Jaguars sign Nick Mullens and Joey Aguilar to practice squad, cut three quarterbacks
The Jaguars have announced their moves to reduce their roster to 53 players. Jacksonville waived linebacker Yasir Abdullah, quarterback Joey Aguilar, defensive tackle Tommy Akingbesote, defensive lineman T.J. Bollers, wide receiver Brady Boyd, receiver Chandler Brayboy, linebacker Amari Burney, offensive lineman Jerome Carvin, defensive end Quindarius Dunnigan, tight end Patrick Herbert, cornerback Preston Hodge, defensive tackle Jalen Hunt, Kiser, offensive lineman Ricky Lee, linebacker Jalen McLeod, offensive lineman Timothy McKay, cornerback Jabbar Muhammed, safety Devin Neal Jr., offensive lineman Jimto Obidegwu, receiver Trebor Peña, safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig, running back J’Mari Taylor, safety Trevian Thomas, receiver Michael Wortham, and offensive lineman Kilian Zierer. The Jags released cornerback Corey Ballentine, offensive lineman Geron Christian Jr., running back DeeJay Dallas, offensive lineman Chuma Edoga, receiver Tim Jones, quarterback Nick Mullens, offensive lineman Sam Mustipher, linebacker Baylon Spector, and receiver Austin Trammell. Offensive lineman Patrick Mekari and defensive end Zach Durfee were both placed on injured reserve with a designation to return. The team also traded tight end Hunter Long to the Cardinals. Jacksonville also sent a 2028 seventh-round pick to Arizona in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round pick
Jaguars releasing Nick Mullens after Quinn Ewers trade
The Miami Dolphins traded QB Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars, with the Dolphins receiving a 2028 sixth-round pick in return
Quinn Ewers is on the move. According to a report from NFL Network, the Dolphins are trading Ewers to the Jaguars. The two teams will swap Day 3 draft picks in 2028 to complete the deal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Ewers, 23, was a seventh-round pick in last year’s draft. He started three games for Miami late last season, with the club going 1-2 in those contests. He completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 662 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions in his four appearances. The Dolphins have Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski remaining on their roster at quarterback behind starter Malik Willis. The Jaguars had Nick Mullens, Carter Bradley, and rookie Joey Aguilar on their roster behind starter Trevor Lawrence
It’s mid-August, and that means preseason NFL football is in full swing. A number of former Tennessee Vols are looking for jobs in the league, and among them are two quarterbacks in Joe Milton and Joey Aguilar. Milton was traded last offseason to the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent the 2025 season on the 53-man […]
The Jaguars will be missing their biggest names when they take the field in New Orleans for their preseason opener on Saturday. Head coach Liam Coen said at a Tuesday press conference that the team’s starters will not play against the Saints. The Jaguars will also have a joint practice with the NFC South club this week, so those players will get work in what Coen called a “controlled setting.” With Trevor Lawrence out of the picture for Saturday, Coen said that quarterback Carter Bradley will get a lot of playing time. Nick Mullens and Joey Aguilar are the other quarterbacks on the roster. The Jaguars will play the Panthers and the Buccaneers in their final two preseason games
Now that minicamps have concluded, we finally have an official record of all of the contracts that undrafted free agents have signed this draft cycle. Yes, it does take this long for all of the official numbers to be reported in. We’ve touched on some of the numbers that the Green Bay Packers’ undrafted free agents signed for , but now we can compare apples to apples, seeing where they end up on the curve of other players signed at their positions this offseason. Wonder where the Packers’ undrafted players rank at their positions in terms of guaranteed money? You’ve come to the right place. Let’s dive in. $5,000 guaranteed 10th of 12 UDFA quarterbacks In the quarterback market, there were really six players who received big guaranteed money (north of $200,000). Everyone else received $15,000 or less, to put into perspective of how big the dropoff was between that group of six and the second half of the class. The quarterbacks who got significant guarantees were Jalon Daniels , Jack Strand, Luke Altmyer, Joey Aguilar, Miller Moss and Haynes King . Kyron Drones wasn’t given big guarantees, but the Packers have clearly had their eyes on him. He was a pre-draft