Elijah Mitchell could have a meaningful role against the Commanders due to the Eagles' depleted backfield
The Eagles placed running back Dameon Pierce on injured reserve Wednesday, the team announced
The Eagles placed running back Dameon Pierce on injured reserve Wednesday, the team announced. Pierce left in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s game with an undisclosed injury. He will miss at least the next four games before returning. He is the fourth running back the Eagles have placed on injured reserve this season. In three games, Pierce had 37 carries for 96 yards and two touchdowns. In a corresponding move, the Eagles signed running back Jaydon Blue from the practice squad to the active roster. This is Blue’s second stint on the active roster this season. He signed with the Eagles’ practice squad before the season and was signed to the active roster ahead of the Week 6 game against the Panthers. The Eagles waived him from the active roster the following week, and he rejoined the practice squad. Blue, a fifth-round pick of the Cowboys in 2025, had 34 rushes for 129 yards and a touchdown in five games for Dallas. The Eagles also announced they signed offensive guard Evan Beerntsen, wide receiver Quentin Skinner and defensive back Shaun Wade to the practice squad
Yet ANOTHER Eagles running back is headed to IR
Eagles sign RB Jaydon Blue to 53-man roster, place RB Dameon Pierce on IR
Philadelphia Eagles running back Jaydon Blue has now become a deep-league waiver-wire pickup at the running back position with an opportunity for a role in Philly's banged-up backfield after they placed Dameon Pierce (undisclosed) on Injured Reserve on Wednesday. Pierce became the team's third RB placed on IR this season, joining Tank Bigsby (abdomen) and Will Shipley (foot), and with Saquon Barkley also nursing hamstring and back injuries going into a Week 8 matchup against the division-rival Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football, Blue has been added to the 53-man roster and could play a significant role when he makes his Eagles' debut this week. The 22-year-old former fifth-rounder by the Dallas Cowboys last year out of Texas will only be in play as a desperation flex option in the Eagles' depleted offense on Sunday night if Barkley does not play. Blue appeared in only five games for Dallas as a rookie in 2025 and handled just 38 carries for 129 yards and one touchdown while catching one pass for five yards. If Barkley misses another game, Blue will be battling with Elijah Mitchell for backfield touches in Philly
Pierce scores a touchdown and shows potential as a starter for the Commanders
The Cowboys saved their season, at least for another week, and the Eagles’ postseason hopes took a huge hit Monday night. Dallas beat Philadelphia 38-21 to end a two-game losing streak and move to 3-4. The Eagles, who are decimated by injuries, have lost five in a row to fall to 2-5. They started the game without quarterback Jalen Hurts and wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks, among others, and finished it without running backs Saquon Barkley and Dameon Pierce. Barkley, who was returning after missing two games with a hamstring injury, left with a back injury. He had seven carries for 62 yards and a touchdown and two catches for 9 yards in limited usage before his new injury. Pierce left in the fourth quarter with an undisclosed injury after 14 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown. The game was back-and-forth for most of the night, with six lead changes. The last came on CeeDee Lamb’s 16-yard touchdown reception and Dak Prescott’s 2-point conversion that gave the Cowboys a 28-21 lead with 1:30 left in the third quarter. Brian Schottenheimer, whose play calling was criticized after he abandoned the run in the second half last week, called for more runs than passes. The Cowboys ran it 38 times for 204 yards and threw it 27 times for 212 yards. The Eagles had zero tackles for loss. Javonte Williams set a career-high with 155 yards and scored a touchdown on 25 carries. He is the Cowboys’ first 150-yard rusher since Ezekiel Elliott in 2018. Prescott was 15-of-27 for 212 yards and three touchdowns. Lamb caught five passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns and George Pickens had four receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown. Tanner McKee, starting for the second consecutive week in place of Hurts, went 23-of-35 for 211 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown picked him in the second half. Rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon caught seven passes for 67 yards and a touchdown
