The team desperately wanted Richardson to be a thing, but Jones had different plans. He decisively won that camp battle and never looked back. Jones was putting up career efficiency numbers midway through the season and Steichen looked like a lock to make the playoffs for the first time in three seasons as the Colts’ boss. The Colts were at 8-0, but even before Jones suffered his season-ending Achilles injury, cracks in the facade were beginning to form. His efficiency dropped in his final five games and the Colts lost four of those contests. Things got so bad after Jones went down that Phillip Rivers was drawn out of retirement for “one last job” that went as well as it does in the movies. The late-season collapse left Steichen out of the playoffs for the third time in three tries. The Colts bet the house on this iteration of the roster when they brought back Jones and Alec Pierce on pricey deals. It’s now or never for Steichen and his staff. Jones ranked top-10 in both EPA per play and completion percent over expected. Pro Football Focus charted him with top-10 rates of both accurate and accurate plus throws. Add in five rushing touchdowns and Jones was on pace to finish as the QB8 by points per game before exiting Week 14 early. This, however, isn’t the complete story. Jones turned the ball over a staggering five times in Week 9 versus the Steelers . He stemmed the bleeding on bad plays over the next few weeks but still struggled in most efficiency metrics. Four of his five worst games by EPA per play came from Week 9 to Week 14. Jones went from averaging .344 EPA per play over his first eight games to -.03 over his final five. The big shift was his inability to handle pressure. Jones threw six touchdowns and had a 9.8 percent pressure-to-sack rate in his early-season split. Those numbers dropped to one score and a 22 percent P2S when defenses got to him from Week 9 onward. Jones has never been particularly good under pressure, so maybe it shouldn’t be a surprise that his numbers came crashing back to earth. Even if that aspect of his game is here to stay, it’s also hard to deny how efficient he was to start the season. All signs point to Jones being ready for Week 1, and fantasy managers are only being asked to pay a QB25 pricetag to find out who the real Daniel Jones is. As long as Jones retains his deep ball, Alec Pierce will be happy. The veteran wideout posted a breakout season in 2025 with 1,007 yards on a paltry 47 grabs. He scored seven times and led the league in yards per reception for the second season in a row. Despite the career year, Pierce’s role as a modest-volume deep threat didn’t change. He simply hit more home runs than the previous season. It was the first 1,000-yard season for a player with an aDOT over 20 since the turn of the century. According to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, the Indianapolis Colts’ playmaking core; specifically, their top running back, wide receiver, and tight end collectively rank as slightly above league average–coming in at #14 overall : 14. Indianapolis Colts 2025 rank: 16 | 2024 rank: 22 Even after trading Michael Pittman Jr., the Colts sport above-average or better contributors at all three spots we’re considering here. Their playmakers all looked much better in 2025 with better quarterback play, but none made a bigger leap than Alec Pierce , who finally saw steady deep-ball opportunities throughout the season. Pierce averaged 2.2 yards per route run during his breakout campaign, which was good for 14th in the league among wideouts. I still think there’s some potential for Pierce to take another step forward in 2026, while Josh Downs should see more market share after the Pittman trade. He has been efficient out of the slot. There are stars away from wide receiver too. Jonathan Taylor was an Offensive Player of the Year contender for most of the season before fading down the stretch, generating big plays as both a rusher and receiver by shrugging off and running past tackle attempts. And Tyler Warren was a Swiss Army knife for coach Shane Steichen as a rookie, lining up at just about every conceivable spot on the field and creating havoc for opposing linebackers and defensive coordinators. He was on pace to top 1,000 receiving yards as a rookie before the offense broke down after Daniel Jones got hurt. I’m a little concerned that Pierce is more of a really high-end WR2 than a legitimate WR1 in a very good offense, but if the Colts’ wide receivers can hold up their end of the bargain, Taylor and Warren are top-five at their respective spots. Even though star workhorse Jonathan Taylor faded a bit down the 2025 season’s stretch, after initially being a bona fide NFL MVP candidate earlier in the year, he remains a Top 5 running back in the sport overall. Namely, his diminished production later in the season coincided with starting quarterback Daniel Jones’s