visitor for the squad. $15,000 guaranteed 18th of 29 running backs 12 running backs made at least $90,000 this class, then there was a pretty significant dropoff after that. Jaden Nixon is roughly in the middle of the pack among running back guarantees, but it’s worth noting that Damon Bankston, an undrafted signee for the New York Giants who took a pre-draft visit with the Packers this offseason, signed for $115,000. Nixon is making just 13 percent of Bankston’s guarantees, so don’t be surprised if Bankston ends up back on Green Bay ’s radar after roster cutdowns. We’ve seen pre-draft visitors start their careers with other franchises and find their way back to the Packers before. $215,000 guaranteed 12 of 66 receivers This was a big spender for the Packers. For perspective, the highest-paid free agent (in terms of guarantees) for Green Bay in 2025 was defensive tackle Nazir Stackhouse , who had $165,000 guaranteed on his rookie deal . Receiver J. Michael Sturdivant, who was projected to be a draft choice by many, got a bit more than that. He’s technically the 12th highest-paid UDFA receiver (in guarantees), but he’s closer to making as much as the second-highest guaranteed receiver ($277,500) than the 15th ($135,000). It was pretty tight at the top of the UDFA receiver market, and Sturdivant was among the top players in the group. $15,000 guaranteed 17 of 30 tight ends R.J. Maryland, son of former Packer Russell Maryland, is making middle-of-the-pack money for a UDFA tight end. Maryland looked like a borderline top-100 pick at one point in 2024 before suffering an ACL tear that required him to wear a long knee brace for the 2025 season. He did not look like the same athlete on film in 2025, but he tested well pre-draft, so Green Bay is probably rolling the dice on a return to form from him. Worth noting here is that the Packers were willing to pay UDFA tight end Eni Falayi at least $125,000 guaranteed , more than eight times what Maryland received, but Falayi failed his physical upon reporting to Green Bay. Since being let go with an injury designation, Falayi has yet to sign with another NFL team. $215,000 guaranteed t-21st of 64 offensive linemen Let’s talk about these two together, since they are making the same money and roughly play the same position. Both Josh Gesky and Dillon Wade project best to guard at the NFL level, but Wade has been a player who has actually been very versatile at the college level, while Gesky was exclusively a guard. For whatever it’s worth, I’ve heard that Illinois’ staff was very high on Gesky (who visited the Packers pre-draft) and were telling scouts that he was a better player than J.C. Davis, who ended up being an NFL draft pick. Early in camp, though, it was Wade who got the nod with the second-team offensive line [... truncated ...]
During Jacksonville Jaguars' OTA Day 4, the offense showed significant improvement in the deep passing game. Key plays included multiple long touchdowns by Brian Thomas Jr. against defenders Jarrian Jones and Montaric Brown, and impressive catches by Parker Washington. Despite some incompletions and an interception on a deep pass to Washington by Montaric Brown, the focus on the deep ball was evident throughout the practice
Adds: Joey Aguilar. Drops: CJ Daniels
The Jaguars signed Aguilar as an undrafted free agent Sunday. Aguilar is now officially on the books and set to compete with Nick Mullens and Carter Bradly for the honor of backing up Trevor Lawrence. The quarterback's 3,565 passing yards and 24 passing touchdowns as a senior provide a strong foundation for the summer he will spend slinging the rock against NFL veterans in an effort to suit up at the highest level
Aguilar is slated to sign with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. The seventh-year senior out of Tennessee will compete with Nick Mullens and Carter Bradley for the chance to sit behind Trevor Lawrence. Aguilar ended his extended college career by completing 67 percent of his passes for 3,565 yards, 24 pass touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The 24-year-old has a solid arm, good deep ball potential and a great frame, but he struggles with seeing the field. This weakness is especially evident when pressured, due to a lack of pocket elusiveness that led to eight fumbles in 2025 (29 in three years starting). Aguilar also had surgery in January to remove a benign tumor on his throwing shoulder, adding to the worries already in place about his age as he enters the league. If the Jaguars can help Aguilar overcome some of his processing-based deficiencies, his natural feel for leading receivers and strong arm may win him consistent work in the NFL
