Jaguars running back Bhayshul Tuten has reached the end zone three times today, but only two of his touchdowns counted. Texans tight end Foster Moreau also has two touchdowns today, and a Texans field goal on top of it gives Houston a 17-14 lead at halftime. A Tuten touchdown run was overturned on a bad holding call early in the game, a major error by the official that was particularly costly when the Jaguars came away with no points after a Trevor Lawrence interception on the same possession. But in the second quarter, Tuten left no doubt when he caught two short Trevor Lawrence passes and scored on both of them. On the first, he winded his way through the Texans’ defense for a 27-yard touchdown. The second was easy, as the Texans left him open on second-and-goal for a two-yard touchdown. The Texans’ passing game is also making plays. Texans wide receiver Jaylin Noel has two catches, one for 50 yards and one for 34 yards. Texans wide receiver Nico Collins burned Travis Hunter for a 42-yard gain, and later drew a pass interference penalty on Hunter in the end zone to give the Texans first-and-goal at the 1-yard line. Texans wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. made his first catch as a Texan, a 14-yarder over the middle in the second quarter. But while the wide receivers are getting the big plays, it’s the tight end, Moreau, who is getting into the end zone. He has two touchdown catches, one from six yards out and one from one yard out. The Texans have a couple of big injury concerns on defense, as linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair is being evaluated for a concussion, and safety Reed Blankenship was carted to the locker room late in the second quarter. Texans lead as C.J. Stroud throws touchdown pass, Trevor Lawrence throws interception
The Jaguars’ secondary is struggling today in London, and Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud is making them pay. First, Texans wide receiver Nico Collins juked out Jaguars cornerback Travis Hunter and blew by him on a deep route. Stroud hit Collins for a 42-yard catch. From Walter Payton to Emmitt Smith to Adrian Peterson to Derrick Henry , the NFL has always had prominent names at running back, but the depth of the position is cyclical. When the league was experiencing a higher volume of 4,000-yard passers, the number of running backs exceeding 1,000 rushing yards fell. But the tide may be turning and embracing the feature back once again. Over the last four years, the league has averaged 15 rushers exceeding 1,000 rushing yards each season. The previous five years saw just 9.6 rushers accomplish that feat each year. The numbers are obviously slightly boosted over the last four seasons due to the implementation of a 17-game schedule. But there are 18 on pace for 1,000 rushing yards this season, with a handful of others, including Saquon Barkley, close. The usual suspects are among that group, but so too are the likes of Kyle Monangai , Bhayshul Tuten and Cam Skattebo . CBS Sports' Pete Prisco wrote a story in September about the passing game diminishing over the last decade. Some of the reasoning applied in that article also translates to the run game. Before diving into the change and why it helps the run game flourish, let's look at the raw data. All data is from TruMedia and is based on the regular season Through Week 3 of the 2026 NFL regular season, teams are averaging 61.5 offensive plays per game. The average had been 63.1 over the past decade. When slicing the pie, designed quarterback runs have dropped precipitously each of the past five years. Quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson are still effectively scrambling, but those opportunities and more are being funneled to running backs. Last season's pass attempts per team (545.0) was the lowest over the last decade. With the exception of the 2023 season, the percentage of run plays has risen every year since 2019. The Vic Fangio effect As Prisco discussed, disciples of Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio have pervaded the league and spread the two high safety look, which limits explosive plays in the run game. The number of explosive plays last season was the lowest since 2017. Defenses are content to give up small gains, expecting offenses to grow impatient and make a mistake pushing the ball downfield. If the opposition puts fewer or lighter players in the box, then running the football is an effective counter. Offensive line play and creative defensive formations For quite some time, there has been a narrative that there are not enough quality offensive tackles in the NFL. The institution of the transfer portal and NIL, which encourages players to change colleges, has had a two-fold impact on the unit in the pros. In some cases, a change of scenery exposes some players to more resources and better coaching. In other cases, a lack of continuity may impede a lineman's development. Prisco also wrote how defensive coaches, such as Jesse Minter, Mike Macdonald and Brian Flores, have done a great job giving the opposition exotic pre- and post-snap looks. NFL teams have had a greater willingness to transition a lineman from