson said. “That’s something that I didn’t have at that point of the season. It was probably around February, March when I started to feel 100% but it took some time for it to heal up. I didn’t want to go out on that note last year.” If you need more proof that Johnson is supremely important to the Eagles — and you probably don’t — you can always just look at the records. Here’s how the Eagles have fared with and without Johnson since the start of the 2016 season (including playoffs): With Johnson: 94-41-1 Without Johnson: 15-28 In the first 13 seasons of his career, Johnson played for just one offensive line coach, so it’s a big change for him now that Jeff Stoutland is no longer with the organization. While that news was an initial shock for Johnson this offseason, he has bought into the new offense being implemented by offensive coordinator Sean Mannion and seems legitimately excited about it. “Hey man, I’m about it,” Johnson said. “Coach (Chris) Kuper played for lots of years in the league. Not only coming to me as a coach but as a player, I have a lot of respect for him. Super smart. I just think how this offense here will help us. I think just stretching the field, stressing the defense more. I think it’ll help us with our run blocking angles. I think it’ll help us some in pass pro. “I’ve never had any guard help all these years. It’s always been 1-on-1 so having the ability to be inside and having the guard come out and help me is a big deal for me. Me likey. Very excited. That’s pretty cool.”

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links … Up Front – Iggles Blitz That is three independent sources who have the Eagles rated as the #2 OL in the league heading into 2026. The Eagles have the best OT duo in the league. Tyler Steen is a player on the rise. Dickerson and Jurgens are Pro Bowlers when healthy. That’s a really talented group. And the depth is good, with Fred Johnson and rookie Markell Bell as the OTs. Interior depth is unproven, but Drew Kendall looked promising in limited action last year. Veteran Michael Jordan has more experience than talent and will have to earn a roster spot with a strong summer. Rookie Micah Morris has NFL size, athleticism and ability. He’s got to show he can put all of that together on a consistent basis. I’m also curious to see what Willie Lampkin and Myles Hinton do this summer. If the line is healthy, the run game should work and the overall offense should be fine. The Packers were seventh in the league in rushing attempts last year so Sean Mannion comes from a team that wanted to run the ball and did just that. With this OL and Saquon Barkley , expect the Eagles to once again be a running team. That worked pretty well in 2024 so I certainly won’t object. Eagles have 2 of ESPN’s Top 10 ranked defensive tackles in 2026 – BGN As ESPN continues to reveal their Top 10 lists for each position, the Eagles are quickly racking up nods as one of the best rosters in the league. They’ve already claimed one of the top running backs (Saquon Barkley), and two of the top cornerbacks ( Quinyon Mitchell , Cooper DeJean , plus votes for Riq Woolen ), and now add two of the best defensive tackles ( Jalen Carter , Jordan Davis ) to the list. None of the Eagles edge rushers made the Top 10 of their position, and among tight ends, Dallas Goedert did earn some Top 10 votes but ultimately not enough to be ranked. Here’s a look at what they said about the Eagles’ dominant interior defenders. Things to watch for at Eagles training camp: Linebacker edition – PhillyVoice When training camp began in 2025, Dean was on the PUP list and, as noted above, it wasn’t expected that Campbell would be ready to participate until August. As such, Jeremiah Trotter was in line to get all the first-team reps, at least initially in camp. But, with Campbell unexpectedly ready on Day 1 of camp, Trotter had to wait his turn some more. For the last decade, the Eagles have been viewed as the best team in the NFC East. Their roster was one of the best in the NFL and they have a general manager in Howie Roseman who has a clear vision and isn’t afraid to make moves. Washington , on the other hand, is in rebuilding mode with a lot of younger players at key positions and a general manager still trying to stamp his identity on the team. The first step to sustained success in the NFL is being the best team in your division. The Eagles are the reigning NFC East champions and are just two years removed from a Super Bowl win. They remain the measuring stick for the Commanders. So, how does this season’s roster stack up to Philly’s squad? Every year in the NFL, certain teams improve while others get worse. Make no mistake about it, the 2026 Eagles are NOT the team they once were. WR A.J. Brown : Traded to Patriots DE Jaelan Phillips : Signed free agent deal with Panthers LB