Abdullah posted three rushes for 11 yards and caught his only target for two yards during Sunday's 20-13 defeat versus the Broncos. Abdullah was most involved on special teams, though he was on the field for six of the Jaguars' 59 offensive snaps, finishing behind Bhayshul Tuten (30), Chris Rodriguez (13) and LeQuint Allen (nine). The 30-year-old should continue to see a similar workload in each game moving ahead, so his fantasy ceiling can't get much lower, especially with Tuten, Rodriguez and Allen in the scenario
Jacksonville Jaguars RB Ameer Abdullah may drop to RB4 or be cut as LeQuint Allen Jr. returns from injury and takes a larger role
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Ameer Abdullah carried the ball four times for 32 yards and had one reception for zero yards in a 34-10 Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns. Abdullah played just five offensive snaps, but he made the most of his opportunities with five touches in total. Abdullah played far behind Bhayshul Tuten (28 snaps) and Chris Rodriguez Jr. (23 snaps). Tuten led the Jaguars with 15 rushes for 66 yards, but Abdullah actually out-rushed Rodriguez on fewer attempts. Rodriguez finished the game with six carries for 23 yards. The Jaguars dominated the game from the start, and Abdullah benefited from the blowout with an efficient performance. Abdullah is currently rostered in 0% of Yahoo leagues and will continue to play behind Tuten and Rodriguez. For now, he is safe to leave on the waiver wire
Abdullah's 32‑yard effort was modest and his limited usage raises doubts for fantasy value
Abdullah earned a spot on the Jaguars' 53-man roster following a strong training camp, John Oehser of the team's official site reports. Abdullah and LeQuint Allen (undisclosed) will enter the regular season as the rotational running backs behind co-starters Bhayshul Tuten (illness) and Chris Rodriguez. Abdullah played in only one of the Jaguars' three preseason games, but he did enough during training camp and joint practices to crack the 53-man roster for the 2026 campaign. The 2015 second-rounder appeared in 13 regular-season games for the Colts last year, finishing with 14 carries for 60 yards and touchdown along with 16 catches (on 17 targets) for 99 yards
Abdullah carried the ball six times for 45 yards and caught three of four targets for 37 yards in Friday's 34-17 preseason loss to the Panthers. With the Jaguars' resting Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez and LeQuint Allen sidelined by a soft-tissue injury, Abdullah and DeeJay Dallas split the backfield reps in the first half. While they each saw nine touches, Abdullah outgained his competition 82 scrimmage yards to 40, and Dallas also lost a fumble. Even at age 33, Abdullah still looks like he can contribute as a passing-down option and kickoff returner, and if Allen isn't 100 percent by Week 1, the veteran could claim the RB3 role to begin the season
9 players to watch in the Raiders-Texans preseason matchup
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said last month that the team is expecting running back Bhayshul Tuten to have a big year for them, but Tuten has not nailed down the top spot on the depth chart. The team released its first depth chart of the year and it shows Tuten or Chris Rodriguez listed in the No. 1 spot in the backfield. Tuten is in his second year with the Jaguars while Rodriguez signed with the team as a free agent this offseason. Le’Quint Allen, Ameer Abdullah, DeeJay Dallas, and J’Mari Taylor make up the rest of the running back group. The Jaguars have one other position with a pair of players listed at the top. Ventrell Miller and Branson Combs are joined at one of the team’s linebacker spots
