The Eagles made a change to their wide receiver group ahead of Sunday’s deadline to cut rosters to 90 players. They announced that they have signed Tahj Washington to the active roster. Brandon Hayes was waived in a corresponding move. Washington was a 2024 seventh-round pick by the Dolphins and was with the team until being waived earlier this week. He appeared in six games last season and had three catches for 37 yards. Hayes signed with the Eagles three weeks ago. He was undrafted out of Southeastern Louisiana. DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon, Dontayvion Wicks, Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore, Darius Cooper, Britain Covey, Quez Watkins, Danny Gray, Samori Toure, and Erik Ezukanma are also on the roster at receiver

When veterans and rookies report for Philadelphia Eagles training camp at the end of the month, it will be quarterback Jalen Hurts' first extended opportunity to build chemistry with his new receiving corps. In trading away three-time Pro Bowler A.J. Brown, the Eagles are relying on a number of new faces to fill the ranks alongside incumbents DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert in an effort to rebound from a shaky 2025 offensive outing. Veterans Dontayvion Wicks and Hollywood Brown join rookies Makai Lemon and Eli Stowers in what could be a more balanced passing attack that allows Hurts to spread the ball around. Regardless of any criticism he's faced in recent years, Hurts has never failed to deliver for fantasy, finishing as the QB9 or better in each of the past five seasons despite playing under four different offensive coordinators in that span. Hurts is RotoBaller's QB6 in 2026, but in a year where so many different quarterbacks elicit strong reactions from the fantasy community, he has been seen regularly slipping into the later rounds of drafts, making him a near can't-miss pick with one of the safest floors at the position
The wait for the Eagles to trade A.J. Brown to the Patriots was the dominant storyline of their offseason, but the team didn’t wait to move Brown before they started making plans to replace him in their lineup. Those plans unfolded on three fronts. They signed Hollywood Brown as a free agent, drafted Makai Lemon in the first round and made a trade with the Packers to acquire Dontayvion Wicks. Wicks also signed a two-year extension and is familiar with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion and wide receivers coach Ryan Mahaffey since they both were on Green Bay’s staff the last two seasons. Wicks had 69 receptions over those two seasons, but Brown’s absence opens up a prominent role in the Eagles offense and the wideout said he is looking forward to making the most of the “different opportunity” he has in front of him this season. “I just want to say I’m blessed to be able to be in this position,” Wicks said, via the team’s website. “It just showed me the value and love that Philly has for me and I want to come out and show what I’m worth.” The Eagles never found an offensive groove during the 2025 season, which contributed to their quick exit from the playoffs and led them to bet on Wicks being able to do more than he showed with the Packers. If that bet pays off, it should make for a more pleasant season in Philadelphia

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links … Which NFL teams could dethrone Super Bowl champion Seahawks? Ranking top 8 candidates – NFL.com 4) PHILADELPHIA EAGLES . Last season ended with a thud, as the injury-plagued 49ers knocked the Eagles out of the playoffs on Wild Card Weekend. The last two times the Eagles were bounced from the first round of the playoffs, they played in the Super Bowl the following season. So, go ahead Philly fans, book your flights to Los Angeles in February! Obviously, that pattern is only going to hold if the team gets better play from Jalen Hurts , who was a net negative in EPA (-10) during the final nine games of the regular season, per Next Gen Stats. GM Howie Roseman has given the QB a much different receiving corps, with Hollywood Brown , Dontayvion Wicks and Makai Lemon joining the team and A.J. Brown officially leaving town. There’s good news on the offensive line, with OT Lane Johnson and OG Landon Dickerson returning after considering retirement, but Philadelphia will need them to stay healthy to reap the benefits. Vic Fangio’s defense isn’t without question marks (at safety, primarily), but it has the potential to be elite once again after allowing the fewest yards and second-fewest points in the league last season. Philly gets to host Seattle on a short week (Saturday game) in mid-December, which might give Nick Sirianni and Co. an edge in a game that figures to be pivotal in determining playoff positioning. No