The Cowboys lead the Eagles 20-14 at halftime in Monday Night Football
The Eagles capitalized on Cowboys defensive penalties to secure a 14‑10 win, with key plays from Quinnen Williams, Tanner McKee, Dameon Pierce and a missed opportunity from Britain Covey
Saquon Barkley could make his return to the field this week after being officially questionable with a hamstring injury
Pierce is welcoming back Barkley (hamstring) to the Eagles backfield in Week 7 due to the latter being active Monday versus the Cowboys. With Barkley out of the lineup the last two games, Pierce accounted for 27 touches for 62 yards from scrimmage and one rushing TD. In Barkley's two healthy outings this season, he averaged 16.0 touches per game, and if he takes on such a role Monday, Pierce will have to fight for scraps in the Eagles offense. Elijah Mitchell also is on hand for RB reps
Dameon Pierce is worth stashing ahead of Week 7 due to potential lead back role and favorable matchup
Dameon Pierce stepped into a larger role for the Eagles due to multiple injuries at running back, seeing significant snaps. Despite low efficiency, he scored a touchdown and added receptions. With Saquon Barkley potentially returning, Pierce is expected to move to a No. 2 role. However, given the Cowboys' weak run defense, Pierce may still hold some touchdown-dependent fantasy value
Eagles sign Elijah Mitchell, waive Jaydon Blue and Carson Steele
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed running back Elijah Mitchell to their practice squad, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston. Signing Mitchell was just one of a series of moves the Eagles made in their backfield, as the team also waived running backs Jaydon Blue and Carson Steele (shoulder) from their active roster and Ian Wheeler from their practice squad. Eagles RB1 Saquon Barkley (hamstring) has missed each of the team's last two games, while top reserves Tank Bigsby (core) and Will Shipley (foot) are both on Injured Reserve. As a result, Dameon Pierce was Philly's lead back in Week 6. However, the Eagles' maneuvering on Tuesday could indicate that the team is confident in Barkley returning in Week 7 against the Dallas Cowboys. If Barkley remains sidelined, Mitchell could join Pierce as a potential backfield option against Dallas
Philadelphia Eagles running back Dameon Pierce carried the ball 12 times for 35 yards and a score and caught four passes for 15 yards in a loss to the Carolina Panthers. Pierce made his first start since 2023 with Houston. Saquon Barkley is recovering from a hamstring injury, and Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley are both on injured reserve, which could make Pierce the starter for another week or two. He is likely to be a touchdown-dependent FLEX option in an offense missing several pieces, though he dominated the backfield touches in Week 6
Panthers defeat Eagles 25-14, with multiple injuries to Eagles players
The Panthers led 10-0 before the Eagles made things interesting. Tanner McKee, starting for Jalen Hurts, led Philadelphia on a 10-play, 78-yard drive with Dameon Pierce scoring on a 2-yard run with 2:42 remaining in the first half. Carolina leads 10-7 at halftime. On their touchdown drive, the Eagles benefited with a 22-yard defensive pass interference penalty on rookie Will Lee, who pulled down Dallas Goedert’s pants. It was Lee’s second DPI, and set up Pierce’s touchdown run. The Panthers have outgained the Eagles 178 to 110, with Bryce Young going 12-of-21 for 162 yards and a touchdown. Tetairoa McMillan has five catches for 79 yards. McKee is 13-of-23 for 94 yards, with Goedert catching four passes for 38 yards
Philadelphia Eagles running back Dameon Pierce logged 12 carries, 35 rushing yards, and one rushing touchdown during Sunday's Week 6 loss against the Carolina Panthers. He also caught four of his five targets for 15 receiving yards. The Eagles' offense has been decimated by injuries, which led to Pierce operating as the team's No. 1 running back on Sunday. The team has already lost Saquon Barkley (hamstring), Tank Bigsby (core), and Will Shipley (foot) to injuries, and depth option Carson Steele (shoulder) also went down on Sunday. Barkley and Shipley could be in the mix to return in Week 7, but if not, Pierce would lead the backfield once again. He was relatively inefficient with less than three yards per carry this week, but he made up for it with the touchdown and four catches. If Pierce does earn the start next week, he'll rank as a high-end RB3 in fantasy football
