On Tuesday, the Giants released receiver Odell Beckham Jr. On Wednesday, Giants coach Jack Harbaugh addressed the decision to pull the plug on OBJ 2.0. “I had, you know, a great conversation with Odell, and, you know, it’s tough,” Harbaugh told reporters. “But we just weren’t getting enough, you know? It just wasn’t working for us . And like I told him, I wanted to be able to get more. I wanted him to be able to do more. I wanted to get him on the field more. We just, whatever reason, we weren’t able to do it. Put it on us. We weren’t able to get it done. But at this point in time, that’s kind of where we were. And we needed to move on.” Harbaugh was reminded of last week’s comments regarding the possibility of Beckham getting more chances in the offense. “Well, I think I said I hoped he would get more chances,” Harbaugh said, “That’s what I said. So nothing changed. I did hope he would get more chances. And he didn’t. You know, and that’s where we stood. So I felt like, that being the case, we’re not gonna be able to get it done. Roster spot-wise, we need more out of that spot, and that’s what we’re gonna do. Nothing about Odell. Nothing that he could do, in that sense. It’s just we weren’t able to get it done, make it fit, make it work, whatever you want to call it. And I was hoping we could, and we didn’t.” (And, yes, Harbaugh did say he hoped it would happen on Sunday.) The problem is that Beckham was too deep on the depth chart to not play special teams. They needed someone who, when only getting limited snaps on offense, could do more in the third phase — like Braxton Berrios and Charlie Jones will. The injuries made it necessary to tweak the roster to ensure that the guys at the back end were able to contribute, in some fashion. Through three games, OBJ had become forgotten. And it’s unlikely he’ll return. His number, 13, already has been re-issued to quarterback Jake Haener, whose prior number (18) was claimed by new backup quarterback J.J. McCarthy
The New York Giants have released veteran receiver Odell Beckham Jr., opting to keep players who contribute on special teams. Despite a feel-good reunion, Beckham's lack of special teams play and insufficient on-field production, especially with QB Jaxson Dart injured, led to his departure. It is uncertain if Beckham will sign with another team, such as the Rams or 49ers, or if he will be inactive for the remainder of the season
Giants put Brian Burns on IR, sign WR Charlie Jones off practice squad
The Giants’ roster moves on Tuesday included moving linebacker Brian Burns to injured reserve. Burns tore his ACL in Sunday’s loss to the Titans and will join quarterback Jaxson Dart on the sideline for the rest of the 2026 season. Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux will be the main contributors off the edge in Burns’s absence. The Giants also released wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on Tuesday and they filled the two open roster spots with wide receivers. Braxton Berrios is one of them — as previously reported — and Charlie Jones is the other one. Both wideouts were on the practice squad. Jones played in 33 games for the Bengals over the last three seasons and had three touchdowns as a returner — one punt return and two kickoff returns — while playing a limited role on offense
The Giants released longtime starting wideout Darius Slayton this week and they released a depth chart showing who is now on the first team on Tuesday. Malik Nabers fills one of the spots and Darnell Mooney is listed next to him as the other starter. While many teams also list a third wideout or slot receiver among their starters, the Giants only went with a pair of wideouts on the first string. Mooney signed with the Giants as a free agent this offseason and is listed ahead of Odell Beckham. Rookie Malachi Fields is behind Nabers and the Giants do not have any other receivers on their 53-man roster at present. Braxton Berrios and Charlie Jones are among the wideouts on the practice squad and are listed on the depth chart as returners, so that group could grow once the Giants finalize their roster for Sunday night’s game against the Cowboys

Bengals release several players, set initial 53-man roster

As training camp approaches, the Cincinnati Bengals are set to finalize their 53-man roster. This prediction outlines potential key players at quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end, with several players projected to make the cut and others facing release
Jones played almost exclusively on special teams in 2025, notching just one target in 14 games while compiling 1,084 kick-return yards and 115 punt-return yards. He's scored a touchdown on special teams in each of his three NFL seasons while returning 50 punts and 47 kickoffs, but the 2023 fourth-round pick has just eight receptions over that span. He'll likely maintain a roster spot on the Bengals in 2026 thanks to his contributions as a return man
