The NFL is expanding its international game schedule to up to 10 games per season as early as 2027 and will no longer allow teams to protect home games from being played overseas. Previously, teams could protect two games. The Detroit Lions are scheduled to play in Munich against the New England Patriots in November. Aidan Hutchinson's work is highlighted, Calvin Johnson offered advice to rookies, Sean McVay reflected on the Jared Goff trade, David Montgomery sold a home, and Nashville landed Super Bowl LXIV in 2030
The San Francisco 49ers beefed up their roster with several splash signings throughout the offseason . Those included signing All-Pro receiver Mike Evans and bringing back linebacker Dre Greenlaw . The 49ers also traded for defensive lineman Osa Odighizuwa, sending a 2026 third-round draft pick (No. 92 overall) to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange. Odighizuwa, 27, spent five seasons with the Cowboys after being selected 75th overall in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. In that span, he's piled up 216 tackles, 17 sacks and two forced fumbles. He expressed his excitement to play for the Niners during a podcast appearance with former All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman , a former Seahawk and 49er. "I just kind of like the way we've installed the things that we're doing, the identity that these kind of established, and we're establishing as we're going about this, and you know, I'm excited," Odighizuwa told Sherman. "I feel like getting some handcuffs taken off of me a little bit, to be able to be able to kind of have one of the better years that I've had against the run, if not best year that I've had. I'm looking forward to just being able to make plays within this scheme." Odighizuwa believes there's a real shot at the biggest trophy in football – The Lombardi. He wants to help the Niners win a Super Bowl. "(I) definitely want to make the deep playoff run, bro, and get to the dance. I want to get that ring for sure," Odighizuwa said. "Being on a team that's been in two of the last (seven Super Bowls) is very hopeful going into the playoffs. I think they made it to the second round of the playoffs with a bunch of guys hurt, you know what I mean." Along with his desire to bring a chip to the Bay Area, Odighizuwa has goals to prove that he's better than what he's displayed in the first five years of his career in the NFL. "For the past five years I haven't scratched the surface of the player that I am, you know what I mean? It hasn't been put on full display, so I just plan on putting that on display," Odighizuwa said. The NFL season for San Francisco kicks off on Sept. 10, when they travel to Melbourne, Australia to play the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1 . Rashee Rice is never going to be confused with Jerry Rice. So maybe it’s time for the Kansas City Chiefs to choose clarity as it pertains to their troubled wide receiver, who continues to give the team no reason to trust him. After testing positive for THC, a violation of Rice's probation stemming from his injurious and felonious driving behavior two years earlier, Rice has been ordered to immediately serve 30 days in jail , according to Dallas County court records reviewed by USA TODAY Sports on May 19. Rice is eligible to be released June 16. Whether he’ll be released by the Chiefs remains an open question. And while smoking weed and missing voluntary offseason training and a mandatory minicamp while parked behind bars because of it might not seem like a big deal, it’s unclear whether the drug component attached to Rice’s latest misstep could trigger yet another suspension from the NFL. OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) “We are aware of the report and will decline further comment at this time,” a league spokesman told USA TODAY Sports. According to ESPN, Rice will also now be forced to recuperate from a recent, if relatively minor, knee operation while in lockup − a circumstance that surely won't facilitate his recovery. The Chiefs have yet to comment. But they could say plenty with some (overdue?) decisive action. Rice served a six-game suspension last season in the aftermath of pleading guilty to two third-degree felony charges – collision involving serious bodily injury, and racing on a highway causing bodily injury – stemming from an incident on a Dallas-area highway on March 30, 2024, when several motorists were hurt and cars damaged after Rice, who was racing in a Lamborghini with friends, helped cause the pileup. He fled the scene before police arrived. It’s probably time for the Chiefs to cut and run, too. Make no mistake, Rice is a good player. He’s averaged 64.2 receiving yards per game over the course of his three-year career and scored 15 regular-season touchdowns. Yet he’s not especially big (6-foot-1, 204 pounds). Or fast. Or, certainly, routinely available. Kansas City went 6-11 last year with Rice appearing in just eight games. Knee and hamstring injuries limited him to four games in 2024, and Kansas City went 15-2 and reached the Super Bowl ... basically without his services. So what is Rice really bringing to the table? Either he didn’t care enough to risk violating his probation or potentially has an even bigger problem if he couldn’t stay away from marijuana – even long enough to get his legal case dismissed, which would have happened had he had completed the probation. Is this the guy you want to trust on third-and-9 with a season or Lombardi Trophy potentially on the line? The same guy who claimed to be "profoundly sorry" for his actions (and inaction) after his fast and furious episode? Furthermore, incidents – alleged or otherwise – seem to perpetually follow him. Rice was also named in a separate lawsuit by a woman alleging assault over an 18-month period earlier this year. The NFL ultimately determined "there was insufficient evidence to support a finding that he violated the personal conduct policy." Yet Rice is also facing other civil cases, including one stemming from the wrecks and injuries he caused in Texas. An injured, incarcerated and [... truncated ...]