team has won more games than the Eagles since the start of the 2022 season. They’ve earned a spot in this conversation. Happy 4th of July – BGN We ask you: what are you getting up to today? Seeing fireworks? Having a barbecue? Doing some normal Saturday stuff because you live outside of America? Feel free to use this comment section as an open thread to hang out today. Things to watch for at Eagles training camp: Offensive tackle edition – PhillyVoice With Johnson sitting out OTAs, third-round rookie Markel Bell got to play with the starters at RT, when it would have been easy to just insert Fred Johnson in there. And then when Lane showed up for minicamp, Bell played LT with the second-team offense. Obviously the team hopes that Bell can develop long-term, but it also appears that they are trying to prepare him for an immediate role as a key backup this season. There’s only so much you can tell in spring practices without pads and very limited contact, but Bell is a massive 6’9, 346-pound OT, and in my opinion he moved well. He also didn’t look unnatural at RT, which is noteworthy considering he really only played LT in college in games, though Bell did note during rookie minicamp that he was cross-trained during practices at Miami at RT. Some guys can easily move back and forth between LT and RT. Some guys (cough, Andre Dillard ) can’t. The Eagles’ hope is that Bell can develop into a legitimate successor for Johnson. And if so, that’s a future first-round pick that can be used to address some other position. Appreciating Vic Fangio – Iggles Blitz The Eagles have run a version of the Vic Fangio scheme since Nick Sirianni took over as coach of the Eagles. It wasn’t until 2024 that they were able to hire Fangio himself that anyone knew how good he and the scheme are. Having the playbook is one thing. Knowing how to teach it and call defenses during the game is quite another. That’s what makes Fangio special. Fangio has coached in the NFL since 1986. He’s been a LBs coach, defensive coordinator and head coach. Some coaches struggle to evolve with the new trends in football, but that isn’t the case with Fangio. He came in as the 3-4 was taking over the league, saw the rise of the zone blitz and came up with his own theory on the light box in recent years. Fangio might be old, but his scheme stays young. Secondary coach Joe Kasper explains part of that. Travis Kelce Has Brother Jason as His Best Man for Taylor Swift Wedding as They Go Without a Bridal Party – People Tra [... truncated ...]
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links … Ranking WR, TE, RB groups for 2026: Best and worst NFL teams – ESPN 9) Philadelphia Eagles. 2025 rank: 1 | 2024 rank: 2. Just ahead of A.J. Brown ’s new team, his old one falls off the top of the board to ninth. The Eagles’ coming cap concerns on defense have forced them to try to replace Brown’s production in the aggregate, and while GM Howie Roseman did a reasonable job in landing Makai Lemon, Hollywood Brown and Dontayvion Wicks at wide receiver this offseason, there’s a significant drop-off between even the 2025 version of Brown and what the Eagles project to get from his replacements in 2026. DeVonta Smith has looked like a WR1 without Brown on the field in the past, but the stylish wideout would have to elevate his game even further to compensate for his missing partner. It was always going to be difficult for Saquon Barkley to sustain his absurd big-play rate from 2024, but after racking up 21 gains of 20 yards or more during his Super Bowl-winning season, Barkley managed only six of them in 2025. He had to do way more work before first contact: He averaged more than 4 yards before he was initially touched by a defender in 2024, but that fell to 2.3 yards in 2025, which was almost exactly the league average for starting backs. I don’t doubt Barkley’s talent, but his true big-play production rate is somewhere between what we saw in 2024 and 2025. The one player who might miss former Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo (now with the Dolphins) is Dallas Goedert . A tight end who has often underperformed his touchdown expectation in the red zone, Goedert scored 11 times last season, including seven times from inside the 5-yard line (after averaging 4.4 touchdowns per 17 games over the rest of his career). Even if the Eagles aren’t as reliant on the tush push in 2026, it would be a surprise if Goedert saw as many designed touches near the goal line again this season. Second-round rookie Eli Stowers could figure in at tight end by the end of the season too. Zach Ertz gets emotional talking about his time with the Eagles – BGN It was an Eagles reunion on the latest episode of New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce , who spoke to Zach