The Eagles made a change to their wide receiver group ahead of Sunday’s deadline to cut rosters to 90 players. They announced that they have signed Tahj Washington to the active roster. Brandon Hayes was waived in a corresponding move. Washington was a 2024 seventh-round pick by the Dolphins and was with the team until being waived earlier this week. He appeared in six games last season and had three catches for 37 yards. Hayes signed with the Eagles three weeks ago. He was undrafted out of Southeastern Louisiana. Wicks has a massive opportunity in 2026 in his fourth year in the NFL after being acquired from the Green Bay Packers in an offseason trade. The 25-year-old has a clear path to WR2 duties in Philly behind Smith after the Eagles sent A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots. The former fifth-rounder in 2023 from the University of Virginia has impressed in training camp so far as he looks for an expanded role in Philly's new-look offense. He’s prioritized this in many ways over the years, but heading in the 2026 season, we’re seeing more of the relationship building that’s happening behind the scenes and ahead of training camp. Not that these opportunities to connect as teammates and friends haven’t existed in the past, but there has seemingly been more cameras around to capture it this year. Whatever your opinion on football players posting their workouts, during a long offseason, it at least gives fans a little hope that the team is focused and building a solid foundation in their time away from the building. If nothing else, the 2026 Eagles roster should be as close as ever as they embark on (another) season with high expectations. One of the latest examples of the team connecting was Saquon Barkley , Cooper DeJean, Elijah Moore , and Kelee Ringo training together. We’ve seen Jalen Hurts hosting the entire QB room, and most of the team’s wide receivers and tight ends for a combination of on-field work and off-field bonding earlier in the summer, but it’s also really cool to see Eagles players from both the offense and defense finding ways to train together in the offseason. The Eagles DB room has also been working a lot the past few weeks with different combinations of corners and safeties, new guys and players returning to Vic Fangio’s defense. There have been many opportunities for some of the new guys to build chemistry with their teammates, and to forge a deeper connection with guys they’ve played with for years. Nothing highlights that last piece quite as much as Jalen Hurts and DeVonta Smith spending significant time together this offseason. That’s not entirely surprising given their long history and strong friendship, but both players seem even more committed to raising the bar this season. Bottom line, if a player was doing something positive for the community, at least one of his teammates was there to show support. It’s not just the players who are putting in work to connect this offseason, either. There are a lot of new faces throughout the coaching staff, and Sirianni has been working on bringing everyone together, according to Zach Berman of The Athletic . “Sirianni focused on team and staff bonding events this offseason. There was a team dinner and bowling outing. They played basketball at Saint Joseph’s University. On the last day of training camp, there was a cookout for families. Sirianni had a get-together with all the coaches at a Philadelphia establishment. Mannion hosted the offensive coaches at a separate event and invited Sirianni and his wife. This concept is not totally original, and similar stories from previous summers that take Sirianni’s temperature ahead of training camp would include comparable examples. Multiple reports have indicated that the Browns wanted defensive tackle Jalen Carter from the Eagles, but that the Eagles weren’t interested in that. The Eagles’ insistence on keeping Carter is a bit confusing, given that the forward-looking Eagles have yet to sign Carter to a second contract. In March, after the Eagles signed defensive tackle Jordan Davis to a new deal, it was leaked that they have gotten calls about Carter , which often is part of a strategy aimed at getting more. Tanner McKee’s limited reps included him hitting a flyswatter dummy, a short pass broken up by undrafted rookie Kapena Gushiken, a wormburner over the middle, and a short touchdown pass to Danny Gray . The clock is ticking toward June 1. Which means the time is coming for an A.J. Brown trade. The vibe has lingered for weeks that the Eagles will trade him. At this point, there’s only one viable destination: New England. If there was another team pursuing Brown, we’d know about it. The Eagles would have leaked it. The goal would be to pit two teams against each other in the hopes of getting the best possible return. As it stands, it’s the Patriots or no one. And with all indications pointing to the Eagles and Brown being beyond the point of no return, Philly’s only play is to make a deal. They’ve already planned for life without A.J. From signing Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore to trading for Dontavian Wicks to moving up in round one to draft Makai Lemon, the handwriting isn’t just written on the wall — it’s sandblasted into it. But what of the report that the two sides are “ not particularly close ”? Our guess is that the Eagles deliberately leaked it as a Hail Mary effort to get someone else to come to the table. The offense will feature more play-action and under-center work, which Hurts has hesitated to embrace at times in the past but has appeared very open to this offseason, according to sources. “As open as he’s ever been,” a source said. Hurts has been throwing off site with multiple Eagles receivers, including his new No. 1, Devonta Smith — assuming A.J. Brown is traded as expected — and veteran Elijah Moore . Some NFL personnel evaluators still consider him a top-12 quarterback in the league. The coaching staff not trusting Robinson to play much as a 24-year-old rookie is a bit of a red flag but we’ll see if he can earn a rotational role in Year 2. Vic Fangio seems to like Young more than most. Hall is competing for a depth job once again. Graham has some NFL experience and could push to be as high as DT4, though DT5 is more likely his ceiling. The Eagles designated Bernard as their international exemption but they’ll need to keep him on the 53-man roster (or use one of their two injured reserve/designated for return spots they have prior to roster cuts) to prevent him from hitting waivers. Given the Eagles’ willingness to spend a draft pick on a multi-year project, guessing they’re not going to risk losing Bernard. Preseason All-NFC East team: Defense edition – PhillyVoice Edge defenders: Brian Burns , Giants; Jonathan Greenard , Eagles. Burns finished second in the NFL with 16.5 sacks in 2025. He headlines the division’s edge defenders. And then it gets interesting. Greenard had a down year in 2025, but he had 24.5 combined sacks in 2023 and 2024. I expect Abdul Carter to make a bit of a leap in Year 2 after finishing strongly in 2025. Jalyx Hunt had 38 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 19 QB hits, 3 INTs (including a pick-six), a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and 3 pass breakups in the Eagles’ final 11 games last season.