Another member of the Smith-Njigba family is taking aim at the NFL. Just one day after Seattle Seahawks star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba said he felt disrespected by the league for sending him a mislabeled NFL "Oefensive" Player of the Year award trophy , his brother, Canaan, also voiced his displeasure. Canaan, who played 18 games across two seasons with MLB's Pittsburgh Pirates, had plenty to say about the league his brother represents. "The NFL quickly collected a fine for the dunk celebration, then used those same images for promotion," Canaan said in a May 19 post on X . "The Offensive Player of the Year was turned into a comedy segment with Druski, minimizing an award earned through elite performance and hard work." "NFL Honors never acknowledged the poor representation of one of the league’s top individual awards. The 'prestigious' ceremony didn’t even air the pre-recorded acceptance speech. After months to prepare and ship the award, the only offensive player selected received a Defensive Player of the Year trophy. At some point, professionalism, respect, and attention to detail should matter." Jaxon was unable to attend NFL Honors to receive his award in person, since he was preparing for Super Bowl 60 – a game the Seahawks went on to win, 29-13. In addition to receiving the award and winning his first ring, Jaxon also went on to ink a four-year, $168.6 million extension in Seattle . The Druski comments came as the comedian struggled to pronounce Smith-Njigba's last name when announcing the receiver as the winner of the award at the 2026 NFL Honors, an incident for which the comedian has since apologized . While it appeared that the NFL Honors fiasco was behind the star receiver, the drama came into focus again when Jaxon's trophy arrived on May 18. "It's getting disrespectful guys," he said, while holding his trophy up to the camera and referencing that it appeared to say "Defensive" instead of "Offensive." The award also featured a typo, in which "TheYear" was combined into one word, with no space between. It's an error that the league has since apologized for, saying that the misspelling was actually "Oefensive" – a misspelling of "Offensive" – rather than "Defensive." Regardless, a new trophy is in production for the Seahawks star. The NFL might want to proofread that one a couple of times as it tries to make amends with the Smith-Njigba family. Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been ordered to serve 30 days in jail for violating terms of his probation, according to Dallas County (Texas) court records reviewed by USA TODAY Sports. Rice tested positive for THC and was placed into custody, according to the court records filed May 19. Rice is to be held without bond, according to court records, and is eligible for release June 16, 2026. The Chiefs, who did not immediately reply to a request for comment, have voluntary OTAs (May 26-28, June 1-3) as well as mandatory minicamp (June 9-11) during that time. Rice pleaded guilty July 17, 2025, to two third-degree felony charges – collision involving serious bodily injury, and racing on a highway causing bodily injury – stemming from an incident on a Dallas-area highway on March 30, 2024. He was sentenced to 30 days in prison and five years’ probation. The 26-year-old was also suspended for the first six games of the 2025 season under the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Rice never served the jail time and ESPN reported that the Southern Methodist product is serving his original 30-day sentence. Rice also had to pay restitution for the victims’ out-of-pocket medical expenses, which exceeded $115,000. The victims also filed multiple civil lawsuits against Rice, who was driving a 2020 Lamborghini Urus SUV and traveling an estimated 119 mph in the seconds before the crash. I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart," Rice said. Herm Edwards delivered one of the most iconic lines in NFL history when he passionately stated during a 2002 news conference, "You play to win the game." He and Judy Battista – the reporter who asked him the question that prompted the famous spiel, during which Edwards encouraged any players who didn't care about winning to retire – reminisced about the moment during a May 19 appearance on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football." "It was instincts," Edwards explained of his passionate response to Battista's question. "I never knew it would take the avenue that it took." OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) Edwards explained he was blissfully unaware of the virality of his press conference moment until he returned home from work. "As a coach, you go to work, you go back up to the office and you start working," Edwards explained. "And I can just remember going home that night, and I get home at about 12 o'clock at night, and my wife opened the door. She said, 'What did you say?' And I forgot everything I said. I don't remember. And she said, 'It's everywhere!' And I looked at her and said, 'Is it good?' And she said, 'It was good. It's OK!" Edwards also detailed that his speech had occurred during the week, when players were not in attendance at the team facility. He saw them the next morning at a team meeting and recalled getting a positive response from