and Julie Ertz about the World Cup and Zach’s time in Philadelphia. They spent some time catching up, comparing football to soccer, and ribbing each other about their very blonde hair in 2021. There were a few notables coming out of the interview, and it highlighted — perhaps moreso now than ever before — Zach’s affinity and appreciation for his nine years playing for the Eagles. In fact, the tight end got emotional reminiscing about playing alongside guys like Jason, Lane Johnson , Brandon Graham , and Fletcher Cox. He explained that it wasn’t always easy, but knowing they all had each others back made that core group of guys something Zach looks back on fondly. Eagles 2026 most important list: Jalyx Hunt – NBCSP It’s amazing how much growth we’ve already seen from Hunt in his two years in the NFL. In his first two NFL games, Hunt didn’t see a single snap on defense. By the end of his rookie season, he was a legitimate part of the edge rusher rotation. And then last season, Hunt was the Eagles’ most productive edge rusher. In addition to his 6 1/2 sacks, Hunt also led the group with a pressure rate of 17.3%. 2024: 241 snaps (25%), 1 1/2 sacks, 3 QB hits, 0 INTs, 1 TFL, 2 FFs … 2025: 693 snaps (62%), 6 1/2 sacks, 14 QB hits, 3 INTs, 9 TFLs, 2 FFs. This offseason, the Eagles went out and traded for Jonathan Greenard to be their top-of-the-rotation edge rusher. But don’t sleep on Hunt’s ceiling in 2026. Greenard called Hunt a “freak” and marveled at watching Hunt’s pick-6 against the Vikings last year. Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links … NFL MVP dark horses: Jalen Hurts, Trevor Lawrence among top nine candidates in 2026 – NFL.com 6) JALEN HURTS. Philly’s offense went out with a whimper in the second half of last season, with Hurts posting a net negative on dropbacks in Expected Points Added (-11.1) during his final nine games of 2025, including the Eagles’ playoff loss, per Next Gen Stats. The vibes were even worse than those numbers. Given the scrutiny attached to playing quarterback for the Eagles, Hurts will either enter next offseason with questions about his future with the team or be riding high after returning to something resembling the form that made him the MVP runner-up in 2022 and the Super Bowl LIX MVP. The latter of the two scenarios seems well within reach. Hurts is getting something of a fresh start in 2026, with former NFL QB Sean Mannion replacing Kevin Patullo as offensive coordinator after Patullo’s rough lone season as the play-caller. A.J. Brown was shipped to the Patriots after he and Hurts grew apart, according to Brown. The receiving corps has a much different look, with Hollywood Brown , Dontayvion Wicks and first-round pick Makai Lemon arriving this offseason. Second-round selection Eli Stowers gives the offense a freak athlete at tight end. The offensive line remains one of the league’s best. I don’t know if we’ll see peak Saquon Barkley again, but he still ranked 10th in rushing yards (1,140) even while taking a big step back with the rest of the offense last season. The ingredients are there for Hurts to roar back on a contending team. He’ll have to be much better than the version of him we saw for much of last season, though, in an offense that will have him lining up under center more often. Inside Parks Frazier’s quarterback room – PhiladelphiaEagles.com He is directly in the bloodlines of the quarterback – the pulse, the veins, the heartbeat. That is, essentially, the job description for Parks Frazier, the Eagles’ quarterbacks coach after spending 2025 as the offensive passing game coordinator. He is the direct contact for Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee , Andy Dalton and Cole Payton, the four men who are, together, the Eagles’ quarterback room. “From the quarterback perspective, again, it’s just trying to take one of the hardest positions in sports and make it as simple as possible,” Frazier said. ”So you try to chunk things together. You try to make it where guys can play fast even though there’s a lot going on. So that’s been the biggest thing I learned from those guys is just, you know, you see it from the outside and you see all the motions, you see all the different plays, but how do you take that and you package it together to make it simple for the quarterback on the player, so they can go out there and play fast?” Play fast. Play with purpose. Make the right decisions using great fundamentals. Frazier spent the spring furthering his relationships with Hurts and McKee, and also building trust and the foundation with Dalton and Payton. Brendan Sorsby to the Eagles, or the NFL at all, is now looking pretty unlikely – BGN So much for rumors of the Philadelphia Eagles taking a flier on Brendan Sorsby. The NFL officially announced