the position they played in college to a new one in the NFL, which I wrote about in 2025 . As a result, little details like communicating and handling those aforementioned twists and stunts by the defensive line can often get lost in translation. Running the football is one way to mitigate those communication issues. Leaning on the defense in the run game is often more natural for linemen than asking them to hold up against more athletic pass rushers. Improved starting field position and the rise of the kicker with a leg cannon The new kickoff rules instituted in 2024 have led to improved average starting field position, with the average field position being 30.2 yards or greater since the rules took effect. It had never reached the 29-yard line over the prior decade. Meanwhile, the number of made field goal attempts of 50+ yards has exploded. Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence explains why he took knee at 1-yard line instead of scoring a touchdown
If you have Trevor Lawrence on your fantasy team or maybe sprinkled some wagers on him to score a touchdown in Week 3, you endured one of the toughest beats of the weekend. In Jacksonville's 35-6 thumping of the New England Patriots on Sunday, Lawrence chose to work the clock instead of cashing in on a clear lane to the end zone. On a third-and-4 attempt at the New England 16-yard line, Lawrence ran up the left side of the field, but before he crossed the goal line for the score, he took a knee. During his postgame press conference, Lawrence further expounded on taking a knee in that situation. "It's something we talk about all the time," Lawrence said, via Action Sports Jax . "Potentially, in those situations, like going down and keeping the clock running. That was too much time. I looked at the clock after and was like, 'Ah, still eight minutes left.' "So, it was probably unnecessary there, but just trying to eat as much clock as possible. They use a timeout after that. Trying to give them as few chances as possible to get back into the game. ... People will probably be all over it online, I'm sure. Probably wasn't the best decision, but we scored the next play, so whatever, get Bhayshun a touchdown. It's cool. Let him get in the end zone." While Lawrence may not have reached pay dirt there, the Jaguars quarterback did throw for three touchdowns in the win. That helped him pass Mark Brunell for the most games with three-plus passing touchdowns (13) in franchise history and pass Blake Bortles for the second-most passing touchdowns (105) in franchise history

Trevor Lawrence on odd kneeldown: I was just trying to help Bhayshul Tuten fantasy owners
The Jaguars won in a laugher against the Patriots on Sunday and that made it much easier to laugh about an odd choice that Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence made in the fourth quarter of the game. Lawrence ran through the Patriots defense and had no one between him and the end zone when he took a knee on the 1-yard-line to stop at a 15-yard run for a first down. Had that play come with a minute or so left, Lawrence would be hailed for his smart move but there was a bit more time on the clock this week. Quite a bit more time, actually. Lawrence took his knee with eight minutes left to play and running back Bhayshul Tuten took care of the final yard on the next play to give the Jags their final points in a 35-6 win. “I’m trying to help support the Bhayshul Tuten fantasy people out there,” Lawrence said on CBS after the game. Lawrence gave a bit more of an explanation at his postgame press conference. He said making plays like that to kill clock are something the Jaguars talk about in games and he realizes it was probably overkill to do it with so much time left on the clock. “Probably was unnecessary there, just trying to use as much clock as possible,” Lawrence said. “They used a timeout after that. Trying to give them as few chances as possible to get back in the game. If you get into the analytics, people will probably be all over it online I’m sure. Jacksonville Jaguars running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. has emerged as a last-minute riser in fantasy football ahead of the start of the 2026 NFL season. The narrative for several months has been that Bhayshul Tuten would lead the Jags' backfield, and while that still might be the case, it's worth noting that the team's official depth chart lists Tuten and Rodriguez as sharing the No. 1 role. Perhaps we shouldn't be that surprised. After all, Tuten was the backup to Travis Etienne Jr. last year, so he hasn't handled a workhorse role yet. Additionally, there was plenty of buzz during the offseason that head coach Liam Coen expected big things from Rodriguez, whom he coached in college. The exact fantasy outlook for both of these backs remains a bit murky until we've seen how the backfield shakes out through the first game or two. For now, we'd view Tuten as a fringe RB2/RB3 and Rodriguez as a fringe RB3/RB4. That's still enough to get Rodriguez on the fantasy radar in 10+ team leagues, and he's a potential Week 1 flex for managers in 14+ team leagues, especially against a Browns defense that is trending down