the team. "I looked at the team. I literally looked at all these guys and said, 'Are we good?' They looked at me and said, 'Coach, we're good,'" Edwards said. "'Go to work.' Then we went on a run. Ended up winning the division." Indeed, the Jets finished the 2002 season with a 9-7 record, which was good enough to win the AFC East. They went 7-2 after Edwards' rant and crushed the Indianapolis Colts 41-0 in the wild-card round before falling to the then-Oakland Raiders in the divisional round. Thanks to that, Edwards' one-liner has been permanently entered into the NFL's proverbial lexicon, with it being frequently referenced by coaches and analysts alike. A clip from the presser was also included in a Bud Light commercial while Edwards titled his self-help book after the line., But Edwards also contends there is a key word that is often omitted from his legendary quote. "I tell people all the time, don't forget the jingle. The 'hello.' That's important," Edwards said. "A lot of people say, 'You play to win the game.' I always correct them. Make sure you say hello first." As for Battista, she fondly remembered Edwards' response and shared her thoughts as the iconic moment unfurled before her and the other reporters present for the news conference. "I remember thinking, 'This is the easiest story we're ever going to write as a beat reporter for the New York Jets ,'" she said. "He just laid it on a platter for us." The NFL released its 2026 schedule in full on May 14. Now, football fans everywhere know exactly who and when their favorite teams will play during the upcoming campaign . That said, the most important information revealed during the schedule release might actually be about when each of the NFL's 32 teams isn't playing in 2026. Per usual, each NFL team will get a bye week in 2026. They will begin during Week 5 of the season and run through Week 14 of the campaign. PRINTABLE NFL SCHEDULE: Complete week-by-week list with all 272 games OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) At least two teams will be off for nine of those 10 weeks. The lone exception in that span will be Week 12, when all 32 teams will be in action as part of the NFL's Thanksgiving week action . Week 11 will feature the greatest concentration of bye weeks, with six teams out of action. That will earn it the "Byemageddon" moniker among fantasy football managers. Here's what to know about the NFL's bye week schedule for 2026, including when all 32 teams will be out of action this season. Carolina Panthers Kansas City Chiefs Cincinnati Bengals Detroit Lions Miami Dolphins Minnesota Vikings Buffalo Bills Jacksonville Jaguars Los Angeles Chargers Washington Commanders Houston Texans New Orleans Saints New York Giants San Francisco 49ers Pittsburgh Steelers Tennessee Titans Chicago Bears Denver Broncos Philadelphia Eagles Tampa Bay Buccaneers Atlanta Falcons Cleveland Browns Green Bay Packers Los Angeles Rams New England Patriots Seattle Seahawks Baltimore Ravens Indianapolis Colts Las Vegas Raiders New York Jets Arizona Cardinals Dallas Cowboys This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Here's when every NFL team will have its bye week in 2026
Although the Houston Texans acquired running back David Montgomery in an offseason trade with the Detroit Lions, second-year back Woody Marks should "stay fresh in a complementary role that should involve a lot of opportunities to catch passes out of the backfield," according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Sports. As long as Montgomery stays healthy, Marks won't have an opportunity to take over a three-down role in Houston, but he could still be very valuable for fantasy managers in PPR leagues, and RotoBaller has Marks currently ranked as the No. 45 overall RB in half-PPR setups. The former fourth-rounder out of USC in 2025 was a prolific pass-catcher as a Trojan and during his time at Mississippi State. Marks finished his rookie campaign in the NFL with a team-high 703 rushing yards on 196 carries after taking over the starting gig from veteran Nick Chubb. The 25-year-old added 24 receptions on 36 targets for 208 yards and three scores through the air in 16 regular-season games (eight starts). In college, Marks had at least 47 catches in four of his five seasons
The 2026 NFL schedule has been released, highlighting key matchups including Bills vs. Chiefs. Early projections suggest several intriguing games, though teams like the Broncos, Patriots, and Seahawks could emerge as surprise top performers. Notable player moves include Tytus Howard to the Browns, Trent McDuffie to the Rams, David Montgomery to the Texans, and DJ Moore to the Bills