Nakobe Dean : Signed free agent deal with Raiders S Reed Blankenship : Signed free agent deal with Texans LB Josh Uche : Signed free agent deal with Dolphins RT Lane Johnson : Lane is nowhere near the player he once was, and his time in the league is nearing an end. LG Landon Dickerson : Chronic back issues may force an early retirement. RB Saquon Barkley : The 29-year-old took a HUGE step backwards last season. LT Jordan Mailata : Surprisingly (but not surprisingly), Mailata’s play slipped off significantly when Dickerson was not in the lineup to his immediate right. EDGE Nolan Smith : The former 2023 first-round pick has been a major disappointment since entering the league – forcing Roseman to make multiple trades for edge rushers. Unlike the Eagles, Washington’s roster greatly improved over the offseason! Most of the major improvements occurred on the defensive side of the football, but some key offensive additions, with maybe another big one coming, should help the Commanders regain the excitement from 2024. Now, this Commanders roster is not there just yet, but make no mistake — they have pulled much closer to the best team in the division from a total roster talent standpoint. Quarterback: I don’t think there is a sane person in the NFL who wouldn’t take Jayden Daniels over Jalen Hurts. Even delusional Eagles fans would agree. Win: Washington Running Back: Despite Barkley’s decline, Philly still has the better running back room, however, the gap is not as large as it once was. Win: Philly Wide Receiver: This one is close. With a healthy and motivated A.J. Brown, Philly takes this one, but with Brown now off to New England , it’s McLaurin vs. Smith as the WR1. Both teams have an intriguing rookie but, until we see at least a season of production, it’s tough to grade one over the other. One team, however, could be getting some significant help very soon. Until then, this is a push. Win: Push Tight End: It was shocking to see Goedert return for another season. Most had him hanging up the cleats. He’s battled injury and is not a threat after the catch. Washington has a new, young, dynamic pass catcher in Chig Okonkwo and the best blocking tight end in the league in John Bates . If Ben Sinnott can show something in this new offense, the depth will be complete too. Win: Washington Offensive Line: There was a time when Philly took this one walking away, but not any more. Brown ’s new team, his old one falls off the top of the board to ninth. The Eagles’ coming cap concerns on defense have forced them to try to replace Brown’s production in the aggregate, and while GM Howie Roseman did a reasonable job in landing Makai Lemon, Hollywood Brown and Dontayvion Wicks at wide receiver this offseason, there’s a significant drop-off between even the 2025 version of Brown and what the Eagles project to get from his replacements in 2026. DeVonta Smith has looked like a WR1 without Brown on the field in the past, but the stylish wideout would have to elevate his game even further to compensate for his missing partner. It was always going to be difficult for Saquon Barkley to sustain his absurd big-play rate from 2024, but after racking up 21 gains of 20 yards or more during his Super Bowl-winning season, Barkley managed only six of them in 2025. He had to do way more work before first contact: He averaged more than 4 yards before he was initially touched by a defender in 2024, but that fell to 2.3 yards in 2025, which was almost exactly the league average for starting backs. I don’t doubt Barkley’s talent, but his true big-play production rate is somewhere between what we saw in 2024 and 2025. The one player who might miss former Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo (now with the Dolphins) is Dallas Goedert . A tight end who has often underperformed his touchdown expectation in the red zone, Goedert scored 11 times last season, including seven times from inside the 5-yard line (after averaging 4.4 touchdowns per 17 games over the rest of his career). Even if the Eagles aren’t as reliant on the tush push in 2026, it would be a surprise if Goedert saw as many designed touches near the goal line again this season. Second-round rookie Eli Stowers could figure in at tight end by the end of the season too. One of the biggest stories of the Eagles’ offseason was the hiring of Sean Mannion to take over as offensive coordinator. This is a big-swing hire after the 2025 version of the Eagles’ offense finished 22nd in the NFL. They were far too talented to be in that spot. So they moved on from Kevin Patullo and went through an exhaustive search to find their next OC before landing on Mannion. Mannion, 34, is expected to run a version of the Shanahan offense. That will be a big departure from the offense we’ve seen under Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts over the last five seasons. While this new offense will be some sort of “blend” between old and new, the Eagles are expected to run many of the staples of a Shanahan scheme. And it’s fair to wonder how that offense will blend with the Eagles’ franchise quarterback. The good news is that, so far, it seems like Mannion and Hurts have already forged a strong relationship. Hurts is the kind of player who wants to know the why behind everything and Mannion has had all the answers. What are the staples we are expecting to see in this offense? More under-center usage, play action, pre-snap motions and a real emphasis on tying the run and pass. Nick Sirianni has said he thinks Hurts has shown an ability to do all of those things. The Other Guy: Eagles Have Found Something Special In RG Tyler Steen – SI Whether by design or overreaction, Philadelphia is moving off its prior offensive scheme under new coordinator Sean Mannion. For the offensive line, that means more of a stretch, wide-zone blocking approach versus one that defaulted to more of an inside-zone, power-based philosophy. The “other guy” on the Eagles’ dominant offensive front, which also includes star left tackle Jordan Mailata , is third-year pro Tyler Steen, who stands out as a prime breakout candidate at right guard under Mannion, new offensive line coach Chris Kuper, and run game coordinator Ryan Mahaffey. Eli Stowers When Howie Roseman made the phone call the night the Eagles drafted Eli Stowers, he gave the young tight end a bit of a history lesson. He mentioned the Eagles’ track record of drafting tight ends in the second round. The last two tight ends the Eagles drafted in the second round? Dallas Goedert in 2018 and Zach Ertz in 2013. Both ended up being great. The Eagles are hoping Stowers continues that trend. Stowers, 23, began his college career as a quarterback at Texas A&M but suffered a torn labrum in College Station and his arm was never the same after surgery. He lost a quarterback battle in 2023 and began his transition to becoming a tight end. He became a full-time tight end for the first time in 2024. So there’s a bit of a learning curve in a couple of ways for Stowers. Not only is he still relatively new at the position, but now he’s making the jump from Vanderbilt to the NFL. “I think for any player, regardless of position, there’s always an adjustment anytime you’re moving from the collegiate level up to the NFL,” Eagles tight ends coach Ryan Mahaffey said this spring. “What I’ve really enjoyed about Eli is he’s really smart. He has a willingness to go out there and accept any challenge that you give him. He’s done a really good job of just applying himself daily, getting to know his teammates, going out there and really digging into the details of the offense. And the thing that just stood out to me about Eli is very intelligent and that he’s got a thirst to be better. He’s attacking that daily.” While Stowers is new to the position, his background at quarterback has helped him understand the tight end position through an unusual lens. That has helped. And it’s not like Stowers didn’t have a great 2025 season. Last year, he caught 62 passes for 769 yards and 4 touchdowns for Vanderbilt and ended up being the second tight end selected in the draft at No. 54 overall after just Kenyon Sadiq , who was drafted in the first round (No. 16 overall). “He has this ability to change direction and to accelerate and to catch the ball consistently,” head coach Nick Sirianni said this spring. “That’s unusual for that position. He has an unusual skillset at the tight end position with the matchups that he is going to be getting on safeties, linebackers. He’s fast, he’s quick, he can catch the ball well, and he’s still growing and learning in the position because there’s still some newness to him playing that position. I think that he shows power as far as his abilities to being able to block. Obviously, we don’t have pads on yet, so there’s some unknown, but you can feel some of the power when he’s hitting the bags and hitting the guy across from him in an individual setting. I think that you can see that he has that power and it’s very noticeable with his jumps, like his broad jump, his vertical jump. “He has explosive power in his body and it’s just about being able to go through those reps of getting better blocking, but we think he has that in his body with that, but he hasn’t had to do it much and he’s relatively new to the position. So, really excited about him and I think he’s [an] extremely, extremely intelligent football player. You can see his quarterback background. You feel his quarterback background with some of the instincts that he has on the field and also how he is in the meeting room and how he picks things up. Extremely excited about him.” So what will Stowers’ role be in 2026 as a rookie? Well, the Eagles did bring back Dallas Goedert on a one-year, $7 million deal and he’s going to be there TE1 this season. Eli Stowers Suffers Leg Injury at Minicamp