fractured fibula, and ultimately, with the latter’s season-ending Achilles injury–which derailed the Colts season entirely. Still, Taylor rushed for 1,585 rushing yards and a league-leading 18 rushing touchdowns on his 323 carries–en route to Pro Bowl honors for a consecutive season. Meanwhile, entering a contract year, the 26-year-old Alec Pierce had a breakout season in Indianapolis, cementing himself as one of the league’s elite deep threats and his newfound role as the Colts lead wideout. The Colts rewarded him with what was a historic contract extension earlier this offseason, and the hope is that he’ll only continue to grow and blossom into a more well-rounded wide receiver regarding his overall route-running and receiving skill-set. With Pittman Jr. out of the picture following a trade to Pittsburgh , like Tyler Warren below here, Pierce appears poised for a larger receiving role headed into the 2025 campaign. The hope is that he can continue to be legit #1 wideout, and who knows, maybe even crack the backend of the Top 10 wideouts currently in the NFL league-wide. Lastly, Tyler Warren, the Colts first round pick from 2025, had a very impressive rookie debut, even earning Pro Bowl honors. Specifically, Warren caught 76 receptions for 817 total receiving yards and 4 rushing touchdowns last year, while adding 1 rushing touchdown on the ground. Like Taylor, his play dipped a bit in Jones’s late season absence, but he’s expected to see an even larger role with Pittman Jr.’s departure, as previously denoted. While he’s still young at 24-years-old, Warren could crack into the back half of the Top 5 tight ends in the NFL
The first 10 weeks of the Colts ' 2025 season went about as well as they could have hoped, but the final seven left a lot to be desired. Seven straight losses left the Colts with an 8-9 record and they saw quarterback Daniel Jones go down with a torn Achilles on the road to the finish line. The injury had a negative impact on the entire offense and it led to a noticeable drop in production for tight end Tyler Warren . Warren caught 50 passes for 616 yards during the 8-2 start to the season, but only had 26 catches for 201 yards the rest of the way. Jones was back on the field in the spring and he said he's expecting a "jump" from his strong first year as an NFL player. “I think he was a really smart football player as a rookie,’’ Jones said, via Mike Chappell of Fox 59. “Kind of came in with a great feel and instincts — I’m sure you guys have heard that plenty — but I think that skill is only something that gets better with experience and reps. He’s gotten more reps, and you can tell, the way he sees things now is even better, and he’s moving well.’’ Warren led the Colts in targets last year and Michael Pittman 's departure opens up even more work for the tight end in what the Colts are hoping will be a more complete season for all involved

With fantasy football drafts ramping up and NFL training camps just over a month away, the time has come to narrow down which players could be this year's breakout stars. It seems easy in hindsight, but identifying young talent on the verge of making a major leap is often what propels fantasy managers to championships. So today, we're finishing the series off by looking at tight ends. 2026 Breakout Candidates : QB | RB | WR | TE 2026 Fantasy Projection Receptions Receiving Yards Receiving TDs Colston Loveland 78 1,015 6 Loveland and Tyler Warren had very strong rookie seasons last year, so if your initial inclination is to dismiss them for being overqualified as breakout candidates in 2026, I understand it completely. However, we haven't even come close to their ceilings yet. Loveland was the TE18 in fantasy points per game during his debut campaign, with 58 receptions, 713 yards and six touchdowns. Over the final nine weeks of the fantasy season, he really began to assert himself by emerging as the fifth-highest scoring tight end during that span. The 22-year-old really flashed his potential down the stretch, becoming a focal point of the Bears' passing attack while posting stat lines of 6-94-1, 10-91-1, 8-137-0 and 4-56-0 over his last four outings, including Chicago's two playoff appearances. He also saw 48 targets combined in those contests, with at least 10 targets in every game. There's a reason why Loveland is being taken as the third tight end off the board in fantasy drafts. He has the best chance of anyone at the position to challenge Brock Bowers and Trey McBride for the fantasy scoring crown. As a rookie, Warren was the TE6 in fppg through Week 10, before he dealt with some injuries down the stretch and lost his starting quarterback Daniel Jones to a torn Achilles. With Michael Pittman Jr. now wearing a Steelers' jersey and Alec Pierce recovering from ankle surgery that could sideline him into training camp, there's a clear opportunity for Warren to dominate targets