The Minnesota Vikings signed Kyler Murray in free agency to compete with 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy ahead of the 2026 NFL season. Veteran wide receiver Justin Jefferson is among those excited to see how the competition between the two unfolds. Jefferson was asked during a May 15 appearance on "Good Morning Football" what he wanted to see from Minnesota's quarterback battle in the lead-up to the 2026 NFL season. "Just competition, for real," Jefferson said. "Just to see, who's gonna be that last man standing? Who's gonna be that dog? Who's gonna be that leader to carry us throughout the season? Because that is definitely a missing piece that we're looking for and something that is very important to our team, which is the quarterback spot. "So just seeing that competition, battle – seeing those guys come in every day leading the team and trying to spark, especially the offense, it's definitely something I'm looking forward to. And just going out there and connecting with any quarterback that's throwing the ball, that's the main important thing this training camp." OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) Jefferson had trouble consistently connecting with the Vikings' quarterbacks – a group that was led by McCarthy – in 2025. He totaled a respectable 84 catches for 1,048 yards, but his 61.6 yards per game and two touchdowns were far and away the lowest marks of his career. That's why Jefferson – who thrived working with Kirk Cousins and Sam Darnold across the first five seasons of his career – is hoping either McCarthy or Murray can emerge as a franchise quarterback for the team. "That's definitely something that is… I want that, for sure," Jefferson said, referencing a franchise quarterback. "It's definitely difficult for those types of things to happen. But just like me being with Kirk for those first four years of my career, just building on that connection, building on that relationship, that's something that is unbroken, that's something you just don't find just anywhere. "It definitely will be great to have a quarterback, the same quarterback for these next couple years going down the line, but you already know that's something difficult to do in this league. But for sure, to keep knowing that quarterback for these next couple years and build that relationship and create that spark, that's definitely the plan." Murray only signed with the Vikings to a one-year, veteran minimum contract. If he emerges as the top option for Minnesota, the team will likely need to sign him to a lucrative, long-term extension. Meanwhile, McCarthy is in the third season of his four-year rookie contract, so he will be cost-controlled through the 2027 campaign. The Vikings will also have to decide whether to accept the Michigan product's fifth-year option after the 2026 season. Patrick Mahomes gave Kansas City Chiefs fans yet another reason for optimism about his recovery from a torn ACL and LCL he suffered in December . On May 15, Mahomes posted a video of himself at his annual golf tournament in support of his non-profit, the "15 and the Mahomies Foundation." The video showcased Mahomes hitting a golf ball off a tee with a driver. The 30-year-old quarterback was able to transition his weight cleanly from his right leg to his injured left leg – which was wrapped in a protective sleeve – and make clean contact with the ball. Mahomes' action on the golf course comes five months after he had surgery to repair his injured knee and amid reports that he is ahead of schedule in his recovery . The quarterback has posted videos of himself throwing a football on social media, which have inspired confidence about him being ready to play in Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season. At Chiefs rookie minicamp, Andy Reid expressed optimism about Mahomes participating in the team's OTAs. More recently, the 68-year-old coach told NFL Media's "The Insiders" that the two-time NFL MVP was "doing great right now" and "hasn't missed a day" of his rehab schedule. Even so, Reid wouldn't guarantee Mahomes would be ready for Week 1. He also cautioned against holding the veteran signal-caller to a firm schedule in his recovery. "Everybody's different, right? So let's just take it day-by-day," Reid said of Mahomes during his May 14 appearance on "The Insiders." Still, Chiefs fans will likely view Mahomes' swing as a positive sign about his chances of returning for Kansas City's Week 1 "Monday Night Football" game against the Denver Broncos . The game is set for Sept. 14, almost exactly nine months after the quarterback suffered his initial injury. So, while the most important golf swings of the weekend will likely come from the 2026 PGA Championship – which is playing out at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania – the importance of Mahomes showing off his stroke amid his recovery cannot be understated. The countdown to the 2026 regular season is on now that the NFL schedule is officially released. The Cleveland Browns , New Orleans Saints and Cincinnati Bengals have the three easiest schedules based off the winning percentage of their opponents from last season . While the Chicago Bears , Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals have the toughest road ahead. Divisions might not be able to be won in September and October, but seasons can end prematurely because of those early slates. USA TODAY Sports listed teams who could be in trouble after the 2026 regular season schedule release . Who's on the other end of the spectrum and might benefit from their regular-season schedule? Here are three teams who have favorable paths: OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) The Eagles will begin the regular the season with the 10th easiest strength of schedule based off opponent’s winning percentage from 2025. The Eagles host the Washington Commanders to begin the year and then have two straight road games versus Tennessee Titans and Chicago