they will NOT be holding a Supplemental Draft this year, which leaves the embattled quarterback — who was already denied NCAA eligibility aftter gambling on his own team — without a path to the top professional football league in 2026. Four Pillars – Iggles Blitz Lurie learned valuable lessons from Rhodes tenure. You cannot sustain success by focusing on veteran players, especially ones at the end of their careers. You must draft and develop. You need a pipeline of young talent. You also need a strong connection between the Personnel Dept and the coaching staff. They must work together to build the right roster. The Eagles would make some hires that led to them being that kind of team and guess what…sustained success became a thing. Roob's Observations: Even with A.J. gone, Eagles are still loaded on offense originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia Why the Eagles’ offense won’t miss a beat without A.J. Brown , a look at DeVonta Smith ’s remarkable postseason performance and a vastly under-rated Eagles running back from the 1960s. Roob’s 10 Random Eagles Offseason Observations keeps rolling through the summer. At our current pace, we’ll have 17,894 total observations for you guys in calendar 2026! A.J. OR NOT, OFFENSE IS STILL LOADED: I’m not going to sit here and pretend the Eagles won’t miss A.J. Brown. Even at 29 and with balky knees and a bad attitude, he’s still a really good wide receiver, and we saw that at times last year. But when you focus instead on what the Eagles do have on offense, there is no reason this can’t be a top-five unit in 2026. Super Bowl MVP at quarterback. Three-time 1,000-yard receiver now WR1, a 1 st -round rookie at WR2 and take your pick of Dontayvion Wicks or Hollywood Brown as WR3. A tight end who’s got the 5 th -most yards among tight ends over the last seven years and a promising rookie at TE2. A superstar running back and a backup who averaged 5.9 yards per carry last year. And an offensive line with three Pro Bowlers and an all-pro that’s among the league’s best when healthy. And a play caller who is going to be a massive upgrade. The Eagles’ offense last year averaged 21.1 points, 311 yards, 194 passing yards and 117 rushing yards per game. Pathetic, really. With what they have now? No reason this offense can’t average 30 points, 370 total yards, 230 passing yards and 140 rushing yards per game. They’re loaded. Just focus on what they have, not what they lost. JALEN HURTS STAT OF THE WEEK: Jalen Hurts has 63 career rushing touchdowns and needs seven to pass Hall of Famer Steve Van Buren for most in franchise history. Van Buren scored 69 from 1944 through 1951. Including playoffs, Hurts already has the most in franchise history with 73, two more than Van Buren. WHAT ABOUT DAMEON PIERCE ? Veteran running back Dameon Pierce is an interesting addition. Pierce, who signed with the Eagles in March, only has 54 carries over the past two years but had a heck of a rookie year with the Texans in 2022, rushing for 939 yards and four TDs with 30 catches. Now, that was a long tim ago, and he really hasn’t done much since, although he did average 7.3 yards on 40 carries in 2024. The Texans really haven’t had much of an offensive line the last few years, and Pierce didn’t have a lot to work with. He finished last year with the Chiefs but only had four carries. But one upon a time he was a pretty tough, explosive back and behind a capable o-line he could add some juice to the running game. Along with Bijan Robinson and Salem’s Jon Taylor, he’s one of only three NFL running backs with multiple touchdown runs of at least 75 yards over the last five seasons, so there’s something there. The Eagles didn’t pay anything for Pierce, and with a good summer he could make the final roster as a fourth running back behind Saquon Barkley , Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley . Elijah Mitchell , who just signed last week, is in a similar spot, coming off one big year with the 49ers back in 2021 (963 yards, five TDs) and very little since. One of these veteran running backs will probably stick. My money’s on Pierce. ACTUALLY, PHILLY IS CLOSE TO HEAVEN: We all saw where A.J. Brown said of being in New England , “I know this ain’t heaven, but it’s close to it.” If I’m a member of the Eagles’ organization, I find that insulting and disrespectful. During his time in Philly, Brown had over 5,000 receiving yards, made two Pro Bowls, was a 1 st – or 2 nd -team all-pro three times, reached two Super Bowls, won one and made $87.2 million. And then after playing like garbage in the playoff game against the 49ers and probably costing his team a win, after whining his way out of town and after one freaking OTA practice you’re going to call New England close [... truncated ...]