for the Colts this year. After all, Warren led the team in targets as a rookie with 112, followed by Pittman with 111, Josh Downs with 88 and Pierce with 84. Pierce and Downs will also benefit from Pittman's departure, but Warren has the talent to be an elite fantasy tight end if he can carve out more volume. It also stands to reason that coming off a serious knee injury, a less mobile version of Jones will look to get the ball out quick, which plays into Warren's high-end range of outcomes. Warren finished second among all tight ends in yards after the catch, a coveted skill when trying to identify breakouts at the position. If you're looking for this year's Tucker Kraft — a young tight end with excellent YAC ability who could be one of the top two targets in his offense — Warren is that guy. Not only will Las Vegas have both return healthy in 2026, but the Raiders added All-Pro center Tyler Linderbaum , a dominant force in the run game, as well as multiple guards via free agency and the NFL Draft. There was no room to run for the explosive rookie, but help has arrived. Justin Jefferson doesn’t need Tom Brady at quarterback; he just needs serviceable. Carson Wentz is not the ideal option for your star fantasy WR, and yet, Jefferson averaged 95 receiving YPG in his five starts, which would have ranked third among wideouts. Kyler Murray may not be everyone’s favorite, but he is no doubt an upgrade from Jefferson’s 2025 QB play as a proven option for fantasy weapons. DeAndre Hopkins is the best receiver Murray has had in his career, with the former Cardinals QB helping him finish as the WR10 over their three seasons together. Smith had 75+ receiving yards in all three games without Brown since he was traded to Philly, with 9+ targets in all of them. Makai Lemon was added, but Smith gets his best shot of finishing as a WR1 in PPG for the first time in his career. After coming back from an ACL tear he suffered in college, Panthers RB and 2024 second-round pick Jonathon Brooks re-tore his right ACL in Week 14 of 2024. After missing the entire 2025 season, Brooks looks ready to go for this season with a real opportunity at making an impact. With Rico Dowdle gone in free agency and Chuba Hubbard coming off a career-worst season, Carolina chose to only sign free agent A.J. Dillon as its projected RB4. The Panthers are a surprisingly valuable fantasy RB spot with Dave Canales calling plays the last two seasons, giving Brooks a shot at making a major impact as a late-round pick. Indianapolis Colts second-year tight end Tyler Warren was very impressive in his first year in the NFL and finished as the TE6 in half-PPR scoring with 76 catches on his 112 targets for 817 yards and four touchdowns in 17 games played. The 23-year-old out of Penn State was the 14th overall pick in last year's draft, and he did not disappoint as the Colts finally appear to have found a long-term, high-end pass-catching option at the position. Most of Warren's production in 2025 came in the first half of the season, as he averaged 61.7 receiving yards in his first 10 NFL games before falling to 28.6 yards in his last seven games. It didn't help that starting quarterback Daniel Jones (Achilles) suffered a season-ending injury late in the year. With Jones expected to return in 2026 after signing a two-year extension, it cements Warren in as a top-five dynasty TE, especially since the Colts traded away receiver Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason

Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren converted 106 targets into 76 receptions, 817 yards, and four touchdowns as a rookie in 2025, and his opportunities could be even more bountiful in Year 2. The Colts have been shedding wide receivers since their mid-season trade for cornerback Sauce Gardner, in which they sent 2024 second-round pick Adonai Mitchell to the New York Jets. Shortly into the new league year, the team dealt Michael Pittman Jr. to the Steelers, and while they committed to Alec Pierce with a four-year, $114 million deal, Indianapolis has made no significant outside acquisitions through free agency or the draft. With Pittman gone, there is no player on the roster besides Warren who saw more than 84 targets last season, and the majority of passing work should now be divvied up between the trifecta of Warren, Pierce, and Josh Downs. Warren did see a significant decline in production following the season-ending Achilles injury suffered by Daniel Jones, so the quarterback situation in Indianapolis could hold significant weight in his ability to take the next step, but by all accounts, Jones is progressing well, and the team believes he will be ready for the start of the 2026 season. At RotoBaller's dynasty TE4, Warren is one of the few tight ends in the league in position to lead his team in targets and should remain a true fantasy difference-maker for the foreseeable future