Bears. It’s conceivable the Eagles fly out to a 3-0 start before they host the Los Angeles Rams in a Week 4 showdown. Of Philadelphia’s first nine games, four are against divisional opponents, three of which are at home. Then the Eagles have an ideal bye in the middle of the season in Week 10. The Eagles do have a tough three-week stretch against the Indianapolis Colts , Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans from Weeks 14-17, but all the games are at home, plus they’ll host Houston on a short week on Thursday night. The Eagles got off to an 8-2 start last year. Their schedule this year gives them a path for another hot start and they’ll have home field advantage for most of their toughest opponents. Remember the Ravens’ 1-5 start last year? The Ravens don’t play a 2025 playoff team until they travel to Buffalo in Week 8. The Ravens have an intriguing road game versus the Indianapolis Colts to start the year and then host the New Orleans Saints in Week 2 before traveling to Rio De Janeiro to take on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3. November might be the Ravens’ most difficult month as they have five games – at Buffalo Bills , vs. Jacksonville Jaguars , vs. Los Angeles Chargers , at Carolina Panthers and at Houston Texans – versus teams that made the playoffs last season. Baltimore does have a late Week 13 bye, but they’ll receive much-needed rest before they close the regular season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and all three AFC North rivals, including the Pittsburgh Steelers twice. If the Ravens handle business before their Week 13 bye, they could separate themselves from the division in December. Can the Lions roar back into the playoffs? Detroit's schedule is favorable: The Lions own the sixth easiest strength of schedule based off their opponent’s winning percentage from last season. Of the Lions’ first five games, four are against teams who finished below .500 in 2025, including a Week 1 home opener versus the New Orleans Saints and a Week 3 home tilt against the New York Jets . After the Lions’ Week 6 bye, they have two straight home contests against the division rival Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings before they travel to Miami to take on the rebuilding Dolphins in Week 9. The Lions have a difficult Week 10 game versus the New England Pa

"Sunday Night Football" typically doesn't disappoint. This season's "Sunday Night Football" schedule should hold that reputation, as it features a plethora of marquee contests. The 2026 “Sunday Night Football” schedule actually isn't all on Sunday, as NBC will broadcast the 2026 NFL kickoff game on a Wednesday night when the Seattle Seahawks lift their Super Bowl 60 banner in a Super Bowl 60 rematch vs. the New England Patriots . Elsewhere on the slate, NFL MVP Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams will travel to a hostile environment in Denver to face a fierce Broncos team in Week 3. There’s even a “Sunday Night Football” game on Thanksgiving night when Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs meet Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills to renew their rivalry. There are plenty of great “Sunday Night Football” matchups this season. USA TODAY Sports breaks down the top five SNF games in 2026: OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) The Rams and Broncos each played in 2025 conference championship games. Both clubs have legitimate Super Bowl aspirations again this season. Reigning MVP Matthew Stafford and the Rams high-powered offense will be put to the test on the road against 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain and a Broncos defense that’s led the NFL in sacks in each of the past two seasons. This interconference battle will be a good early season measuring-stick game for both clubs. Surtain and Riley Moss ’ ability to cover Puka Nacua and Davante Adams are juicy matchups to watch on the outside. Micah Parsons registered three tackles, one sack and 10 pressures in an unsatisfying 40-40 tie versus the Cowboys last season. Can somebody win this time around (please)? The Week 6 battle will be played at Lambeau Field this year. Parsons will be approximately 10 months removed from his season-ending knee injury when he meets his former team. Assuming Parsons is good to go, this isn’t just a revenge game for him: new Cowboys edge rusher Rashan Gary gets to face the Packers after he was shipped out of Green Bay . Both the Packers and Cowboys are expected to have proficient offenses, but defense might be the overwhelming storyline in this Sunday night Week 6 contest. Super Bowl 60 MVP Kenneth Walker III has an opportunity at revenge in Week 7. The Seahawks seemed comfortable with letting Walker walk in free agency after the running back helped the franchise win a Super Bowl title. The Seahawks wouldn’t have lifted a Lombardi Trophy without the Super Bowl MVP. Walker is the first Super Bowl MVP to sign with a new team the following season since safety Dexter Jackson left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the Arizona Cardinals in 2023. Seattle used it first-round on running back Jadarian Price who will likely replace Walker in the Seahawks starting lineup while Zach Charbonnet recovers from a season-ending knee injury. It wouldn’t be an NFL regular season without a Patrick Mahomes vs. Josh Allen bought. The Chiefs and Bills have played 10 times since 2020. The game is technically on Thursday, but it’s a “Sunday Night Football” broadcast on NBC. Mahomes is famously 1-5 versus the Bills in the regular season but he's 4-0 against Allen and Buffalo in the postseason. Could that trend continue in 2026? Bills running back James Cook rushed for 114 yards and tight end Dalto