Philadelphia Eagles rookie second-round tight end Eli Stowers (leg) had a sleeve on his right leg and wasn't doing much during mandatory minicamp practice on Wednesday, according to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Stowers' injury most likely isn't very serious, but the Eagles will ease him in during offseason workouts. We'd be surprised if he isn't ready for the start of training camp at the end of next month. The 23-year-old from Vanderbilt will most likely work for a backup role behind Dallas Goedert as he heads into his first season in the NFL with the Eagles. Stowers was converted from a quarterback to a TE in college, so he has plenty of development to do as a pass-catcher at 6-foot-4 and 239 pounds. Although Stowers is unlikely to have much of a role in Philly in 2026 behind Goedert, he has intriguing long-term value in dynasty/keeper leagues due to his above-average athleticism. Here’s what I observed! ATTENDANCE UPDATES: ABSENT AGAIN: Lane Johnson and Jalen Carter . NEWLY ABSENT : Fred Johnson , Joe Tryon-Shoyinka , and Hollin Pierce . RETURNED : Dontayvion Wicks and Jihaad Campbell (Jihaad watched practice from the sideline). INJURY UPDATES: DID NOT PRACTICE: Makai Lemon suffered a hamstring injury, according to Quinyon Mitchell . The rookie wideout is expected to miss the rest of the Eagles’ spring practices but should be ready for training camp. The aforementioned Jihaad Campbell is still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. Britain Covey , Carson Steele (wearing a sleeve on his right leg), and Tucker Large (injured reserve) watched practice from the sideline. LIMITED PARTICIPATION: Jonathan Greenard is still limited to position drills. Rookie safety Cole Wisniewski was sidelined for last week’s media-attended practice but returned to position drills. Don’t think I saw him in team drills but could be wrong. FULL PARTICIPATION: Hollywood Brown took part in team drills after not doing so in last week’s media-attended practice. JALEN HURTS UPDATE: Hurts’ first pass during team drills was an interception thrown right to Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in 7-on-7s. After the play, I noticed Cooper DeJean pointing down the field to someone (Drew Mukuba? A coach?), perhaps in an “I told you!” kind of way that suggested the defense might’ve had a read on the offense there. But maybe that wasn’t it at all, just speculating. Anyway, Hurts rebounded from this pick with some short completions over the middle to DeVonta Smith (the media focus of the day with A.J. Brown ) and Dallas Goedert . Hurts also connected with Saquon Barkley up the seam (can’t recall him previously being targeted like that) for a 30+ yard touchdown. Unless someone just flat out missed their assignment, it looked like the design of that play help to scheme Barkley open (gasp, what a concept!). Could be good to get Barkley more involved as a downfield target. During a goal line drill towards the end of practice, Hurts just missed a throw to a crossing DeVonta in the middle of the field for a would-be touchdown. All told, it was mixed bag of a day for Hurts. The Eagles’ first 11-on-11 rep had Hurts lined up under center in 12 personnel to hand the ball off to Saquon Barkley. Dallas Goedert and Johnny Mundt were the tight ends with DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks at wide receiver. Wicks didn’t stand out much in his first practice; I only wrote down his name for dropping a pass. Grant Calcaterra did rotate in with the first team offense, so, it’s not like he’s entirely out of the picture. He actually made a good grab coming back to the ball for a short contested catch against Quinyon Mitchell. BACKUP QUARTERBACK CONTROVERSY? Or maybe there’s no controversy after all and it’s just been decided that Andy Dalton is Hurts’ primary backup instead of Tanner McKee ? Plenty of offseason left to go but, for the second media-attended practice in a row, Dalton was the quarterback with the second-team offense. And unlike how he stunk last week, the 38-year-old veteran was much sharper today. Dalton made a good anticipation throw up the seam to hit E.J. Jenkins for a first down. Then he completed two passes to receivers on out routes along the left sideline. Dalton found Elijah Moore , who sat down in a soft spot in the defense, for another first down. He capped off a strong day at practice with a strike to Hollywood Brown in the back of the end zone during a goal line sequence. Tanner McKee’s limited reps included him hitting a flyswatter dummy, a short pass broken up by undrafted rookie Kapena Gushiken, a wormburner over the middle, and a short touchdown pass to Danny Gray .