The 2026 NFL season will kick off on Wednesday, September 9th, with the Seattle Seahawks hosting the New England Patriots. The season opener will be followed by a full slate of Week 1 games concluding on Monday, September 14th, with the Kansas City Chiefs playing the Denver Broncos
Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid continues to provide optimistic updates about quarterback Patrick Mahomes as he continues to recover from a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee . Reid was asked for an update about Mahomes' status during a May 14 appearance on NFL Network's "The Insiders." His response? "He's doing great right now," Reid say of Mahomes. "And that's kinda how you have to go about this. I've said this before. People go, 'Well, he's ahead of schedule,' or, 'Is he ahead of schedule?' And I'm going, 'Who made the schedule?' Everybody's different, right? So, let's just take it day-by-day." OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) Mahomes suffered the injury on Dec. 14, 2025, during the Chiefs' Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers . He had surgery to repair the malady almost immediately in an effort to speed up his recovery and allow him to target a return by Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season. Thus far, Mahomes "hasn't missed a day" of his rehab schedule, according to Reid, and is putting in a great deal of work to ensure he can return to the field as quickly as possible. "Nobody's spending more time than he is rehabbing. He spent seven hours here going through it," Reid said. "He hasn't missed a day and he wants more and all the things that are Patrick Mahomes. But let's see where we're at as we go forward, we get a little bit closer to the game." The game in question – the Chiefs' Week 1 matchup with the Denver Broncos – was revealed to be part of the NFL's "Monday Night Football" schedule for the 2026 NFL season. Reid made it clear the league's decision to slot that matchup into a prime-time slot is not necessarily a definitive indication that Mahomes will be ready to play in Week 1. "He's making progress, and I've said that all along," Reid said. "But you don't know. That's the reality of it. You don't know and you're not gonna put the player in a position where he can't tend to himself out on a football field. So, you've gotta be smart with that, I think." The 68-year-old coach did, however, point out that the schedule could influence Mahomes and Bo Nix – who suffered a broken ankle in the playoffs last year – to try to return to the field as quickly as possible. "Roger Goodell will probably use this as motivation for the two quarterbacks," Reid joked. "Both of them have been banged up a little bit this offseason, so he's doing his best coaching to get them back in here, I think." At the end of the day, Reid's approach is simple. He's putting "a lot of trust" in the Chiefs' medical staff and acknowledged the team's decision-makers would take their time assessing exactly when Mahomes would return to the field. "If it's Pat, he'd go play today," Reid said. "But that's not where we're at. We've got time here, so let's see where we're at." NFL might as well stand for "No Family Life" in 2026. The schedule has been released and it is not kind to anyone trying to make plans from, well, September through February. There will be games played on every day of the week except Tuesday this season and if there is a holiday, you best believe the NFL is on. Night before Thanksgiving ? Check. Thanksgiving ? Check. Black Friday ? Check. Christmas Eve? Check. Christmas ? Check. New Year's Eve? Check. In other words, good luck squeezing in all those activities and not missing a minute of the action. When you factor in schedules during the week with work and school, that leaves the weekends for activities. And those are the days for witching hours on "NFL RedZone" with Scott Hanson. Something has to give at some point, especially when it comes to outdoor activities before October ends and the cold, dark winter sets in. Luckily, we are prepared to help you navigate those scheduling issues for family and friends. Buried in the 2026 NFL schedule are a few weeks where you can safely step away on Sundays for those fall festivals or apple and pumpkin picking activities. After all, it's the least the league could've done after taking over the fall calendar. Here are the best weeks to put down the remote, get up off the couch and spend some time with the people you care about. The couch might miss you, but don't worry – you'll be back in time for " Sunday Night Football ." OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) Week 7 is far and away the best weekend of the 2026 NFL season to participate in all fall outdoor activities. It's a Sunday slate that fits all the criteria you'd want – late October, good teams on a bye week (Bills, Jaguars , Chargers , Commanders ), only three games in the late window and no true marquee game in the early window. Oct. 25 is at the tail end of apple picking season, but it's prime time for picking pumpkins and only a week before spooky season comes to an end with Halloween. Take a look at what Week 7 has to offer NFL fans: Pittsburgh Steelers vs New Orleans Saints (Paris), 9:30 a.m. ET (NFL Network) San Francisco 49ers at Atlanta Falcons , 1 p.m. ET (FOX) Cincinnati Bengals at Baltimore Ravens , 1 p.m. ET (CBS) Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers , 1 p.m. ET (FOX) New York Giants at Houston Texans , 1 p.m. ET (FOX) Indianapolis Colts at Minnesota Vikings , 1 p.m. ET (CBS) Miami Dolphins at New York Jets , 1 p.m. ET (CBS) Cleveland Browns at Tennessee Titans , 1 p.m. ET (CBS) Denver Broncos at Arizona Cardinals , 4:05 p.m. ET (CBS) Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions , 4:25 p.m. ET (FOX) Los Angeles Rams at Las Vegas Raiders , 4:25 p.m. ET (FOX) You'll have to miss the NFL's first game in Paris , but something has to give. Elsewhere on the docket, the Bengals and Ravens have the best game, but those teams have experienced their fair share of injuries issues through the years that could change everything. Other than that, it's a slate that is filled with plenty of clunkers. Jets-Dolphins? Yuck. Browns-Titans? Try again. The crown jewel of the day resides in the "Sunday Night Football" slot when the Seahawks host the Chiefs . At this point, the sun will be down as the "Sunday Scaries" set in. However, that comes long after a job well done and, hopefully, a memorable day with the ones who matter mos

We're now past that most important waypoint on the NFL ’s annual calendar – when we learn how many times and various ways the league can showcase the Dallas Cowboys , the famous/infamous “America’s Team” seemingly half of the country embraces and the other half loathes … because there’s no such thing as middle ground in ‘Merica ’26. But I digress. And the NFL did not disappoint Cowboys -philes on May 14, revealing that Dallas is earmarked for six prime-time games this season – which doesn't even include their yearly Thanksgiving showcase and a high-profile late-afternoon Week 3 game in Rio de Janeiro against the Baltimore Ravens . But let’s put the Cowboys’ national (over?)-exposure aside for a minute. A closer examination of their schedule might just suggest that the country’s most high-profile sports brand – Dallas won five of the first 30 Super Bowls and played on Super Sunday three other times but hasn’t reached the league’s ultimate showcase in the past 30 years – might finally be ready for a breakthrough. Disagree? Let’s do a, ahem, shallow dive into the Cowboys' 2026 schedule and see how many wins we can find for Jerry Jones and Co.: OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) OT Tytus Howard: Traded to Cleveland Browns (previous team: Houston Texans) CB Trent McDuffie: Traded to Los Angeles Rams (previous team: Kansas City Chiefs) RB David Montgomery: Traded to Houston Texans (previous team: Detroit Lions) WR DJ Moore: Traded to Buffalo Bills (previous team: Chicago Bears) John Harbaugh’s first game with a rebooted organization, WR Malik Nabers likely to play limited snaps – best case – and QB Jaxson Dart brazenly leaving the pocket on every third down while facing an entirely reimagined Doomsday D? ▶ Win (1-0) The 2026 home opener at JerryWorld, when QB Dak Prescott torches that Dan Quinn-designed defense he knows so well. Meanwhile, on the other sideline, new Commanders WR Brandon Aiyuk suffers the first of many meltdowns, reminding Washingtonians why the Niners gladly disposed of him in the first place. ▶ Win (2-0) As many sick days as Ravens QB Lamar Jackson uses during the practice week, imagine what a 5,000-mile flight will do to the two-time MVP? OK, on a more serious note, Jackson and his offense might still have the chills in their third week trying to employ new coordinator Declan Doyle’s offense. Meanwhile, Prescott and the offense will be in their third year working with Brian Schottenheimer. Christ the Redeemer deems the Cowboys the victors. ▶ Win (3-0) Admittedly, the tongue is frequently firmly planted in the cheek here. Doesn’t mean we’re not taking this exercise (semi)seriously. And the long trip back from Brazil followed by a short intra-Texas flight to face the league’s best defense from 2025 seems like a good formula for a maiden L. ▶ Loss (3-1) Bucs QB Baker Mayfield may be a native Texan. But playing on the road on a Thursday night is suboptimal in nearly every circumstance, particularly with the added pressure of performing in front of your Lone Star friends. Advantage: Dak. ▶ Win (4-1) After “beating” Micah Parsons ’ Packers 40-40 last season, the Cowboys leverage their mini bye to notch a legit W against their former teammate, whose ACL will likely still be well shy of 100%, and exorcise some demons from their Lambeau Field house of horrors. ▶ Win (5-1) Tempting as it is to project an extended Dallas hot streak, we’re guessing Jalen Hurts will still be a few months shy of making his last stand even as the A.J. Brown-less offense begins to collapse around him. But it's early enough for Jalen Carter and Co. to spit out another win against Big [... truncated ...]
The 2026 NFL season won't officially begin for about four more months, but football fans now have the full, 272-game schedule for the upcoming campaign. Unsurprisingly, the NFL has loaded the first week of the 2026 NFL season with quality matchups. It will all start on Sept. 9, when the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks celebrate their title by hosting the team they beat in Super Bowl 60 , the New England Patriots , to kickstart the season . Then the NFL will play its first-ever regular-season game in Australia. The San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams will bring their divisional rivalry "Down Under" in a game that will kick off at about 10:35 a.m. locally. From there, plenty more quality matchups will litter the schedules. Most notably, the New York Giants will play the Dallas Cowboys in a classic rivalry matchup on "Sunday Night Football," and the week will wrap up with a "Monday Night Football" game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos . Here's a full look at the NFL's Week 1 schedule, along with a preview of what appear to be the first week's best matchups. Fans will get their first glimpse when the 49ers and Rams square off in the league's first-ever regular-season game in Melbourne. Both West Coast squads will face daunting travel schedules to prepare for the game, and it will be interesting to see whether Kyle Shanahan's or Sean McVay's team is better-suited to the unique challenges of playing halfway around the world. The 49ers and Rams are both expected to be Super Bowl contenders in 2026 after making the playoffs last season. San Francisco will hope to stay healthier than it was able to last season, while Los Angeles will be looking for Matthew Stafford to repeat his MVP performance and carry the team on another deep postseason run. The Bills enter the 2026 NFL season hoping that promoting Joe Brady to replace Sean McDermott as the team's head coach can provide the spark needed to reach the Super Bowl for the first time since 1994. Brady will face a tough test out of the gate against a well-coached, DeMeco Ryans defense. Last season, Houston beat Buffalo 23-19 while limiting Josh Allen in one of the quarterback's w

The Dallas Cowboys are in first place. That will remain a true statement for the foreseeable future, at least until the morning of Sunday, Sept. 13. And that is the primary reason for excitement in Week 1. Every team has a chance. Every team is in first place. Every team has a reason to be excited – even the Cowboys . Dallas is coming off another disappointing season, missing the playoffs for a second straight year, thanks in large part to a defense that simply wasn't good enough. The Cowboys spent the year trying to win shootouts, using a top-10 scoring offense to offset the defense that surrendered the most points in the league. That unit will be put to the test right away in Week 1 against a familiar foe that is also expected to be much-improved in 2026. Kickoff is slated for 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 13. It's a road contest at MetLife Stadium to open the season for the Cowboys and marks the 12th all-time matchup between these two rivals in the first week. The Cowboys have been dominant in these contests through the years, owning an 11-1 record against the G-Men in Week 1. The Giants hosted the last opening-week matchup against the Cowboys, a game that famously ended with Dallas winning 40-0 on "Sunday Night Football." This game is expected to be more competitive this time around, with no shortage of storylines or hype surrounding the matchup. John Harbaugh is set to make his head coaching debut for the Giants and it will also mark the start of Jaxson Dart's second season. Expectations are high for Big Blue as the team looks for a return to the postseason after a brutal 4-13 season. On the Dallas side, Dak Prescott gets ready to start his 11th season as a pro. However, the focus will be on the opposite side of the ball, where the Cowboys' new-look defense debuts, with Caleb Downs patrolling the secondary. Players like Quinnen Williams will be coming into the game off a full offseason with Dallas, after midseason trades shook up the roster. The unit will hope to be much-improved from a season ago and they'll have to be if the Cowboys are going to make any noise in 2026.
